Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
Quite complex...
On light side, since only MX has Burke's style profile, large number of profile can be done with just minor tweak. It's a little more complicate, but still managable for classic timeline mech like Gespenst.
The real headache will be LoE, as its events is canon to both classic timeline and OG.

Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
Well, there's an easy solution for that problem. We're going to have duplicate profiles with whatever changes are necessary between universes, as is the case now for the Patlabor section.

Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
Well the SNES version goes with the classic while the DS/PSP version goes with the OG timeline, I'd think. Or are there no major differences between the two?Kuruni wrote:The real headache will be LoE, as its events is canon to both classic timeline and OG.

Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
Plot-wise, no. There are few about mech's spec, as SNES's animation sometime suggest different nature of some attacks, but nothing beyond that.

Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
Well, lets start with something that should clear some issues from my mind. Here are 4 versions of Cybuster (still miss the anime version).
Cybuster (classic timeline)
(Appearances: 2, 2G, 3, EX, 4, F, F Final, LoE)
(image for this version*)
Unit type: transformable elemental lord robot
Height: 28.48 meters
Length: 35.0 meters (Cybird mode)
Weight: 74.2 metric tons**
Armor material: Orichalconium
Equipments: spirit dependency link, self-regeneration system, Prana converter
Armament: Zephyr sword x 1, Vanity Ripper***, caloric missile, high familiar x 2
Special attacks: Cyflash, Akashic Buster, Cosmo Nova, Ranbu no Tachi
Pilot: Masaki Andoh
Mechanical designer: Junichi Moriya
Cybuster (Alpha version)
(Appearances: Alpha, Alpha Gaiden*EDIT*)
Unit type: transformable elemental lord robot
Height: 28.48 meters
Length: 35.0 meters (Cybird mode)
Weight: 38.4 metric tons
Armor material: Orichalconium
Equipments: Laplace's demon computer, spirit dependency link, Prana converter
Armament: Zephyr sword x 1, caloric missile x 2****, high familiar x 2
Special attacks: Cyflash, Akashic Buster, Cosmo Nova, Ranbu no Tachi
Pilot: Masaki Andoh, Xenia Grania Bilseia
Mechanical designer: Junichi Moriya
Cybuster (GBA OG version*****)
(Appearances: OG, OG2 LoE)
Unit type: transformable elemental lord robot
Height: 28.48 meters
Length: 35.0 meters (Cybird mode)
Weight: 38.4 metric tons
Armor material: Orichalconium
Equipments: Laplace's demon computer, spirit dependency link, self-regeneration system, Prana converter
Armament: Zephyr sword x 1, caloric missile, high familiar x 2
Special attacks: Cyflash, Akashic Buster, Cosmo Nova
Pilot: Masaki Andoh
Mechanical designer: Junichi Moriya
Cybuster (OGs version)
(Appearances: OGs, OG Gaiden, 2nd OG, LoE, RoE)
Unit type: transformable elemental lord robot
Height: 28.48 meters
Length: 35.0 meters (Cybird mode)
Weight: 38.4 metric tons
Armor material: Orichalconium
Equipments: Laplace's demon computer, spirit dependency link, self-regeneration system, Prana converter
Armament: Zephyr sword x 1, Vanity Ripper x 2, caloric missile x 2, high familiar x 2
Special attacks: Cyflash, Akashic Buster, Cosmo Nova, Ranbu no Tachi, Shinten Ranbu no Tachi
Pilot: Masaki Andoh
Mechanical designer: Junichi Moriya
* I think it look quite different to current version, which use in Alpha and OG, but I would leave you to judge that.
** This old weight seem to retconed as "Full weight" now, while liight weight from Alpha and OG are "Empty weight". But again, I would leave you to judge that.
*** I assume that Vanity Ripper is alway another sword, but LoE's lack of animation fail to show it.
**** In Alpha, caloric missile shoot missile like classic timeline and GBA OG1&2 but I assume that Alpha Gaiden is corrected version, where it shoot beam projectiles like OGs.
On the timeline, I assume that calssic, Alpha and GBA OG1&2 versions are based on old SFC The Lord of the Elemental, while current OGs version is based on remake and Revelation of Evil God (for these two now has OG Saga in title).
Relate to above, I don't list Vanity Ripper in Alpha & GBA OG version's armaments since Cybuster's plot supposely end in those timeline with Alpha Gaiden/OG2, and it doesn't appear yet.
*EDIT* Silly me. Consider that Mio and Presia already got Zamzeed and Diablo in Alpha Gaiden, while EX story doesn't occur yet. It look like Terada threated LoE as source for adaption back then.

I still find it astounding that aside from the standard game continuities, the Original Generations universe has three of its own continuities that have to be addressed.
OG1 > OG2 > OG The Animation
OG: Divine Wars > OG: The Inspector
OGs > OGG > 2ndOG
For crying out loud, Terada, what are you doing?

It actually says "Air Christmas" right there next to it.

