Leandro swooped around to reach the Kirov's dorsal side just in time to witness Grace's parting shots at the Dias duo. Leandro's figured he could put the powerful ranged support features of his Hiding Hizack to use. He thundered off one last shot at the retreating rebels.

"Hey lady," he said, "These guys are gone. Let's help out Commander Stukov kill the other guys."

-

Stukov's baking maneuver was opposite of his previous one: "down" and to the right. Wes' bazooka shell clanged off the side of the Marasai's head, having hit at too oblique an angle to detonate. Stukov instantly retaliated with a double-tap from his beam rifle, aimed slightly to Wes' side to box him in for Nick.

Ian's support fire arrived an eyeblink later. The two-shot from the former Zeon war hero raked across what remained of the shoulder shield, deflecting only slightly as the coating seared away. Go away, other target your turn to try and kill me is later first we'll kill the other. So Stukov ignored Ian for now.

- Gamma Team -

Nick used the momentum from his missed saber attack to bank easily to the right - just out of the way of Wes' beams - without losing much of his forward velocity. This had the side effect, Nick mentally noted with a smirk, of allowing Wes' support fire to whiz by without scoring a hit. Throwing an entire bazooka was a nice touch.

With his suit's "body", as it were, contorted such that the right arm was squared off straight forward and the left arm at a nearly thirty-degree at the elbow straight ahead at the enemy, Nick continued advancing at Wes while popping off a duo of beams at the AEUG machine's upper body before continuing with another thrust, after having turned his Marasai's hand at the wrist to facilitate the motion. The attack went out just half a heartbeat after Stukov fired at Wes.

Ryo wanted to throttle himself over how sloppily he was fighting, a trend he'd been struggling to reverse. Sven, meanwhile, was in a bad way and had to get out of there ASAP.

The pink guy fired wildly at first, his shots missing, but the next series of beams had a modicum more control to them. Ryo, however, in spite of his retreat, was still facing his relentless foe. He could see the beams coming a spun accordingly to keep alive. Arcing his path so he'd meet with Sven without drawing too much attention to the other pilot, Ryo fired thrice at Pan, then grit his teeth at the realization that his rifle's charge was running low.

-

Having fired at Ashlyn, Wolf instantly assesses his team's situation. Having done so, he swerves around without waiting to see what would become of his shot at the blue Dias. He swiftly positioned himself roughly between and "above" the line that Sven and Ryo formed, then fired down at Slim Jim's Dias just as Sven untangled himself from it.

Sam didn't miss a beat as Gilliarme soaked up the Nemo's shotswhat were his exact words?; she vaulted past the Lieutenant's momentarily stalled mobile suit and readied for a follow-uphe was a liar anyway he lied to me, but the lone Nemo was already scrambling awayand I believed him.

Perfect, actually. No need to waste these brand new mobile suits on some pissant Nemosmen like him thrive on the kind of girl I was back then. Never pausing, Sam swept her beam rifle up to find Michiko's Rick Dias speeding off to help her teammates. Immediately the Barzam barked three stern commands for Michiko to die, die, die.

Even still I believed for a second
for a lifetime

-

I'll elaborate on the specifics in an upcoming Chuikov Team RP segment, but Shin had quickly rendered Jonas a nonissue without sustaining damage to his own unit. On his approach, Shin knew Gilliarme had taken some harsh hits, even though the damage wasn't visibly apparent from his angle of approach. The Lieutenant had taken the shots deliberately, he knew. He'd had good reasons.

Pressure. Keep the pressure on them, the same pressure that had blocked Shin's spirits ever since donning the black and red uniform. Let them feel it, and Shin and his team would never feel it again.

Swooping in under Gilliarme and about to catch up to Sam, Shin snaked his path after Sam's, to overtake her and take the lead. Sam and Gill. Gill and Sam. Lieutenant, Ensign, don't worry about me or you when I'm around. And two yellow lances jumped from Shin and toward Michiko.

- Herakles Team -

Cara, due to positioning, couldn't see what Constantine was doing. From her vantage point, it appeared she and Alex were the only ones fighting Sophie. With Alex unsuccessfully tracking the enemy with his long stream of machine gun rounds, the oncoming Nemo was unstoppable in Cara's mind. The rational part told her that was silly, but the rational part wasn't running the show just then.

With Alex effectively repulsed from having depleted his ammo, and with Constantine out of her mind for now, Cara figured she was now the sole target of this AEUG pilot's wrath. In training and simulators, that never seemed so bad. Why did the possibility suddenly feel so daunting? Don't be silly, Cara. It was easy in training why should the real thing be any different?

Cara was a petite girl, so her snarl wasn't exactly intimidating. It accompanied her trigger-pull anyhow. She fired five rounds in quick succession while backing away from Sophie as best she could. An indicator on her right whined about her machine gun running low on lead.

-Curren-

That single bazooka round was Wes' last, leaving him with an empty launcher to carry around. Curren would love to use the thing as a clubbing weapon if it wasn't so easy to break. Nonetheless, he found himself tossing his bazooka away and rolling out of Stukov and Nick's joint attacks.

With the beams flailing by and hitting the abandoned weapon, Wes quickly shot back at both Titans with his beam pistol, 3 shots to each. He also pulled out his beam saber, prepared for any random charge from either Marasai.

