...Or maybe McMurdo will instead differ to Orga as Naze's "successor". At any rate Jasley is walking a very sharp and thin knife-edge with the Old Man right now. If it's discovered who sicked the Kujan hound on Naze his life is forfeit, even if McMurdo decides to just disown him, which I doubt. That Jasley is in for it.

You know, I wonder honestly if at least one or two Gjallarhorn soldiers won't at least spread the rumor about Idiok's actions. They're surely obliged to report him, otherwise they're breaking greater oaths to Gjallarhorn's principles. We've seen them do morally questionable things, but never until now have seen them breaking their own taboo. Interfering with elections is muddy and murky as the politics they're trying to affect, but taking out an "inhumane" weapon and using it repeatedly, and then ignoring surrender signals is very blatant war crimes, as is mentioned.

Unless Rustal intends to make Idiok a precedent for using Dainslaifs (or whatever they're called), which still would be taboo and highly illegal, I can't see him letting himself be seen with that fool for much longer. But I would still prefer a painful cockpit crushing for him. He deserves to go like Amida did.

Edit: Ein technically broke several taboos by his very existence, but he wasn't exactly brought out in front of the troops with full knowledge of what he was and is. Besides, they were still researching AV tech "until recently" according McGillis, so that sounds greyer than the Dains.

What Idiok deserves IMO is to be placed on the receiving end of the same kind of No-Holds-Barred Beatdown inflicted on Carta back in Season 1, only even more horrendously and brutally one-sided, and without the benefit of a last-second rescue before the killing blow falls. And the bestial, if not downright monstrous-looking creature that the Barbatos becomes with its upgrade to Lupus Rex seems to be a fitting candidate to inflict that level of brutality.
At least that's my opinion.

I would agree, but there's always the satisfying option of a mobile suit literally falling on top of him with his hands tied behind his back. Or better yet, have Mikatos step on him. Squash him.

But I fear he won't be going down like Carta. If he actually is a competent pilot (he would have to be if he has a Gundam-frame armed with Dainsleifs) and has a Gundam... well, there's only so much that can be done in the beatdown department. The Gundam, after all, doesn't deserve to suffer him at its sacred controls, nor go down pathetically because of its pilot. (Except the Age 3) *psychotic snarl*

RE: All those people calling out a brutal death for Iok (understandably that's most watchers): Death is too good for this kid at this point. Him suffering a beatdown of epic proportions will just make him a martyr to his equally pathetic sycophant followers. A swift death is the best thing that can happen to him in this case. He needs to be tarred, feathered and put on public display as he has to watch every single one of his sycophant crew be executed one by one with a bullet to the head. Then he has my permission to die Then he has to live with it for the rest of his life (I'm cruel).

Now realistically, there should be records of Iok's crew's wrongdoings. This is a perfect ploy for McGillis to make his move and publicly call him out on it, and he didn't even need to do anything (unlike S1 where he goaded Gaelio to give Ein an AV treatment then call him out on it as an excuse to purge Gjallahorn). Rustal's a chess player too though, and he might fully disown Iok as well to wash his hands off the war crimes. Iok's standing with Rustal was already low to begin with. Or both parties can just say eff it, release their own illegal machines, screw the treaties and rules and have an open wild-west war. Either way, it'd be interesting how it plays out.
And I now believe Amida was probably the best pilot in the entire story, and none of us knew it. Mika could only rival Julietta and he has 3 AVs. Amida did all she did with nothing. Take note, Hushpuppy, take note. Your time may yet come, if you just applied yourself to doing more than carrying Mika
Yep, yep and yep. It's hard to gauge how skilled McGillis is, but the Grimgerde is a fast, advanced unit. Ditto Vidar and... Vidar. But Amida just shut down a unit introduction (and the Julia has a neat-ass sword/whip thing, too), just an old-school beatdown by someone who's in a different league altogther. She's like my favorite type of pilot; no special tricks, just skills and a bit of sass.

If I read Rustal right, he won't mind Idiok using Deinslaif. He would, however, mind that he used Deinslaif and leaving enough witness/evidence of it that even if it can't trace back to him, it would be enough excuse for the power blocks to use them in battlefield.

Remember that while Rustal is behind Dort Massacre and Abrau-SAU Conflict, he's careful enough that his position as law-keeper is untouch beyond some rumor (we saw how it happen, but people in-universe would have no idea if that explosion cause by Gjallarhorn or Union's protesters). What Idiok done mean that (to in-universe chaarcters) either Gjallarhorn used Deinslaif themselves, or some unindentified force use it against Turbines. Either of that would be enough excuse to field their own Deinslaif.

