[SPOILERS]Gundam UC novel and OVA 6&7 speculation

Post by balofo » Mon May 21, 2012 11:46 pm

HUGE SPOILERS!!!! BEWARE OF NOVEL SPOILERS!!!

I made this topic to discuss the remaining novel books(8,9 and 10) and to speculate on what will happen in the last 2 OVAs. Since I don't know Japanese I can't claim to know what exactly happened in the novels but I have a good idea of the remaining plot. I hope people that have read the novel can enlighten us on the details and make the year long wait less boring.

First the facts:
-We have 2 hours and some minutes of screen time to conclude the whole OVA story
-OVA 7 may extrapolate the 1 hour limit from previous episodes according to Fukui
-They intended since the start to modify the novel ending, if it's the rainbows magic or the anticlimactic final battle, we don't know.
-They intend to change Full Frontal's identity/origin.

*Plot
Book 8:
-Most people believe they are going to skip the whole L1 Junction/Zeon Republic Training ships/Nahel Argama takeover by Frontal since there isn't enough time to show it and books 9 and 10, that contain the ending and therefore need the most screen time.
-What happens in this book: Tristars sent to help the Tenembaum and Carrote Class ships that have been ambushed by Sinanju/Rozen Zulu. Ships are destroyed but the Tristars survive, Angelo finds the Garancieres but it's empty and explodes on his face(decoy), he and Frontal retreat. Tristar go back to the General Revil and meet Riddhe piloting the Banshee along Alberto. Somehow some Zeon Republic training ships are tailing the Nahel Argama(Zinnerman's contacted them?). Nahel arrives at the L1 junction and Banaji goes out in the RX-0 along Mineba. While receiving the next LA+ coordinates they are attacked by the Zeon Republic soldiers commanded by a named character riding a white Hizack Custom.
Frontal arrives and demands the Nahel to surrender so Mineba points a gun at Banaji and he has no choice. Frontal boards the Nahel and shows his face to everybody, reveals his plan(not sure it's now) and kills someone from the Nahel Argama(the fat engineer?). Meanwhile Takuya deactivates the ship's engine and Marida controls the Kshatryia funnels to disable the enemy MSes. ECOAS drives the royal guards away while Banaji kills the Hizack Custom pilot(not sure) and the Nahel's Hyper Mega Particle Cannon destroys the Zeon Republic ships and the L1 junction(?). Frontal escapes knowing the last LA+ coordinate, Industrial 7, and now every faction heads that way.

Book 9 and 10:
-The Tennyson fleet stands between the Nahel Argama path to Industrial 7, so Banaji launches in the FA Unicorn along Marida in the damaged Kshatrya. The Lotos, Rezel and Geara Zulus stay back to protect the ship. Banaji and Marida disable/destroy most of the fleet Kira style until the Tristars arrive and Angelo appears. The psyco jammer makes NT-D unusable so the Jestas try to destroy the bits, Watts piloting a Jesta Cannon sacrifices himself to free Banaji. Banaji fights Angelo, even uses the shields as reflector bits and tries to convince Angelo to give up. Angelo instead uses a claw to pierce his own cockpit due to Banaji seeing his past. Banaji runs into Frontal they fight a bit until Marida arrives to duel Frontal and sends Banaji foward. She has run out of funnels and the only way to defeat Frontal is using all 4 binders as makeshift explosive funnels. The plan works and she thinks she defeated him. Banaji runs into Riddhe they fight and have some drama with Mineba. Riddhe aims at the Nahel bridge but Marida takes the shot and dies. Banaji finally enters Industrial 7 along Mineba and heads to Siam chamber where the whole box ordeal is explained. Meanwhile Frontal is alive and sneaks into the Snail. Frontal and Banaji pipe/gun fight before returning to their MSes. Frontal is hurt and Banaji gets Gael's help to escape. Frontal kills Gael and heads in his half molten Sinanju to fight his last battle against Banaji. Riddhe arrives and they enact the last shooting scene, Banaji deems Frontal as having an empty soul and kills him with Sword of Rage(like in OVA 3). Meanwhile Martha was plotting to fire the Gryps Colony Laser to kill everyone. The laser is fired destroys the Rewolla and the 2 scorting Musakas but is stopped by both RX-0s Psyco Field. Then a whole EFF fleet arrives to stop the Mineba broadcast from the Snail, now a battleship. Cue rainbow magic destroying the fleet missiles and Bright arrests Martha. Banaji becomes one with the RX-0 but the novel ends as he decides to go back to Mineba. I believe Zinnerman becomes the captain of the Snail but no further epilogue for the other characters.

