Re: Super Robot Wars T

I wonder how they managed to clear the copyright problem of MKR.
Some of the terms are borrowed from race cars, and thus are IP of the relative companies, paying loyalty fee to all of them aren't pratical and thus it has long been speculated to be almost impossible to appear in SRW.

The Mashin Rayearth was originally named Lexus in the draft(and the OVA) for example. The term Lexus still existed as one of Zagard's spells.

You also get the Mitsubishi FTO, Honda NSX...

The anime itself was released back in a time with less restrictive IP laws (SRW4 which released in the same period had S Gundam, which also had copyright issues that was not settled)

Well, consider that Sunrise has no trouble when they make referrence to Yamaha SR, Suzuki Intruder, Kawasaki Eliminator, and Honda Shadow Phantom in GBF-T, surely their lawyers have find the way.

Probably some kind of written approval from the respective companies.
It surely took time for all of them to come to their senses that instead of getting a loyalty fee (which would not be practical), the promotion capability has more potential.

Re: Super Robot Wars T

The mobile suits from Sentinel are not under copyright problems, its the characters and the story because it was published in a magazine that wasn't owned by Bandai. Bandai has no problem putting Sentinel units in video games and model kits.

Characters however are a different matter. Gundam Sentinel was featured in SD Gundam G Generation F on PS1, both characters and story were in the game. However, the copywright problems seemed to happen afterwards. Since then, Bandai has been reusing the exact same assets for the voice acting and characters from the PS1 game and not the story in future video games. Its the reason why EX S Gundam is in the Gundam versus games since Full Boost but doesn't have a pilot.

Re: Super Robot Wars T

How do you think Char would act like in T, with the knowledge that humanity could not leave Earth not just because of themselves but also for external factors. Would he redirect Neo Zeon's resources toward the extermination of these factors?

Also, when will we see Fafner Exodus in SRW?

Sentinel's problem came from everything. The MS has least problem for Bandai because they at least think the profit is more than the fee they need to pay.
The mother company of Model Graphix still has the IP for Sentinel units, and even Bandai has to pay them every time they make models and games. Speculation from GK modelling fans is that the SD versions are solely owned by Bandai, since it is easier to obtain one day licenses for SD versions than the normal versions, but even the BB Senshi models of Sentinel was only remade in 1999(originally printed in 1989, which paralleled Sentinel's release matching the agreement)
The Sentinel problem is a good example for IP management, Bandai and Model Graphix did not sign enough agreements before the project came out, and Bandai half abandoned the project halfway into it but did not cease the cooperation project. Thus Model Graphix wasn't "hired" to do the job, they still own what they created (but since Gundam's IP was managed by Sotsu, they also cannot use them without paying a fee to Sotsu, while Bandai has to pay both Sotsu and Model Graphix for the Sentinel units) Bandai didn't realize until too late that a Gundam novel can gather enough fans and supporters.(Including some famous animators like Anno Hideaki who were angered by Bandai's passive stance which led to rumours of Sentinel being fake and made a special mention in Newtype magazine to claim Sentinel's official status)
SRW4 S only served as a hidden unit in the data, Banpresto didn't even dared to put it in the official walkthrough. Bandai's G-Gen series was already pretty much after the whole thing was over, SDGGGF came out in 2000, which is when Bandai's compiled pretty much the current canon(between 1998~1999, for 20th anniversary of Gundam and 10 years after Sentinel was released) and acknowledged Sentinel officially. You can trace back the MG and HG Sentinel units starting to release in 2001 as well.
The problem is that Bandai's acknowledgement of canonity has nothing to do with the IP. If did make Model Graphix more willing to release the license, but Bandai still needed to pay, thus after the G20 wave, Bandai is still pretty reluctant to use a lot of Sentinel units/story/characters if they can make the same amount with their own units.

Dai Nihon Kaiga owns Model Graphix, right? What does anyone here know about the company? I know that they also makes coffee table books about weapon hardwares, but nothing other than that.

Just a pretty typical Japanese company that tries to do everything for everyone?

Second PV in subbed form is out. and...we're still going with Burning Gundam. and lost of people thought that The G Gundam Names would be unaltered.
GGG's dividing driver attack is nearly God Mars Level of animations. that is to sat, is doesn't have much.
the OG mech looks like a combination of Nonubaga the Fool's titular mech and the VF-25.