In other words, I expect Idiok to merrily boast his success to Rustal in the next episode, only to has Rustal throw a report of how Deinslaif become common weapon again at him. EXCATLY what Rustal warned him before.

For the most ironic and deserving fate, Idiok would spend his last moment hiding like coward (as we seen briefly in this episode), and a pike piecing through his safty wall moment after he's "safe".

Ow! Right in the feels, this episode. But it was a true Gundam moment, so I shall shed no tears anymore. Naze Turbine went down swinging, and making sure the optics would favor him and make Arianhrod Fleet look like utter rat bastards. Will also miss Amida a great deal, since she was Best Girl of IBO, just as much on the epic badass level as Naze, and a hot MS pilot. At the same time I give IBO some Gundam cred in the story pacing and setup. Orga didn't get to lead the cavalry, Mika-kun didn't launch, and the cavalry was going to be too late anyway. There were no cop-outs or miracle saves this time, just the cold equation of firepower versus guts.

Now the unprocessed organic fertilizer is gonna meet the oscillating ventilation device... A lot of stuff is going to go down very fast, setting us up for the Final Fight(s). My prediction, like Kuruni, is that the useful Idiok (sic) will get the credit he deserves, along with the blame he deserves for being so ham-handed about it. Way to escalate the fighting level, dude! The rival aniki back at Teiwaz may also make the mistake of gloating, allowing Orga to learn who was involved in setting up Naze. He can't do anything at a formal function, but that guy had best never stop at Mars, or travel without a MS escort...

"the vastness of space": I hear you Orga. BTW the season opener in Canada seems rather presecient now. No doubt as intended! ;)
Got your back bro: This is the secondary pilots' time to shine! Great job guys, you earned your MS pilot rankings and potential future love interests.
didn't need the battle bridge: Dammit IBO, teasing us with that flag! Was rather disappointed that Amida hadn't taken a giant bazooka along...
Optics: Stories are gonna get around about this, and the Turbine gals will make sure they lose nothing in the telling.
"She should be able to dodge it.": Damn that's cold, and he didn't even blink.
a feeling of relief: I do believe Julietta survived her learning experience! :D That's right girl, there is always someone better out there, and you lived to realize this instead of becoming another kill sticker on Amida's MS.

Friend just pointed this out to me:

Iok - anagram for Kio? Both hated by the fandom? Coincidence?

...yeah totally but still. :P Sadly the writing was on the wall, but unlike the prior deaths and faux-deaths, I liked how this was handled because Naze and Amida knew they weren't coming out of this alive, and went out on their own terms. It gave a different atmosphere to the whole situation rather than the last couple deaths, and unlike the end of Season 1, there was no fake-out here.

Iok's gotta go.. but considering how strongly people feel about him, I fully expect him to last until the very end, perhaps even live.

Jasley is alway an A-grade ZOINKS, and he only got worse with every episode recently. Thankfully it look like the next episode will be the last time we have to tolerate him.

Rustal give Idiok mild "you ZOINKS up" note. Dammit, it isn't as epic as I thought, although it does look like it will escalate soon.

Ok, Akihiro's cluelessness lift up the mood slighly, thankfully both CassanovaWannabe are nearby and set him in right direction.

You know, I think I see why Iok and Jasley get along well (even if Jasley simply use Iok). Look like both of them will be key that make Teiwaz and Gjallarhorn to fall apart.

Mika and Atra's conversation about making baby make me chuckle. Damn, he's so clueless that it actually work.

...and damn, why it doesn't end at that point? So instead of a breather episode, we get the upcoming battle build up instantly. I guess we'll see Barbatos become a true beast next.

Oh No No No No God F***** Damnit WHY?!?!?!
Spoiler
Show
Lafter x Akihiro was one of the few rays of sunshine left in this series. Now with that ship sunk all that's really left is Mika x Atra and things aren't exactly looking bright for them.
Despite it being a trap Orga won't back down now and knows it will most likely end their relationship with teiwaz. McGillis says they'll have his full support but I get the feeling Orga has grave reservations about having only McGillis to turn to. Also when McGillis said, "I will never betray you" I could not help but recall Char's "I never betrayed anyone" comment from Zeta.

On a side note, is anyone else having trouble opening spoilers since the forums got a face-lift.

We updated to the newest version of the forum software, but it doesn't support the old theme.

As to those having trouble with spoiler tags, we're looking into it.

NO!

I knew they were going to go this direction the moment Lafter walked away from Akahiro. Incredible, a trope reversal. If only she'd chosen love!

