Godzilla 2014

I don't think there's a thread on this.
Anyway a few days ago, Legendary Pictures released a trailer for the new Godzilla movie, coming out in May 16, 2014.

Here's the trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjKO10hKtYw

You can also discuss anything Godzilla related here.

Re: Godzilla 2014

Just watched it .Looks awesome. I got a letter from the president of Legendary Pictures in reference to a Godzilla display I did in my local library about 2 years ago and he promised they would make a movie that all Big G fans would not only approve of but enjoy. Looks like Legendary Pictures could be keeping that promise.

Hey, it's David Strathairn. I guess this is what he's been up to since they cancelled that awesome show he was in.
Well, this actually looks pretty kickass. I may end up checking that out when it's out.

Trailer looks good, nice to see Godzilla returning to the big screen. Sure no matter how good it is, it'll make us all forgot that awful Godzilla movie from the 90's.

Like Destiny there are ALOT of behind the scenes drama bull shit that lead to the film being a piece of crap.

When Tristar got the license in 1992 for rights to Godzilla from Toho to produce a trilogy of American Godzilla films, with the promise of "remaining true to the original series—cautioning against nuclear weapons and runaway technology" with very little oversight. They had a script where Godzilla faced another monster but the changed his origins to a bioweapon designed by Atlantis to fight alien invaders (Ironically that concept would be used by Godzilla’s rival for the 90s Gamera Trilogy)

The original director and team left the project after disagreements over budget and Roland Emmerich and his team were brought on under the condition they would be able to handle the film "their way" throwing out the original script.

All the principle photography and production were done in less than a year (May 1997 to the film’s release in 1998). Tristar went nuts on marketing because they thought they had a guaranteed success based solely on the name recognition.

In the end because CGI dinosaurs were the rage because of Jurassic Park Emmerich used the movie as an opportunity to do his version of Jurassic Park with a bigger T-Rex (seriously watch the Maddison Squard Garden part again its almost shot for shot the Raptor chase from the original Jurassic Park). Emmerich even admitted that he didn’t know or care about the Godzilla franchise he just wanted to make a disaster movie and use big monsters as the premise. Tristar let the license go in terms of productions, they still were the American distributer for the home video releases of the classic Toho Godzilla films. Toho returned to making Godzilla Movies with Godzilla 2000 and the movies to follow.

The new film is being done by Gareth Edwards who is a Godzilla fan and has the team from Pacific Rim backing him and Toho is more hands on with this film than they were with 1998, and everything we’re seeing is looking good.

Nah, I don't follow this.
I just waiting for the movie to come out.

Question to everyone: Are you going to see the film with someone else or just go alone?

I'm going with a friend who knows very little about the Big G.

Re: Godzilla 2014

Well, that was an interesting premiere in a packed theater complete with cheers and rounds of applause when the movie wrapped up. All in all it was an awesome movie and I really hope they make a sequel. I was content they actually got the Japanese correct in this movie compared to Pacific Rim.

There were some minor points that really didn't sit well with me, but they didn't detract from the story.
