Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

"OH, WHAT THE F*CK." Vann's cry was more out of frustration than surprise. Sammy had said they were testing a new gun, so he figured they would be seeing it sooner or later. But still, it was kinda big. He made sure to jump out of the trajectory, making an awkward leap that had him struggling for balance. This moment let a few stray machine gun bullets bounce around on his armor. "HEY, YOU, MOUTHY F*CK@SS! THE RICH B*STARD IN THE LEO WHO'S BEEN YAPPING? WHILE DON'T YOU TAKE YOUR ARGUMENT TO SOMEONE WHO GIVES A SH*T?"

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

-Sammy-

The young leader lets out a desperate growl as she furiously attempted to open the hatch. Though after mere seconds of trying, her hands were shot and bloody red as she got back into the controls. Like clockwork she presses the order of buttons and the order of switches until her Overflag showed signs of life. At that moment she mashes the throttle and gets the hell out of the way.

Magnus tried all he can to get rid of the charged up Leo, but the ones he shot at the basic Leo lost an arm, but follows Magnus' aim and jumps out to protect the Vayeate-equipped grunt.

And then suddenly... bright light everywhere!

The blast illuminates the battlefield, sending an intense scorching wide-angled beam across the battlefield!

Unfortunately for the Empire, its slow ramp-up time meant that the Firebrand folks had enough time to actually get out of the way. Still, even if it hit zero Firebrand units. the Leo pilot had the balls to turn and sweep the beam. Unsuccessful; for some reason Leo lost handle, or some malfunction. Either way, the Leo exploded, along with its experimental energy collector while the beam just exhausted itself sweeping for about 2 seconds.

Sammy saw this and was easily able to time the wild stream of energy and dodged it.

"EPIC... FAIL!" She shouts, though excited that they could harness something like that now, though in a more worthy mobile suit than a Leo.

Oddly though, as if Sammy had unfinished business, she flew her one-armed unit back to the base for a closer look...

"Our turn..." she grins with wicked intent...

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

-jorhan-

"don't give me that.." Jorhan chastised before wincing as he was hoisted towards the leo, chosing to wait until he was inside the mobile suit before continuing "the moment you assume the battle is won before its over is the moment your enemy will gain the upper hand."

as if to illustrate his point there was a bright flash followed two seconds later by a loud explosion, looking at the side monitor jorhan saw that where there was once a leo equiped with the protoype beam cannon there was now just a plume of black smoke, rather than say anything the veteran just gave benjamin a look that said 'see what i mean?' before opening the medical pack and set about patching himself up.

-amy-

amy raised an eyebrow as the leo went up in a spectacular explosion, trying to suppress the urge to laugh at what just happened

"well, that was rather anticlimatic" she said to herself when she noticed that sammy's overflag was heading towards the base, a move that ran counter to what the planned strategy was as the merc remembered it.

"uh boss? i love a good scrap as much as anybody else but, weren't we supposed to be scattering and getting out of here right about now?" she asked on the rebel channel, puzzled as to the sudden change in plan.

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

As the dust began to settle Kate saw a beam of light followed by an explosion out of the corner of her eye. Without the main camera and half a head, she no longer had the super enhanced hybrid-input images that turned night into twilit day, and the sharp contrast from the night sky caused the the monitor to flicker slightly. She swept the 90mm, using the gunsight's FLIR to locate targets. The odd looking false-color silhouette of the damaged CUGE peeked out of the dust and Kate opened up on Seige with the machinegun as Kate dashed from cover in the direction of the explosion. A pair of parting shots from the still mounted bazooka set on air-burst would hopefully keep the Imperial at bay too, as she skated away from the machine at low power.

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

-Sammy-

Her flag, seemingly unnoticed as she sped just a bit closer to the base, stayed true to her words when she said it's their turn.

Due to her and Kate planting bombs before the operation, it will be known just how important that Sammy gets to her Flag, and how almost the mission got botched---the detonation device was in her unit! Presumable she put it in there so that when she somehow gets downed in combat or could not make it in time she can instruct her operatives in Barstow to pull the trigger for her. Still, the process could have gone lean next time.

Sammy wastes no time, clicking the trigger, and watches as the orchestrated explosion engulfs the base, specifically the R&D complex. Bombs go each second, killing out everyone else still stick there. By the time it got to 70% detonated the building went down.

The Imperial data recovery team will have a hell of a time.

Meanwhile, Sammy says to her team, "Scatter everyone! We're done here!"

