Listen, not a year goes by, not a year, that I don't hear about some escalator accident involving some bastard kid which could have easily been avoided had some parent - I don't care which one - but some parent conditioned him to fear and respect that escalator.

Re: Andrew W.K. and Gundam??
I can say that he did Soldiers of Sorrow quite well. I can't get that song off my mind ever since constantly hearing it in every Jaburo level I've played in a Gundam game.
But yeah, since the lyrics are in English, the pacing of the songs is somewhat timed incorrectly. But either way, I liked Gundam Rock. If only he and Richie Kotzen grouped up and did this soundtrack; Kotzen's guitar work could have boosted Gundam Rock's awesomeness.
Either way, Andrew W.K. earns my respect for being a Gundam fan.
EDIT: Was a topic for this made already?

At least it's better than "Gotta fly away, gotta fly away, gotta fly away, Gandamuuu"
Edit: Actually, on second thought, I liked Richie Kotzen's covers more.

Soldiers of Sorrow is pretty great, I can't really get into his other cover songs though. Char Ga Kuru just doesn't feel right in English to me.
His opening dialouge about the One Year War is pretty sweet though. He's got a cool voice.
I feel bad talking about his odd word choices and pacing in some songs, since wasn't this album meant for a Japanese audience? Kinda seems unfair. I mean, some of the word choices he uses seems kinda strange (here comes Char is pretty rough, would the Japanese really mind lyrics in another language sounding kinda odd? I mean, i've listened to J-pop and J-rock, where if the word usage was odd i'd have no way of noticing.

I was hoping for more....rock in an album called Gundam Rock. Needs more guitar.

Sweet!

I have Richie Kotzen's "Soldiers of Sorrow" and am going to have to get this.
Personally, if faced with "Here Comes Char", I probably would reword it to "Char Approaches" or, if I didn't think people would freak about it, "The Red Comet Approaches".

Or better yet, "Char is Coming." =P
He does a pretty good version of Gihren Zabi's speech at Garma's funeral, too.

Re: Andrew W.K. and Gundam??
I checked this out due to a morbid curiosity, but I was floored. Soldiers of Sorrow and Encounter are both actually quite good. Much better than Kotzen's Gundam stuff.

Re: Andrew W.K. and Gundam??
WK's covers are a step down from Kotzen's for the most part, although WK does manage to edge past him in a few tracks. Then again, it might not be entirely fair to compare them. Kotzen took some liberties here and there in the interest of pragmatism, while WK's songs are more direct adaptations. (I suspect WK didn't have quite as much wiggle room, with it being the 30th anniversary collection.)
If nothing else, I have to say WK did a wonderful job with "Amuro Forever."
I just wish Kotzen and WK hadn't felt compelled to throw in "Gundamu." It sounds a little silly in an otherwise English song.

It would also be dropping a very noticeable beat in the song.Imperial wrote:I just wish Kotzen and WK hadn't felt compelled to throw in "Gundamu." It sounds a little silly in an otherwise English song.
Re: Andrew W.K. and Gundam??
I used to be a big fan of Andrew WK back when i was drunken violent party animal. It's kinda surreal to hear that he's doing gundam music. It just doesn't sound right, a man who's created such epic masteries as 'Party Hard', 'Party till you puke' and the earth shattering mega hit 'she's so beautiful' just sounds out of place singing songs like this.
Awesome tho, it just seems wrong to me is all. \m/_ _\m/

I think of the songs he and Kotzen did, Kotzen did them better. I loved the "original stuff" such as Star Child, and Char The Great

Re: Andrew W.K. and Gundam??
I'm not a follower of Andrew WK's music, though he did catch my attention when he got mainstream coverage a few years ago. I like his music and seeing that he did a Gundam cover album definitely makes me a want to learn more about his music.

Re: Andrew W.K. and Gundam??
I got this album thinking that it look would be funny to hear english words for these songs. Star Children, the Opening Narration, Encounter are very good songs that came out nice. The stand out song in the whole album is Soldiers of Sorrow, that is such a awesome remix of the song that I could listen to that song and never get tired of it. Gihren Zabi' Speech had some very good passion to it as well. Overall it is a good piece of music for gundam fans.