Okay, thanks and fixed.
Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
Actually, from everything I've read/seen, the continuity goes more like this:Strike Zero wrote:I still find it astounding that aside from the standard game continuities, the Original Generations universe has three of its own continuities that have to be addressed.
OG1 > OG2 > OG The Animation
OG: Divine Wars > OG: The Inspector
OGs > OGG > 2ndOG
For crying out loud, Terada, what are you doing?
OG/Gameboy Advance Timeline: OG1 -> OG2 -> OG OVA
OGs/Next Gen Timeline: OGs -> OGG (w/ alternate version of OVA) -> 2nd OGs (w/ elements of The Inspector retconned in, like Lee's role)
Anime Timeline: Divine Wars -> The Inspector
BTW, I have two questions regarding these profiles.
1) Are we deliberately avoiding references to anime mecha in these profiles, IE how the Excellence was inspired by the Aestivalis series' modular frames and the original Gundam's Core Fighter?
2) Are we using the names from the Atlus localization of OG1 and 2, or just translating the original Japanese names ourselves? For the sake of argument, I'll include the Atlus names in brackets.
Now for a little more, here's a bunch of scans I got from the Dengeki Robo official book for 2nd OGs:

Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
1.) Well I've only done one section so we only have that as referenceAmuroNT1 wrote:BTW, I have two questions regarding these profiles.

2.) Yes, we use Atlus names for things that have them.

Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
Regarding the names, I notice (just as a for-instance) that MAHQ uses "Zankantou" for Sanger's sword, as opposed to the Atlus translation "Colossal Blade". But I suppose final say goes to the guy in charge.
Another question occurs: How to handle plot-critical non-appearances? The biggest example IMO is the Gespenst Mk-III - AKA Alteisen. It of course originates in Impact, but the Mk-III is known to exist in both the Alpha timeline (where it inspired Wild Wurger) and Advance (as Axel's rival from his home dimension), but never puts in an actual appearance. In these cases, would the Mk-III get profiles in the Alpha and Advance sections, or not? And if so, would those profiles use the Alteisen's lineart and data or no? If not, I imagine the information blurb would have to mention that it's the Alpha/Advance/whatever equivalent of Alt.

Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
I forget why we use zankantou. There are some other stuff we don't follow Atlus exactly on, like R-Gun's Metal Genocider.
Only things that physically appear in the title get profiles.
My biggest question is how the heck we're supposed to handled multiple timelines in a single game. MX wasn't too bad since I could just use "The other Tsentr project unit", and with OG Ryuusei's route is confirmed canon, but the only other title I could do profiles for, J, varies wildly based on which protagonist you pick and which unit you pick.

Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
I don't feel it should be that big of an issue. No matter which character you pick, the story will always follow the same basic progression of events, so its just a matter of keeping the profiles general enough that it can apply to both Touya and Calvina's stories.Destiny_Gundam wrote:but the only other title I could do profiles for, J, varies wildly based on which protagonist you pick and which unit you pick.
And seeing as how the profiles are supposed to be mostly about the mechs anyhow, my thinking would be to write about each of them as though the others didn't even exist. Unless, of course, the robots that the player doesn't choose do exist (like in Alpha and Z), in which case it would make the most sense to write about each as if they were selected as the main robot.
Yet another option would be to write the profiles from a meta perspective. i.e. "If Bellezute is selected as the main robot...", etc.

Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
The Vorlent and the Raftclans would be the main issue, as they're used by both the protagonist and the Fury.
Personally this is the route I'd like to take.Strike Zero wrote:Yet another option would be to write the profiles from a meta perspective. i.e. "If Bellezute is selected as the main robot...", etc.

Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
If doing that makes it easier, go ahead, without getting too meta about the games. And if references to non-SRW anime can't be avoided in some profiles, let's go ahead and put them in as necessary.
Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
You guys can put the differing profiles in separate paragraphs under headers for the corresponding universes.
Re: Super Robot Wars Mk 2
Well, then there's the other issue, which got mentioned earlier: how to handle story routes in games where there's no confirmed canon. With Alpha 1, you have a choice of two out of eight characters and can go Super or Real as you wish; however, since out of those choices only Kusuha, Bullet, and Ryukouoh/Koryuoh show up in subsequent Alpha games, they can be assumed to be the canon choices.
But then we have Advance, in which you have two heroes with four mecha choices between them. We know what they went with for OG, but what about Advance? Who can say whether we had Silly Axel palling around with the Dragonar Team in his Ashsaber, or Yoda-Lamia helping Kouji Kabuto and friends fight off the Myceneans with Angelg? How do you write a mecha profile when you aren't really sure what happened?
The ideas I've got:
1) Just cover the technical information of each mecha, not bothering with the historical info.
2) Give every profile the appropriate historical write-up, but include a disclaimer saying that there's no defined canon for the game and this is simply what happens if you choose to use said robot.
I think we'll probably end up having to do something like #2, even for situations like Alpha 1, since over there we have things like the Huckebein Boxer and Gunner, which were trumped out by the RKO/KRO but still exist in the Alpha-verse.
