Gundam in general is not all that bloody, but if you want a show that leaves a big pile of corpses at the end, Victory is probably what you want.
Just be prepared for bipolar shifts in the show's tone. One minute it's wacky madcap comedy hijinks, the next minute everyone is standing around somebody's body looking sad.
is there any violent/gory, and gritty mecha anime?

Can't remember any outright gore in V Gundam, but what you don't see is even more effective...TetraVaal wrote:in terms of body count, or is it actually bloody and gritty?

If you want downright bleak, Victory Gundam is your best bet.

It's not exactly bloody or gory at all (it's not a Gundam thing to be graphic, only on rare occasions), but more along the lines of body count by the end of the series. V Gundam has a dark tone throughout the show and people die left and right. Not going to spoil too much here, but V Gundam has the most named character deaths out of any Gundam series thus far I believe...TetraVaal wrote:in terms of body count, or is it actually bloody and gritty?Sume Gai wrote:V Gundam may be a bit closer to what you want though.

V is never bloody, but it has many unpleasant deaths...mainly involving beam sabres through cock pits.
Turn A has the wonderfully unhappy death and off screen gore of Will Game.
Ideon has a quite a few violent kiddy deaths.
All of the above have harrowing death sequences but its rare to see really bloody, pulp filled scenes in most mecha anime.... just lots of unpleasant scenes.

Bubblegum Crisis has been a pleasant surprise so far.
not only gritty and at times gory, but the cyberpunk theme makes me very happy as well.
God, I wish they'd start making more mecha anime like this again.

its not mecha in anyway at all but one of the goriest(sp) animes of all gantz, the anime leaves off to soon compared to the manga though wich is still goin and some time next year there will be a live action movie based on the manga

to the user that suggested Guyver... is the Bio-boosted armour series gory at all? I've heard that it's not as gory as the original OAVs, but if there's still an adequate amount of bloodshed, I might check out the new-er series.

No, the recent TV series isn't as gorey, but there's still a decent amount of blood and violence, certainly more than your average action anime.TetraVaal wrote:to the user that suggested Guyver... is the Bio-boosted armour series gory at all? nice, I'll still give it a shot.
alright, one last question in regards to Appleseed... I saw a couple trailers for both films, and while it seems like a "glossy", colorful film compared to the gritty style I'm aiming for, I did see both films are R rated, while I don't expect an abundance of gore, is there still any bloodshed in those films?

Re: is there any violent/gory, and gritty mecha anime?
Appleseed is not very gritty as far as I can recall but yeah, it is pretty glossy. In the beginning there is a bit of blood to go about, but again it's an anime movie that doesn't bring the adjectives "bloody", "gritty" or "gory" first and foremost into mind when you think about it. But then again I am talking about this one and haven't seen the 1984 one.
So... yeah. Whatever floats yet boat.

yeah, the glossy, colorfull look doesn't bother me in this regard, as it has a euphoric/cyberpunk feel to it, which I am an absolute sucker for.
since there's at least a bit of blood, I'll watch it. I was going to get around to watching Appleseed regardless, though... I like the visual style I saw from the trailers.