- Outside Side 2 -

- Sumitani & Sophie -

While Ramon “Hard AE” Sumitani certainly was a strange character and seemed to be easily distracted, he was anything but slow-witted. And once an enemy had pulled a clever trick on him in combat, he was rarely caught off his guard a second time. For that reason, he had stopped babbling and gyrating long enough to pay close attention to how Roberts recovered from his attack. After a brief moment of fiddling with equipment Kyle made as if to charge at him like he was engaging close combat, but Ramon noted his heat hawk was not drawn - and he realized why as soon as Roberts prepared to throw his shield. Hard AE remembered that this Titan had fired through it not too long ago, and his initial reaction when Kyle followed through as expected with a chucked shield was to get perpendicular to the Hizack’s line of fire.

He chuckled to himself mentally (for once) as he could see the shots would pass overhead, but before he could open his mouth to pick up his chatter where he had left off, Roberts’ shield exploded thanks to the rifle attached to it. His Nemo’s cockpit was filled with warnings and protests from the computer as it was buffeted by the shrapnel cloud, and Sumitani squinted through the fading explosion and the red warning lights in time to see Kyle wasn’t finished trying to kill him. “Say, say, say, say!” Ramon protested as he twisted his Nemo to the left. Kyle’s second shot burned across the outer part of the right thigh below the skirt armor. “Annoying, hooo~~!” he yelled as he attempted to get close enough for a swing with his beam saber.

Sophie, meanwhile, was saved not because she had a veteran pilot’s quick combat sense, but because she saw an enemy she could take advantage of and had suddenly altered her flight path. While she was closing in on Cara, she had seen and paid enough attention to Alex Lepak to notice his machinegun suddenly fall silent. That meant he’d have to waste a moment either loading a new ammo drum or switching weapons, and she didn’t want to waste getting a crack at one of the goons that was keeping her away from the rattled Cara - besides, seeing one of her wingmen go down would shake her up even more, right? “Too bad for you! Hope you weren’t cute,” Sophie cooed in false regret as she took aim at Lepak’s Hizack and fired three shots.

Fortunately for Alex, only the first was aimed anywhere near him as Pendragon’s missiles reached an area close enough behind Miss Coggs’ Nemo to proximity detonate. Her second and third beams went wildly off into space as her Nemo ’stumbled’ and pitched forward until it was upside down relative to its last position. Sophie yelped in surprise not only at the sudden movement and battery her Nemo took, but at the staccato pings of several 120mm rounds hitting her rear armor - Cara’s retreating shots had struck home. By the time she recovered from the tumble her momentum had taken her all the way past Alex, and she twisted her suit up into a standing position. After a moment of searching, she spotted her enemies and figured out where she had ended up. “Jeez, I wasn’t serious…” she grumbled, seriously considering looking for Ramon to retreat. She thought better of it after a moment, and began to circle around to her left to keep Constantine, Alex and Cara in front of her.

- Mello & Thibaut -

Lt. Mello’s eyes narrowed as he roared in at Kamek’s machine. He was really starting to feel the increased strain that mounting fatigue was putting on his body as he forced his Nemo to turn and put forward what was left of its shield as he reached for his own melee weapon. “Damn you! Go home, earthnoid!” the incensed Jovian growled as his arm extended and the bright green beam leapt to life. It was tough to be as quick-witted as he usually was in such close quarters. In order to avoid being smashed against Picard’s spike shield, Mello fired his verniers and shifted over far enough to orient himself for a stabbing swipe. Kamek could either break off the spike charge or get intimately acquainted with Mello’s beam saber.

Desperately trying to stay close enough to Mello in the interest of his own personal safety, Thibaut was still having plenty problems of his own. He was so focused on avoiding incoming fire that he didn’t even have the briefest of moments to celebrate his minor hit on DeRossi. Aaron Faraday continued to press his attack, giving Thibaut and his overtaxed computer yet another thing to worry about. “Come on, Lt. Mello!” Thibaut yelled again for help. In the upper part of his damaged monitors he noticed the flash and flame of missiles being launched, and realized he had yet another Titan vying to kill him off. “No!” he grunted, accelerating into Faraday’s volley to get away from the missiles that were streaking in.

One of Aaron’s rounds hit something important in the Nemo’s right shoulder, freezing the limb in place. The first of Elijah’s missiles was too far from the AEUG suit to trigger at the right time, and it exploded out in an open patch of space. The second, however, was close enough to go off behind Thibaut and hit the Nemo with the edge of its destructive blast radius. Thibaut’s monitors went pitch black, and after a terrifying amount of time (really only a little more than a full second) backups finally began to flicker to life. If Thibaut was on the verge of losing her nerve before, then this was full-blown panic. “Oh God… No, no, no!!” he pleaded as he watched his mobile suit’s speed rapidly fall until he was traveling at nearly half of his former acceleration.

Forgetting the enemies surrounding him for a moment, he gulped and nervously looked at one of the damage displays that was still working. “Ohhh no,” he groaned when he saw his Nemo’s backpack was severely damaged. “Sir, I’m retreating! I can’t stay out here much longer… Please come back to the ship with me!” he said, hoping Mello could hear him at their current distance.

- The Hamburg -
- Bridge -

Loweno had been splitting his time between watching the battle going on around the Chuikov, managing the fight from his own ship, and running damage control efforts. After shifting the Hamburg’s fire from one of the enemy Salamis Kais back to their Alexandria yet again, the captain leaned back in his seat and rubbed his temples. Unfortunately, closing his eyes did nothing to drown out the noise on the bridge. "Captain," Adam Trask called out, "we have three bogeys incoming. Minovsky interference is too high too make out anything other than direction… Orders, sir?". André’s eyes shot open to scan the forward bridge windows for a new threat. At the edge of his own visual range he could make out a loosely grouped trio of thruster flares.

