Not sure if this idea was passed around (or already covered), but....

How about something on the Super Robot Wars franchise and how that series has brought together so many different series and made something enjoyable. For example, how has the choice of altering canon storylines to advance gameplay (e.g., Alpha 3 giving you the chance to save SEED's Mwu La Flaga or SRW W creating a time-skip version of Nadesico's Gai Daigouji (sp)?) affected how people view certain series?

The Last episode was quite enjoyable. Something I wouldn't mind hearing discussed would be how you feel mech series have progressed thematically, scientifically, and how characters in them a evolved over the years.

Do you feel there are times when Gundam could stand to be a little more or a little less real?

In other words, does Gundam sometimes stretch the suspension of disbelief a little too far?

Here's one,

components of a series, suits characters episodes or otherwise that played no significant role and were essentially filler.

Great show by the way.

It might be cool to have a review of a mecha series/movie/OAV (gundam or otherwise) for each episode. Perhaps even a spotlight on a particular creator/director/mecha designer.

So far, I've updated the first post in this thread as well as the thread for the current episode. When Chris returns from his vacation, I'll let him know to place it in the Gundamn! section on the main site as well.

BTW, dig your podcast, man. Nice to be speaking with a pro in the field. Gotta lot to learn. ^_^

Liked the new episode, about your segment on Newtypes, General Rveil never struck me as being a potential Newtype he just seemed to be one of the few people that could see their potential, but didn't necessarily understand what they are. Other than that, I agree with some of your incites on the subject personally I always saw Newtypes as people who had natural talent or ability to adapt to their environment which allowed them to thrive where Oldtypes could not.

Something you pointed out in the Mailbag segment seems to be that Gundam 00 marks the generation gap for fans of the franchise the older fans appreiciate the serious tone of the show and slower pace at which it tells its story, while the younger fans perhaps like flashier, pop, style of Gundam Seed/Destiny. Personally, 00 has washed the bad taste Destiny left in my mouth and so far has redeemed the franchise. A discussion of what the current generation of fans want out of Gundam or mecha anime in general, as opposed to the older fans could topic in of itself. Anyways, keep doing what you do man!

Gen. Revil's newtype potential seemed more apparent to me in the MSG novel. If you ever get a chance, check it out.

Well, I was ecstatic to hear the use of my suggestion covering the nature of Newtypes! :D Interesting take on not just the human and moral character of Newtypes, but even the biology. You look at how Scirocco had purple eyes, something that can be somewhat explained considering the radiation of Jupiter.

I also liked the fact that you guys stayed away from trying to define Newtypes in a definitive way. If you had, it would have killed the idea and made it seem dogmatic. The fact various people on these boards disagree on the nature of Newtypes just shows the way they are a thing that each person and generation must define for themselves--in other words, what does it mean for each generation to understand humanity and humankind in a deeper way than normal humans. As for the biology and natural explanations of Newtypes, I personally believe you guys hit the concept on the head by not defining it in one way, but rather acknowledging that Newtypes occur in all forms and in all ways, rather than a static line of progression. Granted the single common factor is exposure to space, but whose to define everyone reaches the same peak by the same path? I believe you guys did a great job at realizing it, even if not purposely, that Newtypes don't necessarily have to follow the same patterns of progressions (i.e. compare Amuro's experience to Quess's, Char's, Lalah's, or Kamille's, or any of those to another).

I also appreciated that you guys not only took an in-universe(s) perspective, but an out-of-universe/production perspective, which gives it a much more complete look at the concept.

Now, I don't see why so many people object to Mirai or Revil's Newtype potential. The potential to be a Newtype has little to do with some mysterious Force (akin to Star Wars) or skill, but with humanity's ability to understand each other at a deeper level, even if inadvertently, or even without realization after the fact. Revil having Newtype potential simply explores the next step of humanity in-discriminant of age, social status, or lifestyle. This doesn't necessarily make it genetic, but those who have realized an almost Bodhisattva level of enlightenment, but, again, not always (if ever!) on purpose. Amuro and Kamille certainly didn't want to be or even realized they were Newtypes--it was simply something that happened to them, regardless of what they wanted, expected, or cared.

It would certainly be nice to see a second part to this topic!

As always, fantastic show! :D

As always, I expectantly look forward to the next episode! :D
