The Black Knights and Europia United?

So which side could be argued to have the better Knightmare Frames? Obviously the Black Knights had Lelouch and numerous talented pilots, but the Tech that the E.U has seems rather more advanced, particularly as Akito the Exiled is set between the two seasons. So is one more advanced than the other? Or do they utilize the technology differently?

So, it's a bit of a difficult situation.

Official material for Code Geass: Akito the Exiled indicates that the Euro Universe government actually did a fairly poor job of developing its own Knightmare Frames. The Panzer Hummel is noted to be a particularly poor performer to the point of being disparagingly referred to as a Knightmare Frame imitation and the Gardemere is of laughably poor quality. The only noted exception is the Alexander series used by the Special Forces, which was noted to be an excellent if unconventional design that was technologically a 5th Generation Knightmare Frame like the Britannian Gloucester or Sutherland. However, it's noted that it needed the Brain Raid System to draw out its full potential, which gave it mobility performance rivaling that of 7th Generation machines like Britannia's Gareth or the Black Knights Gekka. However, it was still outclassed in terms of its other systems and basic armament and lacked the powerful weapon options that 7th Gen units fielded by other powers had.

Overall, the Black Knights had a definite technological and performance edge over the EU forces thanks mainly to the poor quality of most of the EU machines that compare unfavorably even to the Glasgow and the Black Knights conversion of same designated Burai. The Alexanders would give Toudou's Gekkas a run for their money, but since they are few and far between the overall advantage would belong to the Black Knights at the time Akito the Exiled is set thanks to their secondhand Britannian technology.
