-Kylern-

The Ceres had docked and the teams were moving in. Kylern was trying to move out when he noticed a certain someone he was surprised to see up and moving around. Quickly he moved in to check on her, after all the last time he saw her she had been laying in a hospital bed barely able to talk. Before he could move he handed the body of the Fairlion pilot over to a medic and gave direction to hand it over to Doctor Goldsburg of the Research and Development Department. Then he headed for Rena's position.

But before he could get close a figure approached her and in turn struck her. His original excitement turned to intense anger as Black Mage walked right into a figure he would never had detected. "You sonofabitch..." With that Black Mage head a 45APC in his face and just enough pressure on the trigger the man could probably smell the gunpower ready to spark.

"Turn around and apologize before I show you what a real knife in the face is." Blood red eyes bared down on Black Mage as he stared into the face of a real life Newtype Killer. "She was never on the damn ship because she was laying in the hospital for the last few days. Apologize for striking her or I swear I'll shoot you right where you stand. And don't think your magical BS will work on me." He snapped at Black Mage making a scene in front of everyone.

-Black Mage-

Black Mage didn't turn around.

"I don't think it's me that you'll have to be worrying about soon, Kylern..." Black Mage simply said, shrugging. Was everyone on this ship that much of a Stick-in-the-mud? "Given how emotional everyone is, do you think Strike is going to care, Kylern? You really should open your eyes and take a good look around --- thinking with your 'nerts instead of your head isn't gonna defeat those Dark Star Knights at all.

"But whatever tickles your fancy, Captain. You're the boss."

At that, Black Mage turned around at last, his eyes briefly glancing at the bloodshot eyes of a Newtype Killer --- eyes met yellow dots, and Black Mage didn't flinch at all. Instead, after a short while, Black Mage's expression changed to ^^ again, having felt Kylern's destructive potential, his submerged bloodlust...and felt that he liked Kylern that way. "Y'know, I'm starting to like you now, Kylern. You've got that potential to seek destruction, just like me. Guess I was wrong about you!"

Finally, BM turned to Rena, losing the ^^ look, and...bowed; After the apology was made, BM walked away proper, and into Aidoneus Island. "I apologize for backhanding you in the face, Rena."

"There's really no nead for all of the formalities." He withdraws his hand and puts it in his coat pocket. "Now, if you could escort me to the command center we can get all this boring paperwork out of the way."

His anger turned to slight confusion as Black Mage went from potential target to oddly interesting. He seemed to be warning him first about Strike Zero and then that Prince fellow. He didn't feel threatened by this guy like he had been expecting... Kylern assumed he would have to shoot Black Mage after all he had seen from the guy but when their eyes met he sensed something familiar. And it creeped him out...

He found himself placing the gun away and his glare continue to anaylze the strange man. "What are you talking about?" He didn't like people trying to judge him and he didn't like being compared to this strange man. Then strangely Black Mage turned around and apologized to Rena. That was unexpected but good enough for him as Black Mage left leaving Kylern rather concerned about Rena now.

Heading up beside her he gripped her wrist softly. "Lets get you out of here. You might be in trouble."

- Strike -

That guy...

As Strike watched the robed maniac descend from the ship, he couldn't say that he was angry. Still... Rena certainly had done nothing to warrant a slap to the face. Black Mage had gone too far with that one.

Slowly, he stood from where he sat and rested a hand on Rena's shoulder as he walked past.

"I'm sorry. You... didn't deserve that..."

He didn't sound all that convincing. Hell, he didn't think he even managed to convince himself.

He knew such a feeling was unreasonable... but he couldn't help it. His eyes did what his mouth couldn't in voicing his unspoken question.

Just where the hell were you when we needed you the most?

He stood still for several moments before following after Black Mage out to the island dock. Right now, his mind was blank from sheer weariness. All he wanted to do was rest.

Or maybe he'd try getting drunk. That was supposed to help you when you were down, wasn't it...?

--Rachel--

"Ok, follow me then."

Rachel begins her trek to the building. A few paces later she would find Slug sitting on top of the foot of the Xi Gundam. "GET YOUR *'N ASS OFF THAT UNIT!" She yells.

