I was surprised to see the Penelope Gundam's beam rifle for the poster. Most of the pics I've seen of the unit do not show it using its rifle. Especially in video games like SRW and G Generation, because it uses its arm beam cannons instead.
Xi Gundam is not gonna be in the 1st movie given how the novels play out.

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I
It almost certainly will be, regardless of the novels. If Sunrise didn't care about twisting Victory Gundam out of order to get a Gundam into the first episode, they won't care about when the novels had Xi showing up.

Yeah, I'd be surprised if there isn't some sort of in medias res opening showing the Xi and playing the rest as a 'how we got here' retelling, or some other way of getting it into the first film. Gotta get it in there so they can boost the sale of merch...
Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I
Well... the main poster for the 1st movie also gives a indication too.
Even if the Xi Gundam was shown medias res... it could be used on promotion material... its not.

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I
The one on the website? It's officially identified as a 'teaser visual', not the final poster. Meanwhile the Xi is displayed in the gallery as the image from when the project was first announced right alongside footage from the trailers.
Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I
True. I forgot about the actual movie design version of the Xi Gundam. Probably make a appearence in the movie. Although I'm not expecting a Medias res, but the unit being shown, possibly at the end or in a container rather than being used in battle.

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I
Say, is there any official reason to why in early UC gundam (and MS in general) just keep on getting bigger? Is it to cram in more new technologies and bigger reactors?
Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I
Most MS tend to be around 18 meters tall until the advent of smaller MS in F91 era and beyond where the norm became around 15 meters.
A couple of units tend to be pretty large, mostly due to the large firepower they carry. In case of the 2 Gundams in Hathaway's Flash, I believe its a combination of the heavy firepower as well as the Minovsky craft flight system that was the reason why the Penelope and Xi Gundams were pretty large. Minovsky crafts were mainly used on ships or large mobile armors (some of which transformed into MS mode like the Psycho Gundam and Psycho Gundam Mk II).
Although I don't understand the reason why the Gustav Karl is that large, given that it doesn't have that much firepower, its the usual general MS weapons, but it does have more heavy armor compared to other Federation mass production units at the time. So I guess the other reason why some of these units are so big is also because of the heavy armor. The O also fits in this category, its not that well armed, but its quite heavy and surprisingly mobile given the number of extra thrusters it has to deal with the heavy weight.

I don't think so. The armor is Gundarium that, while an upgrade over the Jegan, it's not that durable and it's mostly used for weight reduction. Indeed the base weight is barely more than that of the Jegan (29t vs 20t) while the max weight is 20t more (60t vs 40t), that suggests more empty space, probably used for fuel.
Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I
The Gustav Karl indeed has heavy/thick armor, that is specifically pointed out in the HGUC model kit manual and in the Gundam Narrative's official profile. I also won't say the base weight is barely more, the Gustav Karl is about 36% heavier even though it is only about 8% taller. As for the max weight difference, it is more of 60t vs 47t, a difference of 28%.

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I
My bad for the 40t instead of the 47t. Still 22 meters is huge for a MS, and you must count that the Gustav not only is taller, but bulkier and equipped with a shield, 9 tons barely cover all that.
Surely not HEAVY armor. Thicker? It doesn't seem so, it gets owned like any other federal MS.
I continue to believe that is a mostly hollow MS to get more operational time.

There's also a theory that lightly armored versions exist (which would explain the original novel design vs the redesign later on). While they have the same basic structure as their heavy counterparts, they have a more slender frame. The only differences are said to be the symmetrical V-shaped antenna, being equipped with a main vernier and beam saber rack on the legs, and the omission of fixed firearms.E08 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 03, 2020 9:56 am The Gustav Karl indeed has heavy/thick armor, that is specifically pointed out in the HGUC model kit manual and in the Gundam Narrative's official profile. Actually the Xi Gundam does appear in the first novel, towards the end.

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I
Sorry if it's too late to add to the thread but why did they change the Mecha designs? Both the Gustav Karl and the Xi Gundam are notably different from the novel illustrations and video game designs. Were they trying to modernize the designs? Or where they being more open to different designs because the illustrations weren't in color?

I'm really hoping this to be true.Deacon Blues wrote: ↑Thu Apr 23, 2020 12:56 am There's also a theory that lightly armored versions exist (which would explain the original novel design vs the redesign later on). It would explain why they are holding back on showing the unit on the official website.
I guess they could modernize the old novel design, and call it the High Mobility Equipment Type or something.
But yeah, I really like the Beam Saber racks on the legs.

It looks like a Gaplant is used by Mafty to infiltrate the ship that Hathaway and Kenneth are on. Saw some Jegans escorting the ship in space as well.

Actually, the hijackers of the Haunzen are

simple criminal / terrorists; they falsely claim to belong to Mafty (and their pumpkin-masked leader pretends to be Mafty himself), but are not part of that anti-EFG organization.

Re: The Official Gundam Hathaway Mecha Thread Mk I
Major update to the Mecha section of the Official Site.
They've added:
* Xi Gundam's flight mode
* Penelope's flight mode
* Odysseus Gundam
* Messer Type-F02 Minelayer
* Messer Type-F Naked (Commander Type)
* Galcezon
* Gustav Karl Type-00
* Kessaria
* Jegan Ground Type-A (Man Hunter)
* Haunzen Flight 356
Really excited to finally have lineart for Odysseus Gundam, I love that thing.
Jegan Ground Type-A (Man Hunter) is a very interesting unit. As a mainline combat unit it is outdated, but it still works fine as device of terror for suppressing the rioting civilian populace. Very much similar to how Gundam 00N had the Anf (Earth Sphere Federation Forces Specification) for the same purpose.
