Toriyama Akira has passed away

RIP, legend.

Whatever you think of Dragon Ball, you can't deny that he left a big mark in pop culture history.

Re: Toriyama Akira has passed away

Surprised there wasn't a uproar about his passing, even on ANN, he was known as the most famous gag manga author of all time. But outside of Japan he's known for DBZ and Super not DB or his video game work Dragon Quest. Also he was quite excited for his work on DB DAIMA and he ushered later manga ka and for battle shonen to be what it is today. But he himself admitted Goku wasn't a good person and he was clearly writing what stuck during the z era of his manga despite it working really well, the gag elements of the boo saga turned people off. Saiyan, Frieza and Cell sagas is what the world will know him for. I think some fans didn't even knew he died, DBZ fans aren't toxic but they know what they want, screaming and fighting. But I'll say this DB is something not all Z fans like because they care more about the action over adventure aspect and the decompressed storytelling. I'll admite everything I like about shonen comes from the DB/DBZ blueprint. But I perfer what his successors, Togashi, Kishimoto, did with the template. Unlike Kurumada who instilled thr bishonen style, Togashi will be known for influencing and changing manga forever
