Char lets Revil go for some political theater. Revil then makes a speech calling Zeon weak and resource dependent, giving the Federation pretense to continue fighting, and M'Quve pretense to launch the invasion of Earth.
Yeah, Revil's famous "Zeon is exhuasted" speech was a nice touch in this adaptation... and that it came about because of Char really underscores his role as the orchestrator of Zeon's downfall in his quest for retribution against the Zabis.
When all was said and done, Revil wasn't wrong. The Principality of Zeon was exhausted, resource-poor, and its leader was counting on the war being a short affair that was enough to convince the Federation to leave them alone and give them autonomy in exchange for a cease-fire. Zeon didn't have the resources or the manpower to sustain a longer war, and Degwin was stupid enough to let Revil know that in person.

Garma Zabi shows off his Hollywood looks in Los Angeles, like the vain pretty boy he apparently is.
Well, yeah... that was Just As Planned, as far as Degwin and Dozle were concerned.
Garma desperately wanted to live up to the expectations he felt everyone had of him as the youngest son of Zeon's first family. He didn't want to be a spoiled little prince who only got his position through his family's influence, he wanted an opportunity to earn a reputation on his own. He felt insecure given that his siblings were already accomplished leaders of Zeon's government, like Admiral Dozle, Prime Minister Gihren, spymaster Kycilia, etc. Degwin desperateny wanted to keep his youngest, most innocent child safe. Dozle struck the compromise between the desires of the two, putting the young and impressionable Garma in the safest possible command he could. First, in the ground forces Zeon sent in to pacify the already beaten Side 5, and then to a garrison command well behind the front lines on Earth. It was meant to make Garma think he was taking risks and leading troops, when in reality he'd been send to the safest places possible outside of Zeon's heartland.

Also,
Side 5 is still intact! I mean, what the ZOINKS is up with that?! Is this continuity just completely ignoring the destruction that the Feddy and Zeek fleets caused at Side 5, creating the infamous Shoal Zone? Also, Sayla transfers to Side 7.
There's plenty more war for the remaining colonies in Side 5 to get destroyed in.

We get to meet the Gundam's original pilot, Kent, and he greets Amuro in a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. Also, it's still just weird hearing Amuro not voiced by Brad Swaile. And I kinda miss Kai's high-pitched sarcastic tone of the original too. Were they unable to find any of the original English VAs for this project?
English VAs are a relatively sparse commodity, heavily utilized yet not paid particularly well.
Distributors tend to pick mainly from a stable of VAs they commonly work with, rather than holding wide auditions for any given show. It's a real fly-by-night affair.
