Gundam's Advance of Zeta Spinoff Manga Cancelled Due to Artist's Health
The July issue of Kadokawa's Dengeki Daioh magazine announced on Tuesday that Yū Akiba's serialization of the Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam spinoff manga Advance of Zeta: Toki ni Aragaishi Mono has been canceled.

The manga went on hiatus in the magazine's November 2013 issue due to the author's health, and since the illness has become a long-lasting one, the staff decided to cancel the manga. The staff of the magazine apologized to the fans of Sunrise, the author of the original novels, and the manga. Akiba began serializing the manga in November 2012, and Kadokawa shipped the first compiled volume of the manga last September.

:!: :!: ROBOT APOCALYPSE NEWS ALERT! ! :!: :!:

R2D2 the most beloved robot in the Galaxy

Why R2 is so popular, and how the machines plan to infiltrate our society.
MARTIN: Good. So it's not that C-3PO, the other taller droid, was off-putting, per se, but R2 really captured people's hearts, right?
THOMPSON: Absolutely. In fact, even the actors who were on set would often report sort of kind of going goopy with affection for the robot. You know, they would kind of lose themselves. And these are people who even knew that it was just a tin can with some motors inside.
MARTIN: I mean, R2-D2 didn't even talk. C-3PO speaks English. R2 just made these cute little sounds. But you write that that actually plays into why we found him so endearing.
THOMPSON: Absolutely. There's this theory in robotics known as the uncanny valley theory. And what it basically states is that the more realistic a robot gets, the cooler and the more attracted we are to it, until it gets so close to being human that it looks very humanlike, it's very android-like. And then suddenly, our affection for it plunges down into a valley.
Seeing people for who they are; not who you think they are, not what you want them to be. Seeing someone unconditionally, without paranoia, without prejudice, without stereotypes, without fear...That's what "love" is.
"Love" is looking into a person's eyes and seeing a soul.

Ghost in the Shell intro recreated in haunting still life (NSFW)
The 1995 anime film Ghost in the Shell is still widely heralded as a modern sci-fi classic, helping define the look, feel and themes of the cyberpunk movement. But few fans are as devoted as the group of artists behind Project 2501, a 4K, live-action recreation of still 39 frames from Ghost in the Shell's title sequence that was released this week.

The resulting series of still images took over a year to produce and involved the talents of over 30 artists, according to the creator of the project, Hollywood graphic designer Ash Thorp (The Amazing Spiderman 2, X-Men: First Class, Person of Interest). "It was really tricky to find an indoor heated pool that would allow photography and nudity," Thorp tells us.

Thorp and his colleagues also released a short film that tracks some of the effort involved in their labor of love, but stress the still images are the main focus of the project. "I originally wanted this to be just a fun side project to create with some friends on my free time over a time span of a month, if that," he says. "But as we opened up the opportunities it got bigger and more complicated as the team grew." The designer says he's not involved in the upcoming Dreamworks remake of Ghost in the Shell that was first reported on earlier this year, but if that film is anything like Project 2501, it should be worth watching.

You Can't Outrun This Robot Velociraptor
In the history of bad ideas, creating a robotic velociraptor seems like it would rank near the top, yet that is exactly what scientists in Korea have done.

OK, so it doesn't have teeth or claws or the ability to devour a whole cow in seconds (yet). But it can run extremely fast.
The only thing stopping it is the power cord.