“Wait a minute… three?” he muttered to himself as he glanced over at the screen displaying the crew in the hangar slowly removing debris and struggling to move Ens. Kai’s totaled Nemo. He stood in his chair’s footrests and gestured to the comm station, “Try to raise Ltjg. Emington,”. “That had better be them, or they’re in for a world of hurt,” he humphed, some of his energetic bravado returning. The comm tech responded in the affirmative and began to fiddle with his instruments in an attempt to get a solid connection to the Hamburg Team. Within a few seconds, the radio man jumped back in surprise and pulled his headphones off as Emington’s latest request for assistance blasted out of his speakers - “…burg, we're inbound to your **kzhhht**or rearm. Please acknowledge… MS Team to Hamburg, we're inbound to your position. Lost contact with Ensign Kai, please acknowledge."

The captain leaned over the radio man’s shoulder and snatched up his headset. “Emington! Be careful on your approach - the hangar is all fouled up. Ens. Kai…,” Loweno began to explain, pausing briefly with a sigh, “Ens. Kai died from his injuries after he crashed into the ship. I’m sorry, JG. We’re down a man,”. He looked at the video feed to the hangar again and shook his head, “Emington, you’re going to have to land on the hull. I know it won’t exactly be the break you’re looking for, but we can get you fuel and weapons. If any of you are injured we can extract you and bring you inside. Until we get things sorted out here, we’re doing this landing ‘79 style,”.

- The Chuikov -
- Bridge -

“Drive them further away from us! I don’t care what the spotters are whining about!” Dombrowski shouted, punching the front viewport as he watched the sprawling dogfight that swirled around his ship. He cursed under his breath and drew his throbbing hand back from the window while his crew struggled to stay ahead of the dangers surrounding the Chuikov. “Captain! The fleet is ready to turn!” the helmsman cried out, relaying a newer message from the Dervish. Capt. Dombrowski gritted his teeth but maintained his outward appearance of control. After a moment of pondering their options, he grunted to the comm tech, “Tell Carl we’re a little busy, but we’ll try to keep up,”.

In the long run, the fleet itself was more important than any one ship. If the Chuikov could attract enough attention to let everyone slip away, then Dombrowski would gladly do his duty for the 4th. Of course, he didn’t ever go into a mission intending to die, and if there was any chance of escape at this point he would gladly take it. It wasn’t cowardice - far from it, actually. Nathan Dombrowski just didn’t want to die in a backwater debris field like Hatte. “Hell, it doesn’t even count as Hatte,” he grumbled, remembering they had never technically entered the side.

- MacAlpin -

Despite the immediate danger he found himself in for Michiko’s sake, Jim smiled as he pressed back as hard as he dared against Sven Haksson’s blade. He had never really been this uncomfortably close to an enemy’s beam saber before, and thoughts flashed through his mind of the last moments of scores of brave young Principality pilots that were cut down by The White Devil. Maybe this light was the last thing they saw, too, although it would have been a different hue. An unfamiliar voice crackled into his ears, startling him and making his grip tighten. "So, you're 'Slim Jim', right? James MacAlpin?" it said. Vulcan rounds streamed in and annoyed the man he was dueling. “How does the enemy know my name?” he wondered, thoroughly confused and not sure if he should answer.

“Heck, everyone else around here gets to have monologues and long conversations mid-battle. Why not me?” he muttered under his breath. Before he could reply properly to Julian, he heard another tinny voice - this time through skin talk - that was clearly different from the first. “Sir, Sven here I am moderately damaged and running low on fuel, requesting permission to fall back,” it said, making it clear that his saber wielding foe was not the one who hailed him. “Sven, eh?” MacAlpin said aloud, filing that bit of information away. It seemed knowing someone in Taskforce Echo could sometimes prove useful in the long run. And then suddenly Sven forced his way past Jim, throwing in a move that was an attempt to disarm him… literally.

Jim decided he could catch up and finish him off after talking to whoever it was that got his attention, and backed off. Sven sped away and MacAlpin kept his Rick Dias’ hand. "So, you're 'Slim Jim', right? James MacAlpin?" the first voice continued, casually enough that it actually set Jim on edge. “What is he so calm about out here?” he wondered, but stayed silent as he noticed a Nemo circling closer to his suit. "Name's Julian Meighan, from the Chuikov. You seem like a nice guy overall --- especially for a former Zeon. I don't see why people seem to dislike you so much like they say they do,” he said, revealing his name. Jim was still a little confused, and now a little annoyed.

“So, Julian. You seem to know a little about me. I guess you figured this was a good time to strike up a conversation,” MacAlpin answered, rolling his eyes. He watched Sven get further away and sighed. “And to the second part: yeah,” he continued, although even he wasn’t sure if he was agreeing to all of it or just the part about not being liked much. These days he wasn’t sure who to try the whole Zeon charade out on… well, other than young attractive women. He turned his Rick Dias towards the Nemo and cut to the chase, “What is it you want, Julian? My team is scattered to hell and we’re practically standing still in the middle of a gigantic clusterf*ck,”.

