protecting gundam marker paints

what can i use to protect chrome plated silver gundam markers so that it will still have the shine look, but stays fine. Using a water base varnish reacted with gundam markers paint in the past, what works?

By varnish, do you mean a model kit clear coat, or did you actually try a varnish? Varnish is household grade and even if water based would react with model kit paints. Try a spray on clearcoat from a hobby store or the model kit department of Micheals/whatever craft store you go too. That would probably be the easiest method assuming high commitment is not an option.