"Hold on!"

She shakes her head and continues to walk past. In the lounge she sees the masked woman. While she only took a short glance and was unsure she saw what she saw, she would feel those pair of eyes stare back at her, all along, until they were out of sight. It was a bit uncomfortable; she didn't know if it's just because she's wearing a samurai mask or something else, but soon they were already in Taylor's vicinity... and the general's.

--Taylor and Santi--

Rachel salutes and greets, and Santi salutes back. Taylor waves off the newcomer, saying without looking at Sol, "I'll get the files for this guy. A bit important of a surprise meeting here."

Rachel then says to Sol, "It's going to be taken care of, soon. But for the meantime, get familiar with this base."

After, Taylor apologizes to the general, saying, "It should have been more formal, and---"

"Relax, Major. At least everything's working, right?"

"Ah, yes sir."

"What I am not 100% comfortable with is the fact that over the past few weeks, you've had an unidentified ship docked here, a confirmed Fandom unit, and a confirmed DC unit in your base."

Taylor answers quickly, "I'm positive that the Fandom unit was a salvage from a previous battle, sir."

"And the others?"

"Ah, I was just asking her. Lieutenant Astaz here," Taylor points out the innovator, "She is the MS commander of the non-Federation ship."

-Emily-

Emily, wake up.

Mmm?

Game time, Emily. Wake up.

Mmm...sir?

Hiya, kiddo. :)

...Ow, ow, owowow...I feel like I got hit by a Blasphemy...

Yeaaaaaah...about that. Kiddo, I have some bad news: Your teammates accidentally replaced your heart with a baked potato, you have about 3 seconds to live.

O_O!!!

...

Just kidding. =P

Siiiiiir! X(

Sorry, sorry. That's expected, kiddo. The first time you manifest your consciousness fully into the Full Psycoframe will sap your energy at an increased rate. It does have a duration, after all --- a 10 minute per Character Level/day duration, but still a duration.

Ow...

Emily?

Mmm?

Do you remember exactly what happened when you were manifesting?

I...

Just take your time.

...I'm still unconscious, aren't I?

You gain 5xp.

Yay!

Emily?

...

Yes?

I remember...I fought Elya...and I nearly beat her, too! Then the GN-XIIIs came back with that field of theirs, I had to Withdraw and regroup, and then...

...

And then...

Yes?

And then...Xiu died. Awwww, man! That stinks!

Yes. I'm glad to see you know already. That'll save this campaign a bit of background info when you wake up.

But sir! You said...

Yes...?

You said, if I let go, the Unicorn can manifest my desires...it can protect anyone I want to protect, right?

I did.

Then why did Xiu die? I wanted to protect her, too! Why couldn't I save her even with Munchkin techniques?

Because her death was meant to happen, Emily.

...Whaaaa?

Remember when we talked back at the Opera about the Way of the Munchkin, what it can do for you, how you can use them? About Vecna? About how Munchkins can attempt to change and defy their fates?

Yeah...

Remember what I told you then about winning?

Yeah, I do! You said...you said...'we can never win them all'.

This is the lesson for you here. Even we Munchkins have our limits --- there's only so much a Munchkin can do to defy and deny a bad DM. You saw out the Unicorn's eyes --- you saw that despite Stellar, you, and even Masamune's best efforts, Xiu still was the only one who managed to take Elya down. And she suffered for it, and died.

But...I can't help but feel this is my fault. If I had pushed the Unicorn more...

If you had strained yourself with the Full Psycoframe, Emily, there'd be two dead girls on the Ceres at the end of the fight instead of one. That would not help.

...Oh.

But do you see now? The purpose of a Munchkin, a Munchkin's ultimate battle, is against a bad DM who writes his story in blatant disregard of his players --- Xiu's death was planned, contrived, and carried out solely at the DM's whimsy. Slow will do nothing to stop Elya, Flame Strike will simply miss. Even Miracle and True Resurrection wouldn't have worked because the DM wanted Xing Xiu dead and decided to give resurrecting her DC You-won't-make-it-no-matter-what-you-do.