As if to illustrate his point, Wolf Ritter’s gigantic beam attack rushed between the Dias and Nemo, lighting up Jim’s cockpit again. “I can’t catch a break!” Jim complained, boosting away from Julian to make them less of an easy target. Up behind Wolf he could just make out Fritz’ blue mobile suit. “So the boss man is on his way back… Can’t pass up that kind of help,” MacAlpin clucked as he decided to stand and fight Ritter.

- Michiko -

While Michiko had started looking for Fritz in a near-panic, Sven’s attempt on her life had sobered her up and calmed her considerably. The route she took to get to Fritz left her a relatively clear path, and because of that she wasn’t concentrating on getting through anyone, which let her notice the incoming attacks from her rear that much sooner. Flashing red indicators demanded her attention, and she spun upside down and then violently ‘up’ to hopefully avoid whatever was trying to make her dead. She twisted in her seat and looked back to see two strange blue mobile suits giving chase. “What the heck…?” she complained as some of that fear resurfaced. Samantha and Shin’s attacks streamed below her feet closely enough that she could swear she felt their heat in the bottom of the cockpit.

She thought she surely had to be closer to Fritz, and the idea of fighting two new Titan MS models on her own was not pleasant. Who knew what they were capable of? “Fritz! Lieutenant Commander!” she called out, hoping some AEUG pilot could hear. She switched over to a beam pistol and hesitated as she decided which Barzam to return fire at. The barrel of the pistol wavered between the two before stopping on Samantha. “Give me a break!” she barked (well, yipped, really), firing three of her own beam shots back at Sam.

- The Dervish -
- Hangar -

"Hi doctor, how is the battle progressing? I've been helping repair a gun port and an engine mount, so I haven't had a chance to look at a monitor,” Rem called out, making the doctor look up from his scribbled notes, "Looks like nobody's had to come back in yet, how are the suits performing?". Merkwürdigliebe smiled and nodded excitedly, “Ah, the mobile suits! This ship’s pilots seem to show the kind of potential we are very interested in,” he responded. Sager floated past, loudly getting crewmen’s attention, “Heads up! We’re going to have mobile suits coming back soon for fuel and ammo! I need everybody that can to help me start clearing this area and prepping stations!”. Dr. Merkwürdigliebe’s smile grew a bit and he said to Rem, “Now this should be, eh, interesting. The Rick Do-- er, Diases should be heading back and we can begin gathering new data and interviewing pilots properly,”.

- Bridge -

“Sir, the Chuikov is reporting that they’re ready for whatever you have in mind. All the other ships are ready and waiting,” Jane announced, causing Capt. Abbey to release the breath he had been holding in a puff. So it seemed they would at least be able to attempt an escape as a group. If Nathan had told him he needed time or was unable to move, then Abbey would have had the 4th stand and fight beside the Chuikov for as long as possible. As it was, most of the fleet’s mobile suits were already involved around Dombrowski’s command. “Good. Get ready to come about, hard to port on my mark. We’re breaking off our run under the Titans,” Abbey ordered, waiting a moment for the message to relay. “Gunnery teams, prepare a full missile barrage for when we begin our turn,” he added as he watched the flashes of battle in front of the Dervish.

A few tense seconds later, Abbey tightened his grip on his armrests and ordered, “Mark,”. Wade leaned over his station at the helm, working hard along with Jane to coordinate the fleet’s maneuvers. The Dervish soon began a slow, wide turn to starboard, along with the Hamburg and New Yark. Abbey and Wade had figured out in what little time they had a way for the fleet to turn ‘around’ the Chuikov so that all Nathan had to do (at first, anyway), was turn his Salamis Kai around to stay oriented with the rest of the 4th. Their actual escape would be another matter all together. For the moment, everything would be up to the men and women fighting around the Chuikov.

- Team 3 -

Clute and Jack, who had peeled off from Jacob and Celeste as they sped into the fray at the Chuikov, both noticed two of the enemy’s new blue MS chasing a lone Rick Dias. “I see ‘em,” Jack grunted before Clute could issue an order, and he fired a lone long-range potshot at Shin’s back to get their attention. Clute charged ahead of him and fired an explosive round at Shin. “Let’s see how ya like it when someone attacks you from behind, jerk!” Tideland yelled, trying to get them to leave Michiko alone. Team 3 hadn’t been much of a factor in this fight so far, but Clute figured it was time they made their presence felt. Besides, at least he could get a close look at whatever those new suits were.

- Fritz -

Fritz pushed his Rick Dias, ignoring the now beeping propellant indicator, as he struggled to stay close to Wolf Ritter. Having Ritter’s attention, unfortunately, was rarely a good thing, and that was made clear when another one of those gigantic beam blasts was fired back at Fritz. His mouth compressed into a thin line and his eyes squinted from the Gs, his stress and anger, Fritz rolled to his left and cursed aloud as the beam passed by. One of the monitors on his right side flickered and went blank. “Ritter! I thought your kind aren’t afraid of destiny! Stop running from yours!” Fritz yelled after Wolf. Beyond Ritter, he noticed a Rick Dias and a Nemo that weren’t engaged with anyone. He hoped it was someone from Team 1 so they could help box him in.

This chase was taxing to both Fritz and his mobile suit. As he slowly ran out of fuel and ammo, Fritz realized he was fighting more recklessly than he had since before the last war ended. “Maybe it’s because you’re actually fighting to protect something you actually care about instead of something you’ve been taught to. Or someone…” he thought, stopping himself before he would have reflexively let go of his controls to touch his ring. “It won’t do to simply lash out at the Ritters like an animal. They’re too cunning for that, and it would be much too dangerous,”. True, he had killed Mercedes, but that minor ‘victory’ had left him feeling hollow. She was a Ritter, but somehow he didn’t feel she carried as much blame as her brothers and father.

