Wow I have just been a spitball of anime news recently...go me?
Well anyway:
"This year's 33rd issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine revealed on Saturday that the upcoming Dragon Ball film will be set betweeen the 517th and 518th installments of Akira Toriyama's original manga. Specifically, it is set during the "lost decade" of story time after the end of the battle with Majin Buu. Kuririn, Piccolo, Vegeta, and other familar characters will appear in the film. The film is not a spinoff, but a story in the official history of Dragon Ball.
Akira Toriyama has been deeply involved in the film's production from the early screenwriting stages. Masahiro Hosoda (Dragon Ball Z episode director, Nangoku Shounen Papuwa-kun) is directing at Toei off a script by Yūsuke Watanabe (live-action 20th Century Boys trilogy, Gantz, Bloody Monday, Future Diary)."

So unlike Sailor Moon, I actually watched DBZ. Not my favorite, but my brothers loved the hell out of that show...and I liked Bulma at times and it did give me an unhealthy obsession of bull-cuts and muscular men who care more about fighting then their respective significant others...huh....
But Dragon Ball Z was never my cup of tea nor was it aimed at girls anyway, and since I figured that Gundam Wing/Toonami is so popular here...anyone's thoughts?

Re: New Dragon Ball Z Movie!
The more Dragonball Z games, movies, and whatnot that come out, the more I'm viciously embittered that none of this shit came out when I was twelve-thirteen and still into the franchise.
Well, that news is kinda cool regardless, I suppose.

As long as it's fairly decent and that Ubuu guy doesn't show up, I'll watch it.

Does the article mention any significant changes to the appearances of the characters?

Will Son Gohan be actually become what Toriyama has envisioned pre-Boo? A true successor to Goku's might instead of female fearing wuss that he has become post Cell Arc?

isnt Goku also afraid of his wife? Besides in the Buu saga i thought it is shown that Gohan is indeed as strong as Goku already.

But Goku saved the day anyhow..... once again. That's why I don't like the Buu Saga and wish DBZ ended after Cell.

I know the feeling, dude. Even Toriyama don't like Buu saga (AFAIK)Arbiter GUNDAM wrote:But Goku saved the day anyhow..... once again. That's why I don't like the Buu Saga and wish DBZ ended after Cell.
And Goku fears Chichi because...well, because she is the daughter of Bull Demon King and altogether immune to saiyan power (somehow...)

That's just a fan rumor with nothing concrete to back it up.Mythgarr wrote:I know the feeling, dude. Even Toriyama don't like Buu saga (AFAIK)Arbiter GUNDAM wrote:But Goku saved the day anyhow..... once again. That's why I don't like the Buu Saga and wish DBZ ended after Cell.
Anyway, I'm glad to see a new movie coming out. The 2008 special for Weekly JUMP's fourtieth anniversary was a lot of fun. The cut scenes for Ultimate Blast, espicially the opening, were also great, so I'd love to see what a full-on film that receives Toei's full attention can accomplish, espicially if Tate Naoki, Shida Naotoshi and Kurita Shin'ichi return for key animation.

Be curious to see this when it comes out.
And just to say it as a note, I don't mind the Buu saga for a few reasons.
Even though the Cell and Androids stuff was far better in terms of story.

The Buu saga was all Toriyama's doing, so it would't make any sense for him to complain about it. DBGT however, was a diffenent story.Mythgarr wrote:Will Son Gohan be actually become what Toriyama has envisioned pre-Boo? And I'd welcome a new movie, as long as it has a decent story to go with the action. Most DBZ movies had subpar plots that almost always ended with Goku finishing the big baddie with a spirit bomb. I hope someone else, preferrably Gohan or Piccolo, gets more the limelight instead.

Well, the last special had Gotenks doing more fighting than anyone, even if Goku did steal the finisher (in a funny, perhaps "running-gag" sort of way).zerogradius wrote:The Buu saga was all Toriyama's doing, so it would't make any sense for him to complain about it. I fully support a new film. I will watch it, and probably enjoy it if its of the same quality as the special I just referenced. It would be nice to see more Gohan being cool, but I've come to expect him to be sidelined, so I won't be upset either way. I think a movie that retains the humor of the last special would be best, even if its more action oriented.

Re: New Dragon Ball Z Movie!
Well, it's been about 16 years since there have been any new dragonball material released so it would be nice if some new minds with fresh ideas came in to give us an all round good movie, but I have my doubts on that one. For me, DBZ is mostly about the fighting, and as long as that aspect holds up, I'll be watching.

Re: New Dragon Ball Z Movie!
well, there was the animated mini-episode-whatever-it-was with Tarble...
Re: New Dragon Ball Z Movie!
The thirty-three minute 2008 special Ossu! Kaette Kita Son Gokuu to Nakama-tachi!!, the thirty minute 2010 video game special Super Saiya-jin Zetsumetsu Keikaku, and the nineteen minute 2011 Episode of Bardock. The 2011 video game Dragon Ball Ultimate Blast also had thirty minutes of cut scenes re-enacting a few of the scenes from the story (with a gorgeous opening theme sequence).ShadowCell wrote:well, there was the animated mini-episode-whatever-it-was with Tarble...
There's been a little bit of new animation over the past few years, but still not enough for some of us.

Actually, Akira Toriyama, as much as fans hate to admit it, was satisfied with GT. He even did his own illustrations of characters/forms exclusive to GT and has said he thought it was a fine conclusion.zerogradius wrote: The Buu saga was all Toriyama's doing, so it would't make any sense for him to complain about it. I kind of doubt it, because if so why did he kind of put GT's status in cannon uncertain by the online MMO Dragonball game?Xenosynth wrote:Actually, Akira Toriyama, as much as fans hate to admit it, was satisfied with GT. Also I'm not fully content with GT overall, I would have rather he had done a continuation.
Re: New Dragon Ball Z Movie!
Well, I didn't like GT very much either honestly. He did do DBO, which is what he considers canonical, however, he did have some input with GT (He did the early character designs), and generally in interviews he doesn't seem to dislike it. I just meant that a lot of fans like to think he actively hated it, which is untrue xDMu La Flaga wrote:I kind of doubt it, because if so why did he kind of put GT's status in cannon uncertain by the online MMO Dragonball game?Xenosynth wrote:Actually, Akira Toriyama, as much as fans hate to admit it, was satisfied with GT. Re: New Dragon Ball Z Movie!
Dragon Ball doesn't have a 'canon'. This isn't Star Trek or Star Wars. A Korean company wanted to make an MMORPG. They wanted his help, he obliged with designs. Toriyama really doesn't care about any of it.Mu La Flaga wrote:I kind of doubt it, because if so why did he kind of put GT's status in cannon uncertain by the online MMO Dragonball game?Xenosynth wrote:Actually, Akira Toriyama, as much as fans hate to admit it, was satisfied with GT.