She speeds to a more residential part of Lancaster... mostly, where the upper-class army wives and military brats live. The Firebrand leader then proclaims on the radio, "Keep attacking us, and your families go down! Would you rather see your loved ones caught up in spectacular explosions too?"

Truth is... there are no bombs planted in that area, even though the Flag can go in a killing spree with a beam saber, she threatens the Imperials with a bluff as this moment would hopefully give her allies a chance to get out.

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

-Erin ‘Siege’ Halphas-

Not willing to risk tackling Kate in the cloud Erin bided his time, waiting for the Kampher to emerge. Eventually it did, but by then the rebel pilot was thinking more flight then fight. Passing shots from the bazooka kept Siege on the defensive dodging the worst of the scattering shots limiting the damage to cosmetic and minor armor scraps.

Sweeping the area with the CGUE DAC’s sensors Erin found that a few more of the rebels were scattering, trying to disappear. With a snort he let them. It would prove nothing of his superiority or gain him anything to pursue the enemy at the moment. Suddenly though one went over towards a residential district. A single damaged Flag was trying to scare the Imperial Army. Foolishness.

“Flag pilot, gunning you down would take little effort on our part. Kill a few civilians you might, but we WOULD kill you before long.” To make his point Erin aimed his remaining cannon at the Flag. “Still your forces are retreating, go with them. I for one will not strike at an opponent’s back.” Siege was telling a half truth. He would indeed shot someone in the back, but only if it met his needs. This did not.

Upset that he didn't get a chance to find that mouthy one, Vann elected to pull back, first retrieving his beam rifle and shield, then speeding as far away from the residential area as possible. He wasn't going to hurt any civvies. As much as he had decided anyone associated with the Empire deserved to die, he would only kill the ones who fought. Non-coms for him were out of the question.

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

Magnus was about to follow orders and retreat from the battle, but as soon as he started leaving the battlefield, his mobile suit began to malfunction. His monitors began to display rapidly shifting patterns of gibberish, his thrusters stopped functioning, and eventually the power was cut off completely, except for a single message which cycled across his main monitor repeatedly.

"Prepare to face justice, Imperial scum!"

'Damn! One of those rebels back in Barstow must have screwed with my OS!'

Magnus tried to activate his radio, only to find out that it had also been disabled. Magnus thought for a second, and began to activate and deactivate his GuAIZ' monoeye light, because it wasn't connected to the OS. Once he established that it was working, he began to send a coded message to the rest of the rebels with it.

"Mobile suit sabotaged, cannot escape. Leave without me."

-Vann-

When Vann saw Magnus's call, he turned around. He didn't leave people behind, regardless of who they were. He rushed back to the downed Merc, and, putting his rifle and shield on his back, scooped him up to carry him off.

"Just because you mercs are scum doesn't mean I'm gonna leave your dumb @ss out here to get captured."

The Gundam sturggled to carry the GuAIZ, but managed to drag it along, slowly but steadily.

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

Cel was torn as she landed a good distance from the enemies. While she had no family in the area, it was against her code to let civilians die simply out of spite for the enemy. Lancaster was doomed. They would have to fall back somewhere.

"This is Major Celeste Glori," she called into the open comm channel so that, hopefully, all units on both sides could hear her. "Under my authority as mobile suit squad leader, all Imperial units are to disengage the enemy. I repeat. All units are to disengage the enemy. Any whom disobey this direct order will suffer the full consequences."

She then tuned her comm to the Imperial channel. "Head for San Diego and don't look back. We're abandoning Lancaster. Spread out and protect vehicles. Conserve whatever ammo you have."

Back on the ground, Eric stared in amazement at the retreating enemies. They had won, but at what cost? His fears had been realized. They were abandoning this base.

Things had started, and he had a feeling that it would end for some time to come.

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

-amy-

shrugging her shoulders and content with the outcome, Amy pulled her flag into a climb, making sure to do a screen capture of the red leo cannon as she gained altitude, that one could become a hassle. she mused before looking at the leo that damaged her flag. so will that one, though how nice of him to provide me a name to track down. she pulled a notepad and pen out from one of the pockets on her flight suit, jotting down 'Ganelon Mennesson' before putting both items away and continuing with her exit strategy

with a groan of protest from the tortured frame the Flag managed to transform one last time into plane form before it sped off into the horizon, hopefully this thing isn't a write off.