People like Deacon and flamingtroll, please feel free my incorrect assumptions and give the correct details if possible.

*Remaining novel MSes and possible surprise/upgraded MSes, ships:

Novel:
-Jesta Cannon:guaranteed to appear and get a HGUC(see normal version runners). Will need additional details added since those white armor parts are actually missile launchers, and the beam saber rack is unknown(small attached shield?). Will only Watts pilot one like the novel?
-Zssa, Gazown: Tennyson fleet MSes, following OVA 3 logic will definitely appear.
-Musaka: According to the new design it now has 3 barrel AA guns like the Rewola, 100% in.
-Musai Kai, Chibe Kai: appear in book 8. Musai also on book 9, guaranteed?
-Hizack, Hizack Custom: appear in book 8 in white colors. Don't think they'll appear
-Clop Class: unless the EFF gets some reinforcements for the final battle or to escort the General Revil.

OVA cameos, additions:
-Dreissen, Dra c, Geara Doga Range Bruno: low chance
-Jegan ECOAS: at least one survived, guaranteed
-Endra: Everyone hopes it gets some spotlight

Upgrades to existing suits:
-Unicorn is confirmed to get the FA pack. Funny thing since calubin said that the model text mentioned the FA being novel only, and the anime one would get a new upgrade. Perhaps that was the plan before OVA 7 was announced. I'm hoping for 2 Hyper Beam Javelins making the cut, they could be used as funnels along the shield or as a bayonet to the Beam Magnum.
-Kshatrya in the OVA is missing: 2 binders, an arm, a leg, almost all funnels, chest particle canon is damaged, cockpit armor, head is destroyed. In the novel it wasn't that damaged(according to the pic where it launches for the final battle) and gets 2x dual beam gatlings. I doubt the Garancieres carries that much spare parts, so we may see something interesting or she justs pilots the wrecked MS with minimal repairs and saves Banaji in the last minute or something.
-Sinanju: already got bazooka and it's still doomed to face at least 1 RX-0 green psycoframe unit. Frontal doesn't stand a chance at all if the final battle is the same as per novel(even without Kshatrya binder damage). Suggestions here? A new weapon(they got the beam magnum from Unicorn in OVA 3 and didn't give it back, hummm....), limiter removal on thusters, a nuke, a MA?
-Nahel's Rezel, Jegans and Geara Zulus: Defensor unit, stark pack, more random weapons for the Zulus?
-Banshee: since Riddhe can't at first use the NT-D mode, I doubt he's going to use the Armed Armors. Back to Beam Magnum, Bazooka, Shield. Or new Armed Armor/weapons?

UC-MSV:
-Doven Wolf: fan favorite, perhaps the most desired Zeon grunt to appear.
-Defensor A Unit: might appear in OVA 6, micromissiles please.

Surprise MS:
-I'm hoping for: Geara Doga Kai, Zeta Plus C, Re GZ Custom, Zaku III(with new pack), MP Nu(why not), Bawoo. Any of these would make me happy along the Doven Wolf.

That's it, I wanna hear your opinions on the future of the Gundam UC OVAs, story and mecha wise.

I guess I don't have much to say pertaining to your question as I still haven't seen Episode 5 and only just learnt(from reading your post) that there'll be an Episode 7. That's puts me a little at ease as I was a little concerned that they had only 2 hours left to finish a story that seemed as though it needed more time to conclude satisfactorily.

