Funnily enough, teaming up is done a lot more in the PSP games than it was in the actual stories, O'Reagan... at least until some of the season two arcs. Oh and the special episode/recap.
I can see why you'd have those problems with season 1, they're a lot of the same problems I have with season 1. I'd recommend giving season 2 a shot, I enjoyed it somewhat more than season 1. But I can't agree with you on Asuna.