...Yeeeeeah...

You had done whatever you could, and exceeded everyone's expectations at your level and Challenge Rating, Emily. Don't blame yourself. But again; we can't win them all, but we can win most of them, given time and experience, if we watch carefully what the DM plans to do. An expert Munchkin can do that, can disrupt and derail a bad DM and save anyone he wants to kill off or hurt. A Munchkin does not have to conform to the plot if he or she does not want to.

But...I'm still too weak to do that...

You'll get stronger in time, Emily, but now...you know. Watch this plot carefully, keep an eye on the plot hooks, the contrivances. Only then will you know how best to break them. You now know this DM is bad, his NPCs are bad --- and will do the DM's taciturn will. Be wary. Fight him fire against fire. And one day, you will derail him so much he will realize the error of his ways...and the world will be at peace.

You really think I can do that, sir? Thanks!

You still have to wake up. Later, Emily.

Oh, right. Byeeeeee! <3

-Emily and Kirie-

"Ems? Hello? Ummmm...uh..."

Emily's eyes snapped open to find herself not in the Ceres' infirmary, but the one on Aidoneus Island; The Ceres was back, and it meant...shaking her head, Emily's eyes trailed right, her body draped in a soft teal blanket on one of the hospital beds and an IV feed --- Emily otherwise seemed alright --- and saw Kirie sitting right next to her with a concerned look in his eyes.

Kirie had done nothing but fret over Emily since the return. He retrieved the Unicorn from the Ceres personally, of course, and opened the cockpit to --- predictably --- see Emily unconscious, a sight that, while it paled to the sight of Xiu's final moments and resting place, nonetheless still made his heart jump, having seen this the previous time Emily had entered Destroy Mode. It was a short order to then bring her into the infirmary, and Kirie had elected to stay there; It was certainly preferable to wallowing in the permeating sadness on the ship.

And Kirie knew that the last thing Date Masamune wanted at that moment was anyone else's sympathy.

As Emily lay there, Kirie had placed his arms together at his waist, sitting on a plastic chair next to Emily's bed, and twiddled his thumbs. He was about to try talking to Emily about XP when Emily woke up --- to his visible relief, as Kirie exhaled. "I know, don't try talking about XP," Emily muttered, sitting up and preempting Kirie's thoughts. "It's awkward coming from you."

"Well, whatever you want, as long as you're awake."

Emily turned and blinked at Kirie for awhile. Silence. After awhile, Emily turned away and lowered her head, eyes on her blanket. "Xiu's...gone, isn't she?" Emily sighed, although she knew neither she nor Kirie needed to pretend; Emily sensed it, if not seen it through the Unicorn's eyes. "And that voice...this 'Prince' of Elya's..."

Kirie nodded.

"This...is not a good time, as you can tell, Ems." Kirie shook his head, moving his hands to the side of Emily's bed. "At least Elya got what was coming to her, but with no clue what happened to her it's not much of a comfort. I was hoping Morpheus could make some sense out of it, but he's not back yet."

The news did nothing for Emily, who nodded, sulking in sadness.

"Y'know, I dunno what you guys thought about her, but *I* thought Xiu was pretty cool." Emily interjected, her voice wistful. "One of a kind, really. Seemed like the brash, arrogant stereotype but really once she was accepted she was all kinds of wonders. It's not much, but...I'll miss her, Kirie."

"I know." Kirie nodded.

"And those dice she gave me..." Emily bit her lip; Kirie could see her eyes start to mist up, Emily still staring at her blanket. "...Nobody's given me anything before, either, at least anything that didn't require me to go out there and bust some Fandom heads. In this world, I mean...Xiu was the first."

A pause; As Kirie felt an uneasy tension well up around him and Emily, he shuddered --- and a minute later, his suspicious were confirmed as Emily sniffled, leaned towards him, and began sobbing. Kirie let Emily lie there, hand uneasily moving around her back, gripping her left upper arm gently; Emily's tears drenched his shoulder.