From your synopsis book 10 sounds terrible. I can't judge it too harshly without having read it, but I'd imagine in an animated episode one fight after another (FA deployment > Angelo fight > Marida vs Full Frontal > Riddhe vs Banagher) would be quite odd pacing.

Book 8 on the other hand sounds quite interesting. I'm sure the LI Junction will be cut; that's obvious just on Banagher comment to Bright ("that place will become a battlefield again") But I wouldn't be too surprised if we got the boarding scene from book 8, with Episode 5's cliffhanger. Besides, does book 10 need two episodes?

Also, this is a stab in the dark, but I wouldn't be surprised if they gave FF a new MS altogether for the final battle. With Unicorn being Sunrises primary gundam success right now I'm guessing they'll want to milk it for some more model kits.

Thanks for the summaries balofo. Would you kindly post any summaries of Vol.4(Palau) to Vol.7(Black Unicorn)?

If the FA Unicorn is going to debut earlier in Episode 6, then chances are it would have an original "final form" for the OVA version. So hence that's why the GFF FA Unicorn said it was the "final form" for the novel version.

There may be a third Unicorn variant, upgraded from either Unit 01 or Unit 02 as hinted in the MG Banshee manual, but then it might just remain in the blueprints.

Doven Wolf is surely to appear, at least in the Tennyson Fleet even if it is just for a brief second just like the Nemo 3 and ReZEL Defensor B. If they do implement more Bande Desinee cameos, then a non-Angelo colored Krake Zulu is likely as well.

At the moment the OVA is obviously an adaptation decay, while I see Bande Desinee as more of an expanded adaptation of the novel(not the anime)to the likes of The Origin and Zeta Define. I hope Bande Desinee doesn't butcher the earth arc and follows more closely to the novel plot.

I think the Palau battle is almost the same as per OVA, but like in Bande Desinee Angelo fights Riddhe then Banaji arrives to help(I believe this scene is like the one in the OVA with the Geara Doga). The Laplace station is almost the same, but during the battle Gael piloting a EWAC Zack has an encounter with Banaji to tell him something(in the OVA it was Gilboa instead) and then Gael sneaks the Nahel and kills some people but spares Alberto(don't know the actual context of this scene) and lets him kidnap Marida.

Book 6: Marida had knocked out Riddhe and then captured Banaji after Dakar, Bright had the conversation with Banaji stationed at Torrington. Zinnerman rallies the Zeon Remants same as OVA, but this time they only have like 9 MSes and the attack is a carbon copy of the theft of the GP-02(they start firing missiles at Fuel tanks and hangars, the close combat MSes rape the Nemos, GM IIs and the 2 Guncannon detectors while Kirks and his second in command in a Zaku Cannon snipe the Ra Calium landing gear so it can't launch the Jestas because of the AA artillery of the own ship). Remember that scene in 0083 where a Dom Tropen slices a Zaku II in half with heat saber, it plays exactly the in the novel. Eventually Bright lets Banaji go, Riddhe has a brief fight with him but Zinnerman piloting a Dodai Kai arrives and leaves with RX-0 towards the Garuda. Before this Marida arrives and Beam Magnum's Kirks and his friend allowing the Jestas to finish the remaining Zeons.

Book 7: RX-0 riding the Dodai Kai attacks the Garuda along the Garencieres with a turret Geara Zulu. Banshee fights riding an Ankusha while Zinnerman sneaks the Garuda, first he deactivates the ships armaments and then goes to save Mineba and Marida. Convincing Marida is a long process, Riddhe arrives and gets friendzoned as per OVA, while Banaji FIGHTS the Banshee and the Ankushas(I believe even Riddhe gets to kill an Ankusha). Mineba freefall is the same, Unicorn and Banshee actually DESTROY the Garuda due to the Psyco Field, but Zinnerman finally convinces Marida and they escape from the collapsing Garuda. Before they can get to the Garancieres that fat guy from the Garancieres that was piloting the Dodai kamikazes himself on an Ankusha allowing them to escape. Oh and when Marida left the Banshee an Ankusha fired at her knocking her out before Banaji kills him. Atmospheric escape was the same. Also Riddhe saved Alberto from the collapsing Garuda inside the Delta Plus cockpit, then Riddhe sees the unmanned Banshee being saved by an Ankusha.