-jorhan-

from the confines of the leo cannon's cockpit, jorhan seethed with barely contained rage, the tactic used by the overflag bringing back some unpleasant memories for him, and being unable to do anything about it only serve to infuriate him further, when the order to pull back came through he looked benjamin dead in the eye

"drop me off at the hangar section of lancaster, there is something i have to collect from there, and thats an order."

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

And there went one of their test machines in a pile of smoke and debris. And they didn't even hit the thing "T-That was purely a coincidence" he sputtered as he Jorhan gave him a 'I Told You So' look. That was absolutely not his fault and he had no control over faulty equipment. Equipment that he certainly hoped would be perfected in the near future before the Empire mass produced it.

Then more explosions happened, this time at what was left of the R&D section. No doubt the handiwork of that Flag pilot, different from the extremely lovely one from earlier, that was spouting threats at the Imperials that she would torch the residential section as well. Benjamin had half a mind to blow her out of the sky but thought against it and his passenger seemed to be barely containing himself as well.

"Drop me off at the hangar section of lancaster, there is something I have to collect from there, and thats an order."

Nodding, Benjamin brought the Leo Cannon around before coming to a stop at the hangar section. Opening the cockpit to let Jorhan out to do what he needed to, Benjamin listened to his radio when the call to retreat suddenly came in. Guess it was time to pull out "Well this is your stop, no heroics now ya hear?"

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

-Sammy-

"Retreat? That we are... we've proved our point!" Sammy retorts at Erin's speech. "Heed your own advice, you can't possibly retreat to rubble!" Sammy says as some of the Imperials also moved south and away from the ruined base. Apparently her bluff worked. Maybe because of the acted-out conviction in her voice that she wanted to really blow the residential area up.

Although Sammy herself realizes... they've awakened the sleeping giant. She fully expects the Empire to hit fast and hit hard right back. But if the members of her little gang continue to surprise, outmaneuver and outsmart the opponent... they will survive.

Sammy backs away from the city and declares this battle a win for Firebrand, letting both sides retreat.

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

-Erin ‘Siege’ Halphas-

Erin was howling with laughter inside his cockpit. “Too true Rebel. I'm surprised you have the guts." Laughter broke across the comm as the CGUE turned its back to the Flag. "Till next time, Flag Fighter.” With that the CGUE DAC started to follow the Empire retreat.

Siege glanced down at the energy readout seeing how much he had used fighting. A good bit still remained, as he intentionally tried to not use the shoulder cannons. Now with one busted he was in a pickle. Hopefully the base they were falling back too would have the proper parts to fix it, or replace it.

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

Kate too fades into the dark, but she snags the Veyeate cannon assembly and what remains of the pack as she swoops by the wreckage as she retreats, figuring she'll hoc it later in Vegas to help fund her little pet project: a high spec MS built around the new movable frame concept.
While her 'contract' with the mining magnate who had placed her in Sammy's 'care' as his contribution to the firebrand cause, was paying Kate her nominal rate for such jobs, (plus expenses like bullets, a small living stipend, and triple R for her suit) most of that was going back to him to pay for the debt she had incurred, So Kate needed to keep an eye out for other ways to keep throwing cash into her.. hobby. She figure's she'll get a good price for it too, since Imperial R&D stuff is rather hard to come by.
She stows the gear in one of her secret weapons caches on her way back to base after making sure she wasn't followed. She'll snag it later when she has time to make the trip home, and grabs a spare bazooka to replace the one she lost while she's there before heading back to Barstow; Her suit looked like a mess and she wanted to fix it asap.

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

-Jorhan-

"I have neither the patience nor inclination for heroics, and maybe you should heed your own advice in the future." Jorhan retorted to Benjamin's 'don't be a hero' quip, in reference to the damage the leo cannon had suffered, after gingerly making his way down the zip line, jorhan ducked into the side door of the hangar in front of the leo and pressed a button on a console

with klaxxons blaring the main doors slid open, revealing a yellow Tieren all reigon type, jorhan hobbled his way up the catwalks and carefully slipped in through the cockpit hatch, taking care not to aggravate his now bandaged injury, in the midst of the startup proceedure he briefly gazed at a small photo stuck to the cieling with blutac, before reaching up and shutting the hatch.

the heavy machine came to life, putting one of its legs forward with a loud *thud* on the concrete, pausing only to grab a taurus' beam cannon located on a mounting rack before plodding out of the hangar and turning to face the leo cannon.

