Do you know that in 1997, Bandai released SD Gundam Wars, a strategy game for Apple's Macintosh and Pippin-the worst-selling console ever? And do you know that this obscure game has got some equally obscure mobile suits?
This is what I managed to glance from this website using Google Translate. Anyone knowing Japanese should probably take a look at it and correct me down bellow.
- GM Tracer: A reconnaisance variant of the GM Custom that looks a bit like the GM Juggler
- Aqua Jegan: A naval-use Jegan with anti-ship missile
- Aqua Javelin: A variant of the Javelin and replacement for the Aqua Jegan. Carries a beam trident
- Panzer Guncannon: A Guncannon successor made in the Second Neo Zeon War. Carries a beam rifle and two 400mm recoiless cannons
- Spirit(?) Guncannon: A Guncannon with two beam cannons and one 400mm bazooka
- V-Cannon: (Probably) a Guncannon made during the Zanscare War parallel to the V Gundam. Carries a beam axe, beam shield and two shoulder-mounted railguns that could also be launched like INCOMs
- Victory 3 Gundam: 'nuff said. The strongest mobile suit in the game
- Heavy Guntank: A Guntank with so many modifications that it become something else. Has beam cannons, 300mm cannons, and an anchor for melee combat
- V-Tank: (Probably) a Guntank made during the Zanscare War parallel to the V Gundam. Has the anchor, 40mm cannons and missile pod
- Spirit Tank: A Guntank with rubber tires (Someone should really do a proper translate of this section. Google Translate said that the Spirit Tank was "a Gundam head mated to a Zanscare tire?)
- Spirit Core Fighter: A successor to the Core Fighter
- Search Gundam: A reconnaisance Gundam with the head of the Zeta Gundam
- Gale Gundam: Underwater-use Gundam
- Spirit Gundam: A Nu Gundam-lookalike with hyper beam saber and INCOMs not unlike the Mass Production Nu
- Strong Gundam: AKA Matryoshka Gundam. A F91-like Gundam "wearing" a Psycho Gundam-like similar to the Sinanju and Neo Zeong. It has plasma leader, diffused beam cannons and beam claws
- King Gundam: A giant Gundam
- Duel Tray-class: Successor to the Big Tray-class land battleship
- Revil-class: Successor to the Duel Tray-class, not to be mistaken with the Dogoose Gier-class General Revil
- Beluga-class submarine
- Arowana-class: Successor of the Beluga-class
- Serpent-class: Successor of the Arowana-class
- Geara Doga Force Reconnaisance Type: A reconnaisance Geara Doga that could also fight, unlike other reconnaisance aircrafts and mobile suits in the game
- Berga Sea: A naval-use variant of the Berga
- Gurgan: Successor to the Dopp fighter. Has missiles and a mega particle cannon
- Gryphon S: Successor to the Gurgan. Has missiles and two mega particle cannons
- Gargoyle: A space fighter that weirdly has eight missiles, two beam rifles, and a beam claw(?)
- Gallon: Another weird space fighting with sub-arms to use its beam saber
- Gwalior: A space-use Gaw
- Degwin: A space assault carrier
- Dark Angler: Successor of the Mad Angler-class submarine

Re: The obscure mobile suits of an equally obscure game: SD Gundam Wars
Is there any lineart of these designs anywhere? They sound really cool, if a bit over the top (but that's to be expected in side stories.
Its always nice to see more focus on some lesser used units (we see plenty of variants of the Zaku II for instance, less so for the Jeagan , Geara Doga and most Zanscare units, In fact have Jeagans even been depicted on Earth?).

I've seen the tiny SD sprites of some of these machines on Japanese sites, but I've never seen the linearts. And the chance of this game having an artbook is slim to none.Mafty wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 11:06 am Is there any lineart of these designs anywhere? If you want pictures:
https://gbwn.main.jp/Unit_SDGW.htm
The links are different category of units.
Not lineart but coloured SD pictures as well as the in game sprites.
Also, this is also released in Windows in 1998.
BTW, the pictures are just included in the CD without encoding and easy to get.(except for the dump data from the last category that the site creator pulled from changing the address of the units in the save data, which you get Ball, Ball custom, Ball(Under water type, which is fun the the actual appearance of this unit doesn't come until MS Igloo manga), Ball MA type and Zaku(but with beam weapons)

Not that I can find... the game has a few players guide-type books as was common at the time, but those all seem to use pictures of the game's super-deformed sprites.
The Macross Mecha Manual
Yes, we're working on updates...

Thanks anyway, Even as sprites the designs do look interesting.

Thanks for the link! Those are some nice quality sprites. I am shocked to see that the Federation adopted the giant wheel design from Zanscare with the Spirit GuntankMythSearcher wrote: ↑Sun Nov 06, 2022 10:43 pm If you want pictures:

The strong Gundam resembles the large mobile armor from Kondo's Revival of Zeon manga, unfortunately I don't see it's counterpart with The O II "Hauer". The King Gundam looks like something from G Gundam.

Well, since this is after V Gundam, G Gundam is already on production and that is likely why they probably seen some of the designs from G.Underrated GM Custom wrote: ↑Thu Nov 10, 2022 4:18 am Thanks for the link!