It wouldn’t do to waste time and mental energy thinking about the dead girl when he had the younger Wolf Ritter himself in his sights. “Join your siblings!” Fritz yelled, firing another two shots at Wolf’s back.

- Hamburg Team -

Emington just finished his talk to his team when his receiver starting to buzz him up. Still in team chat he quickly noted the other about it, “Radio from the Hamburg, Bernard, Al you better listening.” He heard Capt. Loweno's voice on the speaker, “Emington! Be careful on your approach – hangar is all foulded up. Ens Kai…”

Jeriden wasn’t there in the Hamburg? Damn that rookie, where could he be…?

Randy’s couldn’t believe what he heard next, “Ens. Kai died from his injuries after he crashed into the ship. I’m sorry, JG. We’re down a man.”

Randy felt fatigue rushing in. His right hand reached for the helmet and opened the helmet's glass. Silently, he removed his eyeglasses and rubbed his forehead while listening to the speaker, “Emington, you’re going to have to land on the hull. I know it won’t exactly be the break you’re looking for, but we can get you fuel and weapons. If any of you are injured we can extract you and bring you inside. Until we get things sorted out here, we’re doing this landing ‘79 style,”

Jeriden... rest in peace my friend.

He finished his lament and replied, “Roger… We’re on our final approach. Ensign Korbel and Izuruha will land first,” and then to his team, “Boys, you know the drill, ‘79 style. Match your speed and touchdown slowly. We… I’m sorry about Jeriden. We’ll talk about it at more appropriate time."

The enemy was trying its best to stay on its feet but despite the fact he couldn't finish it the crazed pilot's mech was injured. That shrapnal cloud wasn't meant to stop his enemy but damage it enough to give his Hizack the advantage in combat. And now it was time to take that advantage and finish this match.

After the beam blew the leg from the Nemo Kyle grabbed his heat hawk. The enemy was pulling close to try and hit him but that wasn't going to happen. The enemy had quit acting like a crazy person and his movements had quit being so erratic. That meant he was easier to follow and inticipate. So hitting his verniers the Hizack pulled back and then shifted to the inside of the Nemo from below. The beam saber barely scorched his shoulder spikes and now the Hizack was close enough for a swing. So at the peak of the enemies swing Kyle drove the Heak hawk at the Nemo's chest with an underhand swing. He was going for the kill and to finish this fight.

Pan had slipped through the first of Ryo's shots but the second seemed to had struck his Rick Dias right on the left shoulder knocking the beam pistol from it's hand. There was no urgent warning beacons and Pan's concentration had flipped to pure rage.

"WATCH THE PAINT YOU AS*HOLE!" He shouted as he miraculously closed the distance his left shoulder streaming bits of molted metal along the way he drew his beam saber and thrusted the glowing beam saber at the titan's mid section, right below the cockpit.

-The Hamburg-

The captain's voice piped through the C.O.'s feed. Bernard heard everything clearly but when it came to Kai's status it didn't register. His heart sank and eyes widen with regret.

"That can't be right.."

He had survived the initial attack run and made it back? If I had stayed, could he be alive now?

"Ens. Korbel to Hamburg, I'm touching down."

As Bernard made his approach to land on the Hamburg's deck, he punched up a camera which zoomed in on mechanic teams on the hull waiting for their arrival. Waving lights they directed him to a cleared section on the deck.

As soon as the Nemo made contact with the hull, mechanic team A rushed up and initiated skin-talk. "You need extraction?"

"No. I just need a few minutes. Just let me know when you're done." Bernard requested.

Bernard looks at the far off stars. Unaware that his comm was still active, he uncharacteristically begins to talk to himself as he drifts further and further away from his old-self.

"Jeriden...he was a cop, I think... I wonder if they'll give him a new Nemo now?"

Their were times to celebrate disabling an enemy's suit, but this was hardly one of those times. Just as Elijah had released his pair of missiles his cockpit filled with a flashing crimson light. He was immediately informed of two rounds from an approaching Rick Dias. He quickly turned his Hizack in the direction of the projectiles as two rather large bazooka rounds filled the front view of his panoramic monitor.

Cursing quietly to himself Elijah jerked the suit's controls to the right as the quick acceleration of several verniers thrusting to life momentarily pushed him into the side of his harness. The first round passed without consequence however the second caught the end of the Hizack's shield as the brief contact tore away a good part of the reinforced material. Normally the force would have sent a person's suit spiraling out of control, however the Lieutenant was quick to counter the force of strike by feathering the apogee motors in the left region just so.

Regaining full control of the Hizack Elijah gripped his rifle in both hands as the thought of actually engaging an enemy just entered his mind.

Opening communications with Faraday he spoke out in a calmed haste that any XO should carry, "I'd love to congratulate you on your 'kill', Ensign, except that we have another matter on our hand." Hoping the Minovsky Interference not too great he pushed forward on the suit's thrust as he allowed the Hizack to accelerate in a leftward arch of the enemy Dias, approaching at half speed.

"I'll be angling left of the Rick Dias, take the right." As he finished those final words Elijah followed with three depressions of the trigger. His rifle lit with fire three times as the discolored beams shot out toward the Rick Dias.
"I came to laugh at you."

