Toonami is back... was it a one night stand?

So I was up tonight and what do I see on Cartoon network but Tom and "toonami" anyone else see this? Personally I feel this is a cruel April fools joke... :/

Tom just said they are going to play DBZ and Gundam wing after Bleach... I gotta see this.

*edit* OMG just saw the Gundam blow itself up on tv! No joke this is legit.

*edit 2* still going on but i need to sleep did anyone else have a wonderful night?

I came home at 3 and caught some of it. I was in shock so I checked TV guide and no info was provided. What does this mean? Was it a one night thing? I hope they do it next weekend!

Best April Fool's gag ever. Even if it was only for one night, it was nice seeing the likes of DBZ, Gundam Wing, Tenchi Muyo, and Outlaw Star on my actual TV screen being broadcast instead of on my computer or a DVD I own.

Re: Toonami is back... was it a one night stand?

I did not have cable/satellite, but a friend gave me a stream to watch and talk with others, I think it was nice to see it again, people are calling it "The bang of Toonami 2012" I think it was just nice to watch it again, I think the nice thing was after the shows, they would promote the DVDs, it was funny as most of those titles were ADV or other companies, and now they are FUNimation. Check out Toonami on Twitter.

Chris, if you are out on the interwebs does the return of toonami, even for one night, mean the end is nigh?

I know Cartoon Network/Adult Swim has been master trolls when it comes to anime, but this tweet 's still worth checking out:

If they do bring it back, I hope its not as the Cartoon Network Anime Nostalgia Hour. Hopefully they'll show new stuff like Gundam 00 and Fairy Tail and stuff.

I agree with Arbiter if they bring it back it wont be just the old shows. It shouldn't be, nostalgia will only go so far. This week has been a toonami Renaissance, to be honest I have thought about it quite a bit since last Saturday. :D

Given all the legal streaming options from so many outlets, why on earth do you all want Toonami back? And please don't give me something colored by nostalgia.

Re: Toonami is back... was it a one night stand?

Well I enjoy watching things on Tv also the bumps and tom were awesome. Tv didnt kill radio if I remember correctly and adult swim is still on the air even though anime is streaming.

On a separate note is it a good thing Funimation retweetted:

Want it back? Let us know. #BringBackToonami

They were the ones who sent out a message on Mar. 31st saying:

Hey, what's happening on @AdultSwim tonight? #anime

I hope (ill be a hoper and dreamer for now) that its a good sign. But I also have the feeling that if it comes back it will be showing mostly Funimation stuff ( not a bad thing but it does look like they are working together. AKA the "buy the dvds!" message after every show they showed). Although I admit this is speculation and this whole thing might be a giant prank...

Re: Toonami is back... was it a one night stand?

If nothing else, bringing back Toonami would introduce new fans to anime. I mean, the whole reason the block was so popular in the first place was because it aired at a time when kids were coming back from school. You came home, watched Dragonball Z / Gundam Wing and then did your homework. There are plenty of new anime which Toonami could air, they need not rely on nostalgia. Fairy Tail comes to mind for example. They could continue Naruto Shippuden from where Disney left off and airing 5 episodes a week like the old days would allow them to quickly catch up. They could continue One Piece from where they left off. Heck, there is currently no legal way to watch Gundam AGE here in the states so they could air that as well. There really is no shortage of new material for Toonami to air should Cartoon Network choose to bring it back. There is no need to rely on nostalgia.

Re: Toonami is back... was it a one night stand?

for me I want Toonami back, but I want the old shows with the new ones, streaming is okay but generally I am more likely to watch something in my living room than on my laptop. Plus Toonami's feeling, like the bumps and the way it showcased stuff was really appealing, and saturday's comeback showed me it wasn't nostalgia, it is still good fun to watch.

The new shows they could might really just be Funimation, as they seem to be more likely to get there stuff on a block that is really well known, and Bandai USA pretty much dead, Funimation has a big enough backlog to put stuff up, and like the new Last Exile, Fairy Tail and and maybe Dothack. But again it needs to get new shows along with old shows.

Yeah, I also wouldn't mind some of the old shows along with the new ones. I was just addressing Chris's concern that our desire to have Toonami make a return was being blinded by nostalgia.
