Watch Big O then.Recon 5 wrote:I don't know why I'm the only one bothered by this, but I feel that grand resolutions are becoming somewhat cliche, especially in mecha anime. Regardless of how neatly all the plot threads are tied in the end, the fact is that tying them all (or trying to, at least) is something that has been done over and over again. In fact, before the rise of post- modernism (and Evangelion), the only time things weren't tied was when a certain work got discontinued for whatever reason.
People have got to make more shows with fully open- ended conclusions or which end with a lot of unanswered questions. Its the only horse out there that hasn't been beaten beyond death. Sure, most might say that it leaves one feeling 'empty', or that there's 'something missing', but when an ambiguous end is well- written its refreshing to say the least.

I'm very well aware of the ending of Big O. Its one of the reasons (besides the outstanding dub, but thats irrelevant) that series is one of my personal favorites. My point is that shows which end like that are still rare enough to be a lot refreshing than most of the recent animes which attempt to squish all the answers in at the end.
Mind you, I'm not against grand and absolutely final endings provided they're done well- VOTOMS being a good example, but just look at DESTINY and you'll see what happens when too many threads end at once.

Yes Big-O was great but the fact that it ubruptly ended without musch closier upset me. While you're right endings like that are rare their is a reason for it.

I don't get DESTINY as an example at all. The series, by itself (not counting FINAL PLUS or the SEs) ends very abruptly with hardly any resolution for anything.Recon 5 wrote:Mind you, I'm not against grand and absolutely final endings provided they're done well- VOTOMS being a good example, but just look at DESTINY and you'll see what happens when too many threads end at once.

Consider me a fan of Saji, if only for Soul Bro's undying advocacy for his "main man" in the podcasts.
I get the feeling Saji may and up as Setsuna's advisary in the second season. Mr. I-hate-Gundams-for-ruining-my-life vs. Mr. I-AM-Gundam seem like an obvious match up for the future.
Faith may have them cross paths/roads again, with both having a heavy cross to bear.[/punmode]
I like to have some closure at the the end of a story, where at least the major arc has come to nice conclusion.
IMO very open endings have a habit of not being particularly good in most cases and give the feeling of story ending mid-sentence, which I do not like, unless it's intentionally made to lead into a sequel.

My thoughts as well.Chris wrote:You have got to be in the extreme minority on this, because most people hate that kind of anime. Personally, I don't like to have everything tied up neatly in a bow for me at the end, but I can't stand a show that ends with "a lot of unanswered questions." Many anime end abruptly anyway with a lack of resolution in many aspects, so why would you want MORE of it?

valid points. personally, it depends on the show, how it started, to have an opinion on how it ended for me.
i will admit, at first, i hated saji, but, he has gotten a little better, i mean, i can relate to him in the fact that i have lost a family member too.
so, i kinda like saji, after all, he could be worse, right?
sorry if i have offended anyone here.

Now that I know it's confermed that Saji's sister is dead (just watched 21). I went on a massacare. She was avenged in the blood of hundreds of Grunts, Brutes, and Jackels.

My thing with Saji has been a love-hate-love. i liked him at first because he provided view of the average person while all these changes in the world were occurring. Then with Louise and her mother, i hated him cause he truly did nothing. Then after the loses he has suffered recently i cant help but feel sry for him.

holy h^ll!! nice. same here honestly, 'cept for the fact that there were no brutes, just hunters, elites, grunts, jackels, sentinals, and the ever so annoying flood.

He still has a chance to be a very important character, but right now saji is just going through a natural mourning period. he might just go from there of a revenge campain.

Well, he is showing much hate, but after what happened in 22, its hard speculate on his future role.Areus wrote:Its official Saji hates the gundams. His role in ep22 was very small but supports all theory that hes gonna be a good guy counter gundam character.

Although this is more about Ali than Saji, this blog of one of our listener's, Setsuna F. Darkness, is a hilarious review of ep. 22.Areus wrote:Its official Saji hates the gundams. His role in ep22 was very small but supports all theory that hes gonna be a good guy counter gundam character.

And he's right, Ali has been pulling "Yazans" left and right (remember poor Saegusa from ZZ?). I have a strange that my man Saji just might have his hatred for the Gundams manipulated by Ali in the second season, if things play out the way I'm speculating.
This season finale is going to be off the hook, for certain. Tell your children.

Well all we need now is someone to photoshop a picture of Ali punching/stomping captain bright, and his induction into the evil gundam character hall of fame will be complete.Soul Bro Ryu wrote:Although this is more about Ali than Saji, this blog of one of our listener's, Setsuna F. Though back on subject, I like saji's new disposition toward the gundams. The whole "Go to hell gundams" comment was priceless. It's nice to see that saji has grown some balls, and now that his sis is done for it makes me believe he will do something crazy and detrimental to his health that will pretty much end up screwing up a celestial being mission by making setsuna randomly jump out of his gundam to save him for no particular reason. Hilariousness ensues, ect, ect
Whether he becomes a pilot, goes into his sister's footsteps as a reporter, tries to get his girl back, or just sits on the couch all day cursing the gundams, I'm really going to enjoy seeing saji's character development from this point on in the series.
P.S. Louise is the most non Spaniard looking Spaniard I've ever seen. Don't really care that much, but enough to point it out