"...I don't like this...I try and try to be a Munchkin, and if only I was stronger, then..." Emily wailed; Kirie's other hand clenched at that, the hand that felt the crest of the King of Hearts warm in its own reciprocation of Kirie's mourning, glowing slightly. Kirie could understand Emily's perceived helplessness too well --- he couldn't help but think that had he not wasted the Astray Red Frame's capabilities on Berith Darlford and not burnt it out that early with Furinkazan, the outcome might've been different. "This stinks! Xiu didn't deserve to...I hate this DM! I hate this campaign!"

But Kirie also knew there was no use dwelling on it now. He had to be strong --- a leader for the devastated Light Warriors. He was the King of Hearts; People, his friends, were counting on him.

"These Dark Star Knights, their Prince..." Emily continued to sob, and Kirie did not let go of her. "Promise me we'll get 'em, Kirie...promise me you'll Disintegrate and then Gust of Wind them so they can't be rezzed...it's the least they all deserve..."

Kirie nodded mutely --- Masamune, at least, would agree with her and him.

Sol turns and begins to walk out of the room. "Just let me know if you need anything from me." With that Sol walks out of the room and begins to wander the halls, trying to familiarize himself with the base. Occasionally having to stop and ask people where he was and for directions.

- Jacob -

In the aftermath of the disastrous skirmish, Jacob did not join his comrades to mourn Xiu. Instead, he had stayed in the Wild Wuerger, keeping pace with the Ceres as it limped back toward the Divine Crusader's island base.
The Shenlong Gundam had been amazing, taking out the Fairlion, but the outcome was too tragic for words.

To be honest, he hadn't known Xiu all that well, hardly at all really. Still, she was just a child, surely the universe could not be so cruel. But yet, all evidence would point to yes, yes the universe did not care, and it depressing the hell outta him.

Landing the Wuerger in it's assigned hanger, he left it in the care of the mechanics and went to tell Sara the sad news. He new he would likely find her where he left her. In the R&D hanger slaving away at the TE Engine of the Cerberus. He arrived at the elevator ad pushed the button that would take him deep underground.

When the elevator doors opened into the natural cavern that the hanger was built into, Jacob strode purposefully into the tangled maze of workbenches, cables and bits of machinery and half formed mecha, toward where the Form G Cerberus stood proud over it all. As he drew nearer, he could see the various wires still connecting the mech to the various computers and displays placed on wheeled tables around the Cerberus' feet. He caught glimpse of Sara seated at one of the computer terminals with her back to him, dressed in sensible green coveralls.

Walking up to the woman, he tapped her on the shoulder and said, in a serious tone, "Hey, can we talk?"

"Why? Did something happen? 'Cause if it can wait..." She had yet to turn around, still engrossed in her work.

"Xing Xiu is dead," he said flatly.

"The Chinese girl? Huh, that's unfortunate to be sure, but I suppose she just couldn't handle being a pilot. It happens."

Jacob was to shocked to speak. He could not believe what he was hearing. Excuse me!" he said, incredulous at Sara's attitude. "I was there. Xiu sacrificed herself to save the team aboard the Ceres She'ss #&%ing hero, and you say she couldn't handle herself! Who the hell do you think you are!?"

"Whatever, I have important work to do, and if that's all..." Sara, disregarding Jacob's outburst completely turned back to her work. Jacob still not believe what he was hearing of seeing, turned back to the elevator and left Sara to her 'important' work.

As the doors closed behind him, he lashed out at the rear wall of the elevator with his artificial arm, leaving a dent two inches deep. He stood still for the long trip up to the surface, one thought drifting through his mind.

Sara, what the hell happened to you.

"Sorry about all that. A lot happened on that operation and everyone is on edge." He gave a sigh trying to get the feeling of anxiety out of his system. He also couldn't get Black Mage out of his head to the point it was pissing him off.

"If anyone touches you again I'll make them regret it." He balled his fist up trying to be impressive until his terminal went off. Looking down he saw that it was from Goldsburg and told him to come down to the dimensional portal for something interesting.

