So I sprayed a lacquer clear coat over a model I had panel lined with a gundam marker. I was blissfully unaware before doing this that lacquer is a stronger paint, and so it sort of messed up the lines a bit. Now that I know better, I was wondering what kind of clear coat is best over gundam marker paint. (What kind of paint are in Gundam markers?)
Although I am switching to panel line washes using enamel paints to line my kits, I have many kits I previously lined with markers that I want to put clear coats over, but with out messing up the lines this time.

Re: Clear Coat over Gundam Marker
Most of the Gundam markers use acrylic paint. However, panel-lining marker GM01 and GM02 uses lacquer paint.Yardly wrote:So I sprayed a lacquer clear coat over a model I had panel lined with a gundam marker. I use a Krylon matte clear sealer, there is one speicifically made for plastic. Also make sure you don't spray to close, 3 to 5 feet away is always best.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if it effects decals in anyway? I've read some horror stories about top coats ruining decals...jabman025 wrote:I use a Krylon matte clear sealer, there is one speicifically made for plastic. Also make sure you don't spray to close, 3 to 5 feet away is always best.

I have not had any issues with them, but I might be warry of using the spray on decal heavy kits like the Unicorn ver. KA. Most of the time I use the spray on kits I have added weathering effects to like my Dom, my Ez8, and my GM sniper. All of which don't have a lot of decals to begin with.Yardly wrote:Thanks for the info. Do you know if it effects decals in anyway? Re: Clear Coat over Gundam Marker
Well the kits I'll be using it on don't have very few to no decals anyway, so it be alright then. Thanks!