-Eddie and Cowboy-

They were nearly clear of the enemy, but still, the Titans kept it up. Five beams came flashing downward at them, apparently aimed at Eddie, but distance worked against them. Both Eckardy and Hamilton saw them coming from somewhere near the Alexandria, juking well away from the area they passed through.

But one more of the big beams came down, doubtlessly from the modded Hizack. It was more difficult to dodge, but still, the range made it happen, and the beam missed the two pilots by an easy dozen meters each.

"S***..." Eckardy breathed to himself.

"Damn right." Marvin's voice, staticy and broken up, but clear enough to make out the word. Eddie had keyed his comm without knowing. This time, he did it on purpose.

"Alright, Cowboy, lets get the f*** out of here. Ian and Wes can handle themselves".

"Roger." Eckardy's radio popped, the monitor that would normally show the pilots face remained a wall of static. Both pilots were worried about their teammates, mainly Ian, but they couldn't hang around. They continued moving downwards, but started on a course that would eventually lead them to the Dervish.

===============================================

-Ian-

Ian Greydon continued to mutter a stream of curses and profanities that would have made an old sailor, be it from water or space, proud. Eckardy would have his usual goofy grin, Ian knew. His attack on the tiger-striped Marasai had totally missed, even the damn bazooka, and while his beams had hit the other Marasai with minor effect.

Ian was moving downward, the two Titans and Wes were now well above him, but far enough away, and they were all close enough together, than Ian couldn't shoot at them for risk of Curren.

For a moment, Ian debated what to do in his mind, but didn't touch the controls of his Rick Dias, which quickly settled his mind. Turning, he sprayed a handful of shots at the Alexandria, and one back towards the Titans and Wes for the hell of it, before he kicked his thrusters again and started racing downwards.

Nick was able to dodge the three shots from his target contemptuously: this was almost too painfully easy. I mean, yes it was his job to box this man in with the Russian, but frankly, Nick was still on a high after offing the Ritter, and he wanted another good kill....

....the thoughts almost distracted him from dodging incoming fire from 'below'. He frowned and hesitated for a moment, wondering whether he should investigate...then shrugging and charging at the Rick Dias head-long, one beam saber forward, the other prepared for the eventual spinning swipe attack that was being masked by the charge.

But even THAT was a ruse of sorts; should he dodge, that would leave him vulnerable to Stukov, and Nick had confidence the Russian would take him down.

The attack was going better then planed thanks to the assist from Elijah that now seemed to cripple Thibaut's Nemo's backpack further, on top of the damage his last volley of 120mm shells had done. And now that he was in range, Aaron decide it was time to finish the enemy off and move on and assist anybody who needed help with another target.

Since he was using a 120mm, rather then the beam rifle, his Hi-Zack could run a beam saber. Drawing it with the Hi-Zack's left hand and keeping the 120mm in the right hand he lunged forward to stab the Nemo in the torso.

Suddenly Elijah sent a transmission that despite the static he could make out the more important details.

"I'd love to congratulate you.... we have another matter ..... I'll be angling left ...... the Dias, take the right."

The transmission had surprised him, causeing him to lose focus a bit with the stab and he wasn't positive it'd hit. If he missed he'd break off and assist the Lieutenant and unfortunately leave Thibaut alive to fight another day, but forced to retreat. If he hit, well at least the enemy would be dead. Ether way the Nemo wouldn't be in the fight anymore and he could then provide undivided attention to assisting Elijah.

Jacob wasn't exactly satisfied with his hit. After all, he would much have preferred to get an instant kill on the enemy pilot and take the Mobile Suit out of the fight with a single shot. He was glad that he did some damage though and got the Hizack's attention, though. Especially since it seemed that the Nemo the Hizack was attacking was now in rough shape.

He wasn't the least bit surprised when the Hizack came at him. Nor when it fired at him. That was only to be expected. Snatching the controls to the side, he pushed his Rick Dias into a slide to the right letting two of the beams streak past him. At the last moment he has to slam the controls to go down to avoid the last blast, though it comes far too close to the head of his mobile suit and, incidentally, the cockpit that he occupies.

He keeps that momentum going, leaning his Rick Dias back so that it's almost laying prone from his enemy's perspective with the feet towards the Hizack. He fires another shot from the bazooka, sending the projectile hurtling in the path of the enemy before firing two blasts from his beam pistol. Since they traveling much faster, he hardly leads his target at all with those shots, aiming for center of mass on his opponent.
Yep...That's Texas in a nutshell. Why just say "f**k you" when you can put it on a flag?

Sven was alive. Sweat rolled down his brow and down his suite. Now, this is living, This is doing ones duty. Sven’s position was just as perilous as before but now he had the added help of Beta team. The situation was even looking better as the pilot he had attacked, and subsequently retreated from seemed in no hurry or rush to push the attack.

His eyes darted across his display, he had no idea where the taskforce had gone to space had a way of wreaking havoc on internal compasses. Where is the Kirov? Where is the Taskforce? In his frantic search for his ship, where he would find sanctuary his eyes went “upwards and saw past Wolfs Marasai. There coming down onto Beta Team was a Rick Dias painted blue. Now, here is a pilot to worry about.

Just then he noticed the Kirov, but his attention was drawn back as the Rick Dias fired. Pushing his communications button for the team and jamming his thumb down on the fire button for his Vulcan’s lacking any other weapon, Sven tried to get a warning out while firing a quick burst at the Dias.

