finished my MG sinanju last night, painting all that gold on was a bit of a hassle but i'm glad i took the time to do so, one of the most satisfying models i've ever built

Re: Latest Gundam/Mecha Merchandise thread (2008-2009)

I bought a Mark 2 (I think a real new kind, it say's 2.0 on it) and a Zeta Gundam, both MG model kits, at NYAF.

I'm still prtty novice at working on model kits (I made some wing models years and years ago), so i'm pretty nervous, but I made the Mark 2's leg, and while compex heck, it's really cool and well made (in the sense it was well manufactored, i'm sure i'm doing a crummy job :P ) and am prolly gonna get around to finishing half of it (lower half, then work my way up) by Monday.

The Zeta model has me knda worried, since it doesn't have a base, and I think i read a pretty scathing review of a baseless Zeta MG on MAHQ before...so here's hoping it goes well :?

@Thechoort: that's probably the Zeta v1.0 you got if you say it doesn't have a base/stand. it's not that bad, just don't transform it from MS to WR mode too often.

Ok, that's sorta a relief. The review on MAHQ tore into it pretty good, I was worried I spent 40 bucks on a garbage model kit, which would stink considering how much i'm enjoying the Mark 2 kit, which is a joy to put together. Well, except for the part where I cracked the rear skirt armor a bit (my own fault, I forgot to snap a piece under the skirt armor, so trying to un-snap the skirt armor...yeah.). I might try and use some epoxy puddy and paint over it to hide it, but since it's so out of the way it might not be worth fixing. I don't think the crack even seperated, i'll give it another look when I work on the torso later, see what I can come up with.

Re: Latest Gundam/Mecha Merchandise thread (2008-2009)

regarding the damage on your Mk.II's skirt armor, if you wanna glue it back together but is too lazy to paint (as i am most of the time  ) try looking for the "gel" version of your favorite super glue (Loc-Tite has that variant i think). it doesn't leave the whitish residue as the normal super glue does, and dries up colorless. just apply sparingly and try to sand down the surface just a bit.

back to the Zeta v1.0, here are comparison pics of the Zeta v1.0 and v2.0, courtesy of Dalong's reviews (copy+paste links into browser address bar):

MS Mode (left v1.0, right v2.0):

back: http://dalong.net/review/mg/m87/p/m87_c27.jpg

WR Mode

Top: http://dalong.net/review/mg/m87/p/m87_c11.jpg
Side: http://dalong.net/review/mg/m87/p/m87_c13.jpg

aside from the obvious differences in proportions, the v1.0 isn't too bad IMHO. as i said, just don't "play" with it too often lest the joints becomes too loose. most problematic in this regard with the v1.0 is the wing joints; this has been addressed by Bandai in the v2.0, but even so, it's not immune to getting loose. i've seen v2.0's that've grown so floppy from too much transformation. bottomline: these are kits, not toys.

if you wanna view more, here are the links to Dalong's reviews of the v1.0 and v2.0 (the review for v2.0 has more comparison pics between the two, including head, weapons, etc.):

Re: Latest Gundam/Mecha Merchandise thread (2008-2009)

Might as well post all my new guys. I'm quickly hating blatantly obvious stickers....

HGUC Zaku I "Black Tri-Stars Custom": http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/imag ... 0251b1.jpg

HGUC Zudah: http://c2.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/imag ... be75ad.jpg

HGUC Guncannon: http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/imag ... 73d39a.jpg

^I later gave him the 108 designation

HG 8th MS Team GM Sniper: http://c3.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/imag ... 5a5ad2.jpg

^I later gave HIM the 109 designation from the Guncannon kit. Why? Because in my mind games Hayato decided on a souped-up GM instead of a Guncannon.

And this guy, 1/144 NG V Gundam: http://c1.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/imag ... d05498.jpg

Took more effort to get him looking good, but he's become one of my favorites.

Full family shot.

Gundam is not about heroes looking badass by saving love interests. Gundam is about heroes bawling and spouting philosophies after failing to save love interests.
Basically true.

Re: Latest Gundam/Mecha Merchandise thread (2008-2009)

My MG Exia has arrived. I chose the normal version, for several reasons.
-I never liked Exia Repair
-Not really interested with bling2 parts
-LED gimmick is cool but I think the excitement will die very soon
-I can get Ignition mode in premium price, but I'm such a cheap person:), 1250 yen matters to me.
That being said, my next target will be RD Arbalest. It'll be my first RD.

1/144 Heavyarms Custom
1/144 Full Armor Seventh

1/100 Providence

Mine should arrive in a few days. I have HG OO Gundam (the first one released) as well, luckily I held out from buying the O-Raiser; But now I wonder what should I do with the extra HG OO Gundam....
Anyway, I got two kits last week, a long awaited MG Wing Zero Custom and MG Gundam MK.II Titans ver 2.0 (limited HD version). My first limited MG ever!