And the ship has literally sailed for Atra. I wonder if the "construction" has already started? I'm now very worried for Mika's survival. If he manages to have a child with Atra, his plot armor will decrease by many orders of magnitude. Not good for him in the long run. But it was a sweet moment, and one long in coming. It's nice to know he had feelings for Atra as she did for him. So rarely do we get into his thick skull, it was questionable if he'd keep his cliche Shounen obliviousness. Of course, shounen heroes live longer most times, so perhaps they just got the right idea of how to live in their genre. :|

And yes, I cannot open spoiler tags either, and therefore I'm refraining from their use, not that we've been making frequent use of them anyway these days...

And I hate the new smilies. Oh Tomino my smilies...

As for the rest of the episode, I genuinely think this is one of the few talk episodes that seriously hit every target it shot at. UNFORTUNATELY! Very good drama, *Sob* the teddy bears were used as BAIT!

That scene with McGillis gave me chills. I genuinely want to see him NOT betray Orga at the last, or at least give us a reason for why. What really, really hit home is that Orga is now learning to play politics. I could just tell from his hopeless face that he had a sinking feeling when he heard McGillis' reply. He knows the man can't be trusted, and that in all liklihood he and his Tekkadan family will be tossed like an expended magazine the instant they lose worth. But even when it's obvious, McGillis is still playing innocent with him.

But this brings up Macky's character as a whole. He truly is a brilliant Char clone, probably the best I've seen since the man himself. (And on that note, gotta change my signature soon...) It really is impossible to tell exactly what will happen with his character, though that's becoming less and less murky. In a way, he's more a second Durandel. Good intentions, good acting, nefarious smirk. Still, his actions are illogical:

So far as I can tell, in all seriousness, there was no reason in hell for McGillis to do any of what he did to Carta and Galileo. Gali-gali wasn't opposing the loli-marriage. He opposed corruption. He was a childhood friend and supposed confidant. Why, exactly, did he have to die? His father is still out there, undeveloped and a walking time bomb. Even now, after having been "murdered", "Vidar" wants to understand why his friend did what he did, before exacting revenge. That's so... descent, honest, a spin on revenge rarely seen.

As for Carta, if she was so head-over-heels for him, why kill her to gain her position? She'd have offered it, and herself, to him on a silver platter with a full-fledge parade with mobile suits if he asked her nicely. And she wasn't a bad combatant or warship commander to boot, if utterly, ineptly shallow and devoid of realistic notions of honor. In other words, a useful underling.

Well, at least Jasley's fate is clear, now. He will die by Hedge Clipper. He picked the wrong flower, so to speak. This one's petals are sharp... and bloodthirsty.

I was ready to judge this show until 2/3rds of the way in. Yes, the funeral was needed, but I thought it strayed too much back to filler tier.

-Would have liked to see a good Lafter/Akihiro date that isn't your stereotypical awkward "date" about a girl head over heels for this big tough guy who can't express emotions... or something.

-Again, Atra's baby thoughts are getting old at this point. Who cares.

But then...

+I began to worry when Lafter had a flashback scene. I thought after that farce of a date she would join Tekkadan, and get mugged in the next episode or two, forcing Akihiro to go Galan-rage mode. Turns out the end result is much quicker, much more sadden and much more brutal. I didn't imagine it to end like that. I can't even imagine how Azee feels right now (her reaction was chilling), that stuff flat out ruins you, I bet.

+Jasley has gone on full-evil mode; Looks like the sides are clear in that Teiwaz is about to have a full-on civil war, with McMurdo likely on Tekkadan's side (I bet he knows what Jasley is up to; he's an old man and has likely seen all this kind of crap go down before)

+Rustal didn't seem too bothered about Iok's villainy, either. Aside from a warning that McGillis is investigating him, it's all in all, a slap in the wrist.

+Looks like Orga doesn't give a crap anymore --- Mika given the full license to do whatever he wants in the battlefield. I get the feeling that he's also being used by McGillis but doesn't seem to care at this moment.

+McGillis, I really, really, really hope he's not the final big bad. I even struggle to think of any angle, any scenario in which he would turn against Tekkadan. But I still get the feeling that he'll turn.

-IMO A missed opportunity for Julietta's post-fight, in-depth reaction to her shellacking and Idiok firing at her direction.

+Barbatos Lupus Rex is rare for a final mecha in that the final good guy mecha in any full series is loaded with wings, winglets, wings of light, and all kinds of wing-like protrusions; the Rex has none of that. RX-78-2 with Magnetic Coating is the only other "final" protagonist mecha that doesn't have such wingy things.

I don't see what wing like things you're talking about with the final form of the Barbatos here... its got more armored arms and extra high heels and the stinger on the back... Its base form mostly looks the same, just new arms and heels and slightly redesigned chest armor and shoulders.
