AMAIM: Warrior at the Borderline (Kyoukai Senki) anime

https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2 ... me/.170670

It seems that Sunrise Beyond is making a new anime this fall.

Story is, Japan has been partitioned into four, one guy finds an AMAIM mech named Kyobu, and uses it to defeat the occupation. Another guy is also piloting an AMAIM to avenge his parents' death and might be either allied or a rival to the Kyobu.

Nobuyoshi Habara will direct the story, Noboru Kimura will pen it.

Re: Kyōkai Senki anime project

feels like a mish mash of Geass and Shinkalion, story and character designs respectively. and the main mech'
kinda head looks like Made in Abyys' Bondrewd.

Re: Kyōkai Senki anime project

I love the difference in the Chinese and English mecha community comments.
Most of the comments about this show in Chinese are talking about how ugly the design is and Bandai should just go back to making Gundam(as a sarcasm)
I personally also don't find this face to be cool looking and I particularly don't like the face of it in the anime version but don't think it is as bad as to the point of ugly. (The model version is better somehow). But I kinda like the leg design.

Re: Kyōkai Senki anime project

Personally, I would give it a chance, looks like Japan has been partitioned in the map, and it strongly reminded me of this...

https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/commen ... _in_japan/

Basically, Russia, the United States, China, and Oceania (Australia-India) partitioned it.

It also reminded me a bit of the early design of Gundam G-Self, with the head kinda having the shape of Catsith's.

I quite like the looks of the mecha action, drawn mecha animation is becoming more and more of a rarity.

Also, for the record, this is the Official Website.

Re: Kyōkai Senki anime project

Bringing this back up because Bandai Spirits just released the A-part of Episode 1 for an advanced screening, and confirming an October 4 start date.

A synopsis of Episode 1 has been posted as well (though it's nothing we don't already know):
Episode 1.
In the mid-21st century, Japan has been divided and ruled by four economic blocs. Amou Shiiba, a young boy born in a subjugated Japan, spends his days in depression, until one day he meets Gai, an autonomous thinking AI that had been abandoned in the grass.
EDIT: Adding the Character and I-Les profiles:

Shiiba Amou - A 16-year-old who is not good at socializing. His hobby is collecting parts. Spends his days depressed, but his world changes when he meets the autonomous thinking AI "Gai".

Gai - As an I-LeS (Autonomous Thinking AI), an AI with an ego, is manly and sometimes wild. He and Amou are good partners, both in battle and in their personal lives.

Tezuka Gashin - A 16-year-old member of the Resistance. He is calm and blunt. He is in pursuit of the mysterious "Ghost," the avenger of his father.

Kei - An I-LeS with the same development history as Gai, it inherited data from the tactical AI used by Tetsuka's father. Her personality is calm and she has a female voice.

Shishiba Shion - A 16-year-old with a mature personality. Her special skill is the naginata. Following in the footsteps of her grandfather, who was a potter, she dreams of reviving Himeno-yaki, a pottery style that was abandoned after the invasion.

Nayuta - A self-proclaimed Italian gentleman, the I-LeS calls himself Angelo. He may sound frivolous, but he is highly loyal to his partner, Shion.

Certainly looks interesting, I'll check it out.

This isn't the first time Sunrise has put out an anime for Robot Spirit / Tamashii Nation is it?

Re: AMAIM: Warrior at the Borderline (Kyoukai Senki) anime

So what does everyone think of the first episode?(SPOILER) You can definitely see a Gundam influence in the mechs (in particular they look like IBO mechs). The first episode got off to a strong start combining worldbuilding, meeting the protagonist and the first mech battle, which was awesome and well animated. It seems like the story might grow gradually as the series goes, rather than just jumping right into the big battles. We haven't even met the other mech pilots yet. Any word on how many episodes this is supposed to get?

The first episode is typical Sunrise, but it works. There's no confirmed episode count yet but judging from the plamo release schedule it will be a straight two-cour series for this run at the minimum. I'd suggest as much as well given the apparent pacing they're going for.

Each faction has a different mecha designer assigned to it which really helps in making each distinct. All four have worked on Gundam previously, though Yuya Koyanagi from Ken Okuyama Design (which designed the Kenbu and Bunyip Boomerang prominently featured in the ep) is the newest in terms of Gundam design experience, having worked with Bandai Spirits on the design of the RX-78 G40 released late in 2019 with a couple of accompanying shorts.

Re: AMAIM: Warrior at the Borderline (Kyoukai Senki) anime

Having different designers for different factions was something that they also employed in Majestic Prince, and that resulted in quite distinctive designs for each faction in the work. The prologue offers a glimpse at the 4 factions AMAIM units (one is compact and covered in Red and Black armor, The only named one so far is the Bunyip Boomerang and resembles the Graze from IBO, there's a Dark Blue unit that looks like the Tormaria from Argevollen and seems to be made for cold climates, and the last one kinda resembles a Grey scaled down version off the Hugo from IBO). I wonder if all of the units will be made into Plamodels? As most non Gundam shows usually don't turn EVERY unit into a model.

We actually have names for everything you enumerated, thanks to plamo release schedules. (This might be more suited to the Mecha section but I don't think there's enough demand if a thread was created there) (The links below go to their Bandai Hobby page, because of course)

Starting with the AMAIMs, we have the Byakuchi from the sidestory, and our main trio: the Kenbu, the Jogan and the Reiki, all of which were designed by Yuya Koyanagi.

Next we have the Oceania Union and their Bunyip Boomerang. This is a Yuya Koyanagi design as well.

Third there's the North American Alliance and their Brady Hound
Spoiler
which seems to have an ace custom coming as well,
together with the Stork Carrier which these units get carried into battle on. These are Kanetake Ebikawa designs.

The last faction we have any unit information for is the Asian Free Trade Association and their Nyuren. This is by Ippei Gyoubu.

There's another faction (the Federation of Great Eurasia) but information is pretty scant at the moment, but we know that the designs are by Kenji Teraoka which explains their Tieren/Ahead-like stance.

Re: AMAIM: Warrior at the Borderline (Kyoukai Senki) anime

Thanks they look amazing, hopefully they get exported. This also helps flesh out more of the world building in the multiple factions (which like Gundam 00 all have their own mechs, which really makes it easier to tell apart than the numerous factions in the EA in Seed). Hopefully this means it will be a longer series; so that they can fully explore all of the factions within, though often there's at least one faction in a work that gets less development(that may well be the Eurasian Federation).

Re: AMAIM: Warrior at the Borderline (Kyoukai Senki) anime

Well now the second episode's aired (SPOILERS)

It starts off as a breather episode, but builds into a nice battle at the end. We meet the Asian Free Trade Alliance and get to see the Nyuren in action. We are starting to see more developed and reoccurring characters; though its too early to tell which factions will get the most development. Plus we get a glimpse of a new main character and mech at the end, so the third episode should be interesting...

As we get closer to the release of the second cour, we're getting more details, starting with the preview of Episode 14 (i.e the first half of the episode) on Bandai Spirits' Youtube channel.

Next we get to the new AMAIMs announced so far (spoilers):

Awesome, The Update main units look so cool, they looked a bit plain to start with honestly. Any word on if the mech models will be released internationally? Also has it been said when the second cour will start?
