Specifically the part I don't like is that there are other girls still after Kirito and him hooking up with Asuna early means the others will have nothing but heartbreak to look forward to.

When there aren't so many rivals I'm totally for the main couple hooking up sooner than later.

Ow, my mistake then. Yeah.. I agree on that part. There's zero chance it'll happen so it bother me quite a bit. In fact any new female character is almost certain will follow a tragic love scenario. Even Sion isn't an exception with her hinted or plainly obvious falling for the hero. This story needs another male character, capable of romance with the girls, otherwise it's like Kirito lovers club, minus Agil and Klein.

In terms of closure it's actually a pretty good ending. As a whole the series was pretty good. Maybe not the flawless masterpiece people apparently thought it was going to be, but still good entertainment.