Randy wasn’t really paying attention to the chatter around. He already busied himself checking the damage to his suit. Just after he closed the helmet visor suddenly a particular voice draw his attention. It’s coming from the communication speaker. He already heard a part of if when he realized it was coming from Bernard’s unit. “… he was a cop, I think... I wonder if they'll give him a new Nemo now?"

Bernard…

Randy didn’t have the heart to reply. He turned off transmission from Bernard’s unit, leaving the man in peace. Soon it was his turn to land. He glides slowly and carefully matching his speed to the ship. The Nemo feet gently touch the deck before stopping completely and moving into a crouch position. He makes sure everything is alright before put aside the console and opening the cockpit hatch.

He step outside and started to look at his own bruised Nemo. The left arm completely blown off only a portion of the left shoulder is intact. Several men in normal suits flown to his place and ask of his condition. Randy gazed from the Nemo to the nearest person and replied, “No need for medical, I’m okay. On the other hand, the suit is… Well, as you can see it yourself. Left arm is gone and took some hits on the torso. Perform a check and minimal fix on left arm and torso. A portion of cockpit screen is a mess, but don’t bother about it. Just refuel the suit and give me a loaded rifle.”

Shin's beams had sliced perfectly into Jonas' Nemo, the first shot severing the rifle-wielding arm and the second burning through the middle of the chest before Chuikov Team's leader could react.

Jonas' last moments in this world were a photo-negative. Upon reaching the realization that he was about to die, Jonas let the icy hand clench his heart. I was never really cut out for this job. Might as well be vindicated.

Jonas' Nemo exploded in a sudden flash. Hello Vantz Howard, Ryu Takeda.

Caroline opened her eyes and saw red. It was in her helmet, the visor was cracked. After a moment of befuddlement, she slid open the visor and realized she'd blacked out. She was bleeding from a cut just under the left eye, but it was mostly cosmetic. The HUD screamed over low fuel thanks to a propellant leak.

Her last memory was blundering into the Chuikov's hull. She'd possibly blacked out then and was lucky not to have become some opportunistic Titan's free kill.

Now she had to get herself together. Without knowing where Jonas or Julian were, and with her fuel running low, Caroline feathered her verniers to drift her back to the Chuikov, hopefully without attracting enemy attention.

-Gilliarme-

Gill suddenly became aware pain of the AEUG finally taking notice of the amount of danger Michiko is pain from his abdomen and spreading in, and as Samantha kept her attack on Michiko, Shin was still near the Chuikov and was pain spreading everywhere but Gill could take it he always had now being flanked by Clute and Jack's Rick Diases --- that Shin had managed to kill Jonas' Nemo he had to take it for Sam and Shin at last didn't alleviate the brevity of the situation. Delta Team was now divided, and Michiko was leading him and Sam too far from Shin.

Not that it worried him any. There was always a way to deal with it.

He had to hold it in for Ellen.

Trailing after Samantha and following her first attack on Michiko with two Beam Blasts of his own, in the opposite direction Sam fired at to trap Michiko's Rick Dias for Samantha's discretion, Gilliarme suddenly yanked the flight stick as sharply upwards as it would go, bringing his Barzam into an upwards somersault, and soon found himself facing the complete 180 turn his Barzam was facing. Now 'upside down' and swerving to make himself a more distracting (and less easily hit) target, Gilliarme began blasting in Clute and Jack's direction, from the sides of their Rick Diases; The first two were for Jack, then as Gilliarme brought his Barzam into a sideways wheel to right himself, the next two came for Clute, followed by another one for each of them as Gilliarme then dashed sideways and up, keeping his Barzam at a good distance within both Sam and Shin's Barzams.

-Julian-

"Give me a break!" Julian sighed. Maybe the rumor mill were more accurate than Julian gave them credit for, but this wasn't going to discourage him from making a 'friend'. "Just trying to lighten up the situation, Slim Jim, that's all. After being surrounded by Titans elites for the past half an hour, sadly, I'm still surprised I'm alive."

Having not noticed Jonas' untimely death, Julian scoffed as Sven decided to turn tail and flee. Good thing, too. "Well, looks like chicken**** decided to cut his losses. You have a nice day now, Slim." Julian nodded, and saw clearly that he needed no prodding; MacAlpin was already moving away to engage Wolf. With a shrug, Julian began edging towards the Chuikov again, sending a few passing shots at Ryo and Wolf to discourage pursuit as Julian began searching for other targets.

- Hangar -

Rem was a bit surprised at Dr. M's statement. "That much potential? Really..." Rem trailed off as Chief Sagar floated past, shouting for help clearing the deck and prepping stations.

Dr. Merkwürdigliebe’s smile grew a bit and he said to Rem, “Now this should be, eh, interesting. The Rick Do-- er, Diases should be heading back and we can begin gathering new data and interviewing pilots properly.”

"Great! I've been looking forwards to actually speaking with some of the pilots about the suits' performance. Combat data is only half the story, nothing like pilot impressions to really get a feel for cockpit efficacy, layout, and responsiveness. I'm gonna go help clear the deck so we can start on data collection right away."

With that, he kicked off the catwalk towards the hangar floor. Grabbing a supply cart, he started moving it towards one of the areas marked "Conduit, Bolts, Safety Lockouts" on the deck. He nudged it into place and kicked the floor pedal. As he pushed back off, the supply crate's docking mechanisms engaged the floor, to keep it in place and out of the landing strip until needed. As he floated through the hangar to grab the next bit of equipment, he nodded at the mechanics who he had helped with the gun turret.