As you can see from OVA 4 the novel is MUCH MORE epic, the Dakar battle was the highest point. Blame Bandai executives for this

Other cool thing from the novel: the Ra Cailum had a full complement of 12 Jestas, including an EWAC one, I believe all of them end up on the General Revil later.

But for we to get EFF new MSes they'll need to alter the last battles since only the Tristars participate in them, but I think it's highly probable. Imagine a REGZ Custom battling a Doven Wolf in glorious animation!

***Looks like they are gonna skip the L1 Junction arc, it was the only logic solution. OVA's next LA+ location: Industrial 7!

Since this seems to be the place about to speculation about Unicorn, I like to voice an idea I've been wondering about recently. Do you think that by changing the novel's ending for the anime, Sunrise may retcon Gundam F91 and Victory Gundam out of UC Gundam's continuity? Because otherwise, the whole point of this conflict and Laplace's Box is going to get kind of underminding.

I doubt it, since Fukui is a Hathaway Flash's fan and main point of the novel was to describe the final Zeon movement before the UC 100 extinction of the Zeon Republic(this date was set before UC). Neo Zeon had the Rewola and all those Musakas, besides the remains of Haman's Neo Zeon and the Remnants on Earth; so they had some firepower and Fukui made use of it in the novel. Also the main plan of the guy who created Full Frontal was to somehow keep the Zeon Republic alive for more time. The box could also serve as a rallying point for future spacenoid movements like the Crossbone Vanguard, Zanscare, Jupiter Empire and even Mafty, but as a retroactive retcon.

Well it also had a lot to do with Banshee firing its beam magnum indiscriminately and the melee fights between Unicorn and Banshee on top of the Garuda that damaged most of its engines and Zinnerman sabotaging the ship. Unlike the OVA, Banagher was having a tough time against Banshee. He was almost killed if Zinnerman did not intervene and distracted Marida with the speech. It was Besson that died on the Dodai. He didn't kamikaze though, it just got blown up after dropping off Unicorn by the pursuing Ankusha. The Ankushas themselves were quite a threat too that Banagher was suprised that he didn't "feel them" coming through the clouds. If my quick read-through didn't miss anything, I think all the Ankushas were shot down by Banshee, which was kinda funny. I was almost hoping for an Asshimar punch by one of them on the Delta plus in the OVA, but alas Buran would have to roll in his grave.

I think the EWAC Jegan we saw in that UC game probably was taken from the supposed EWAC Jesta. The entire head unit looked more like a Jesta than a Jegan

People keep talking about Sunrise retconning Gundam shows as though that's something that they've ever done. Note: they haven't, and anyone who says the Zeta movies did so to ZZ is lying or misinformed. Yes, whatever Unicorn's OVA ending is is ultimately pointless due to F91 and V. However, the same is true of the endless stream of OYW OVAs. None of them retcon the existence of Zeta, and the end result is always Zeon's defeat, but that hasn't stopped Sunrise from making more and more side stories.

before anyone brings it up: G-Saviour has not been retconned, it's just ignored, and Sunrise would much prefer you pretend it never happened.

Aces with me, I pretend it never happened too. :)

Back to Unicorn, I was a little surprised that they wouldn't stop by Loum or the Republic of Zeon before everything came to a head.

They may well do; the novel references in this thread mention an "L1 Junction" as a location - Lagrange Point 1 is the home of the former Side 5 - better known as Loum.

With the L1 Junction arc likely being removed, do you guys think the subplot about The Republic of Zeon supporting the Sleeves will remain in the anime? Did the ROZ participate in the Industrial 7 battle, as they did with the L1 Junction arc?

ROZ only appear in book 8, so unless they are reinforcements for the Industrial 7 battle...

Now regarding the possible 3rd RX-0 unit commented by calubin, I think the Banshee with armed armor silhouette refers to the Riddhe Custom version and not a 3rd unit, unless the japanese text refers clearly to a 3rd RX-0 unit.