"ok, let us leave this place", the shoulder thrusters kicked into life, pulling the Tieren up until it was hovering a few feet off of the ground, the unit swivelled 180 degrees around before more thrusters activated, sliding the hovering suit out of the ruins of lancaster and into the desert

-Vann-

"F*ck me and my no-man-left-behind rules..." The stupid GuAIZ was getting harder and harder to carry, even for all the Gundam's strength. Still, if Vann couldn't stick to his principles, he would be worse than an Imperial. At least they were consistently evil. Still, being a good guy was tough, and it had long since made being a nice guy impossible...

-Gavin-

While much of the ensuing chaos had been going, on, Gavin was staring at a flashing light with awe, only stopping to admire the burst of energy from the massive beam cannon. Still, the fight was over...

Another message went out over the radio. "Um, Lord Makaron wishes to inform you all that he, er we think you all put forth your best effort and we're all very proud of you. You are all very wonderful people."

"And maybe you should try not to get stranded in desert with a blood leak in your side" he grinned as he withdrew the zipline and closed the cockpit. Standing up, the Leo Cannon took a step back when the hangar doors began slowly opening. Oh my did Jorhan have some sort of amazing super prototype he had lying around?

Eager to see what was lurking inside Benjamin frowned when it was just a Tieren, albeit a pretty tough looking Tieren, plod out of the hangar. "And I thought it was something cool" he mumbled as he turned up the volume.

"Ok, let us leave this place"

Watching the Tieren lift itself with the multiple thrusters Benjamin watched as it suddenly took off into the desert. Following after it, kept cycling his songs until he found one that he felt necessary for his current mood "Guess looks can be deceiving"

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

Magnus had realized that the whoever was carrying him might not be friendly, even though he had gotten the message about the total Imperial retreat, so he kept his eyes open for chances to retake control of his mobile suit. His first step was to inspect his cockpit thoroughly to see if his problems were being caused by a device, as opposed to a virus.

"Well, well, that doen't belong here."

Magnus had noticed a small box with a timer which had been attached to the underside of his GuAIZ' monitor, connecting into the cables which sent signals between the pilot and MS. After a few futile seconds trying to pry the device off, Magnus lost his patience and drove his saber into it, using it as a lever to remove the device, plunging his cockpit into darkness. A few seconds later, the cockpit filled with light again as Magnus turned the GuAIZ back on. As soon as his radio was working again, he sent a message to the unidentified mobile suit who was trying to carry him.

"I managed to get this thing mostly working again, but it looks like my camera isn't functioning. Could you lead me back to the base?"

Re: EP.2 Mercurius and Vayeate

"Yeah, sure, fine, what the f*ck ever. Follow me." Vann guided the merc back to HQ, keeping an eye out for Imperials and raiders.

When they got back, Vann docked and got out of his suit. He was grouchy that he had to guide that idiot merc back, and on top of that, he couldn't find Solar anywhere in the hangar. "SOLAR GODD*MMIT WE HAVE A BUSTED OS THA-" Solar announced his presence by punching Vann straight in the face, knocking him to the floor.

"WHAT THE F*CK WAS THAT F-"

"One more word, Karkath, I thwear to god, ONE MORE F*CKING WORD AND I WILL BEAT YOU TO A PULP." Vann wisely chose to shut his idiot mouth. "Do you have any idea, ANY F*CKING IDEA what it'th like when you jutht hang up and go run off to fight? You have me worried thick about you, you dumb thh*t! How are we all thuppothed to jutht wait for you to get back? Can't you even thtop to think about THAT?"

"Uh.... I guess I screwed up?"

"YOU F*CKING THINK THO? ONE DAY I'LL JUTH BE HERE WAITING, BUT YOU AREN'T GOING TO COME BACK! BUT I'LL THTILL BE HERE, THLOWLY WASTING AWAY, HOPING MY BETHT FRIEND WILL THHOW UP, EVEN THOUGH HE'TH FRIED F*CKING HAMBURGER AND I'LL HAVE NEVER BEEN ABLE TO EVEN THAY GOODBYE!" With his outburst done, Solar gave one final sigh of frustration. Vann looked up at him.

"Are we... Are we still friends?"

Solar stopped, then helped Vann back up. "Yeah, we're thtill betht friendth. Thorry about that, I wath juth tho thcared..."

"Yeah, well at least you convinced me to keep in touch." With that, the two friends managed to walk off together, Vann sharing his tale of the operation with Solar listening intently. It was certainly an odd friendship, but there was a genuine understanding between the two.