- Outside Side 2 -

- Sumitani & Sophie -

“Okaa~y!” Ramon hooted when he realized Kyle was finally up to a close range clash. Since he was a vet when it came to fighting Zeonic styled MS, Sumitani’s experienced eye was watching closely for a counter with a heat hawk. The old underhand swing to the chest was a good one, but it was a move Ramon had seen more than once during his time with the Federation. Because he was too close to angle his own blade down into a block, a bit of his normal eccentric flair returned in the form of a thruster-assisted forward flip that took him over the Hizack’s left shoulder. To pull it off he had to abort his own attack, but that was a price he was willing to pay to avoid being cleaved in half. Kyle’s upward swing caught the Nemo’s left leg as he vaulted over, further damaging it near the beam scorch.

The evasive left Ramon upside down and fairly close to Kyle’s back, but he accelerated ‘upwards’ instead of trying to capitalize on his positioning and decided to put some distance between himself and his opponent. He quickly surveyed the damage to his suit, but before he could decide how to best resume his duel with Kyle, Sophie was at his side.

“Sir, I think we should consider finding Lt. Mello and the kid soon. We’re all going to run out of propellant and ammo out here if we keep this up,” she said, her Nemo’s hand pressed against the shoulder of Sumitani’s MS. Ramon stayed silent for a moment and then his smiling face appeared in Ens. Coggs’ HUD. “Heeeeeey! Withdrawing and regrouping, hooo~!” he yelled, his only completely understandable communication with Sophie in a while (it wasn’t even sung!). Ramon pointed in the direction they had split away from Thibaut and Mello, and then headed out ahead of her. Sophie, who still had a rifle and a decent charge, followed closely behind to discourage pursuit.

- Thibaut -

Ens. Chareux, who had been pushed to his absolute limit as an inexperienced pilot, found himself facing down yet another ordeal in the form of Aaron Faraday’s beam saber. His voice, getting hoarse from all the yelling he had been doing both for help and in fear, cracked as he yelped and jerked his controls to the side with his eyes squeezed shut. He was tired, and he guessed it was just his time. All that pressure and hostility focused on him before he was ready to handle it - anyone in his shoes would have buckled just like he had. So when he saw Faraday’s saber heading his way, he finally gave up and let instinct move the controls as they pleased.

When he cracked an eye open, he saw darkness and gave thanks that at least his death had been painless and instant. It was strange, being dead. He felt like he was sitting down, his whole body - particularly his arms - tired and perspiring. And then the backup systems finally kicked in and his battered HUD whined to life. “…wha?” he asked aloud as his own Nemo’s slagged head drifted across his field of vision in a tiny cloud of cooling debris. His cheeks turned crimson when he suddenly surmised he was not, in fact, dead. His damage assessment wasn’t working properly, so he had no idea how much of his Nemo had been suddenly removed from above his head. He gulped when he realized what could have happened had he been in a Rick Dias.

Faraday’s momentum had carried him past Thibaut’s Nemo (which now had an ugly gash across the top of its torso where the head and a good chunk of the right shoulder’s armor used to be), and the rookie made the most of the opportunity and ran away like a mad man. “Lt. Mello! We have to get out of here, now!” he broadcast as he headed straight for his team leader’s mobile suit. What he didn’t see was Ramon and Sophie coming up on Faraday’s left where he had just retreated.

- The Hamburg -
- Bridge -

“Captain, all of our mobile suits have landed on the hull,” Lt. Stalvern gruffly reported from somewhere behind Loweno. “No sh*t,” André muttered under his breath. He was practically close enough to have a staring contest with Ltjg. Emington’s Nemo. Of course, he gave a gesture that made it seem as if his XO’s news were of vital importance. “If I know this fleet like I think I do, our boys are on the leading edge of a general withdrawal. Tell Emington and the others to stay on their toes, but I don’t think we’re going to be in the thick of things for much longer,”.

- Michiko, Clute & Jack -

Michiko realized those new models were serious about chasing her down, so she suddenly changed direction and turned back to face Delta. The rest of Samantha and Gilliarme’s fire flew through the area she would have still been traveling in, which was now above her head. Somewhere out ahead of her, Gilliarme was doing his best to be a pain to Clute and Jack. “Watch it. We don’t know what these are capable of,” Clute warned, hoping that Jack could hear him and was still willing to listen. A burst of static came back at him that he reckoned was a response. Delta Team was now fighting from within an impromptu AEUG delta formation of sorts, with Michi, Jack and Clute at the points.

Clute and Jack both spread further apart as Gilliarme’s initial attacks reached them. Clute put his commander’s Dias into a high speed roll that let the Titan’s beams pass to his right. Jack dropped down out of his original flight path as quickly as he dared, gritting his teeth at the Gs, and let the fire fly above his head. Clute’s machine allowed him to recover quicker, and soon another explosive round was bound for Gill’s Barzam. Jack bounced back to a regular straight path and followed it up with another attack of his own.

The battle between the two was over as he managed to slice the leg clean off the Nemo before it valuted over him. Very Olympic like to be sure but it worked none the less. His eccentric foe pulled away quickly and started to regroup with its partner throughout the event leaving the Herekles team alone for now. Opening communications with his team mates he gave his own order.

"Don't give chase. Their heading back towards their ship to regroup and we don't have the firepower to continue this. I order a regroup back at the Herekles to rearm." He had given the order and waited for the others to move out. He would fall in last in order to look after the rear.