Kylern looked over at Rena. "Well I gotta head for the portal, wanna come with me or go rest? I don't know if you've ever seen the device I came through before." He offered not realizing what was waiting on him down there.

"Well... I'll go with you." Her expression was one of pure curiosity.

-Zaine-

He finished his letter, sealed and stamped it, and went to place it among the outgoing mail.

After dropping it off, he went to the hangar to look over the damaged machines; in particular the battreed Alteisen and the unarmed Huckbein Mk. II.

"I wonder if I could use parts from the Mk. II to upgrade the Alteisen..."

-Luna-

In response to Zaraki's question about making himself different from Zangetsu, an idea came to mind

"A few color changes here and there would be good to help distinguish the two of you."

"Just to warn you Goldsburg is down there waiting. So don't be alarmed by him." He laughed a little knowing Rena wasn't a fan of the good doctor after their last meeting. But he did lead her along and into a secure part of the base. He showed his ID to the guards to let them know he was part of this project and told them Doctor Goldsburg was waiting for him. They let him threw but eyed Rena. Kylern just pulled her along and ignored them.

Once they reached the large room he saw the doctor in front of a console with a glowing shard from Kylern's V-Crystal. Walking over he seemed rather upset. "What are you doing with that?"

-Goldsburg-

He just laughed and pointed at the rift that had opened up. He motioned at the glowing red eyes and the power coming from it. "I found you a new friend..." He tossed the crystal back to Kylern now that the real thing was here. The shard wasn't needed anymore.

-Kylern-

He looked at the shadow behind the veil and seemed kind of surprised. "You found me a mech? What is it?"

Goldsburg didn't know but started to finalize its crossover. The rift fully materialized as a pair of large claws pushed through the gel like surface and grasped onto the wall as something started to pull itself through. Every newtype in the base would feel an echo from the machine's Flash System. And it was an echo of hunger... like the source wanted to devour them.

The claws gripped into the reinforced metal of the facility walls as a face pushed through the barrier revealing the trademark V-crest of a Gundam. "Its a Gundam..." But Kylern knew what that face belonged to from its bat like wings stretched out from the head. But he didn't say anything as its body came through next.

Goldsburg watched perplexed as the machine gave off an odd energy. DC had after all never dealt with a Flash System... Although the Federation had a few units with it. The demon like Gundam howled as it struggled to pull himself from the dimensional barrier. Its massive frame stepped through so that Kylern could see the Atomic scissors attached to the knees. He face was bright until he saw the condition the Belphagor was in... The cockpit was partially burned out revealing it had been in battle recently.

Full materialized the Belphagor gave its final howl of release and shut down. Its body was scarred with beam fire but fully intact. It was not a relic like the Gundams in the X series but came directly from the last battles of the Space War that destroyed humanity in that dimension. It was a monster designed to destroy newtypes and other gundams alike... And Kylern liked it.

He looked over at Rena with a smile. "Meet the Gundam Belphagor... The UN's second most powerful Gundam after the X." He wondered what she would think about the 20meter tall monster standing there looking down on them.

When her gaze met that of the monster of a mobile suit that Goldsburg brought through, her expression was a mixture of excitement and terror.

-Zaine-

He couldn't think of anything that might give the Alt an increase in performance, so he decided to ask Gai for his opinion. Zaine went to find said person, and after a bit of searching, couldn't find Gai.

Instead, he went to the bridge, and decided to ask Captain Altair on the matter.

"Um.. Captain? You wouldn't happen to know where Gai is, would you?"

not ten minutes after the Valhalla landed beside the Ceres Zaine entered tthe Bridge asking for Gai.

"He flew back on his own; he's probably in underground hanger 6. but you can't get in there unless you are part of the G-Stone research project. I'm sure he'll be along soon enough."

Sume Gai

sure enough Gai entered the dock in which the two ships lay; He could feel the sadness emanating from the two vessels, not as a newtype but as someone who shared the same pain.

There were many things he wanted to do; several people he wanted to see. Strike and Stellar to deliver his condolences but the wound was likely too fresh; Emily to make sure she was alright but she likely d enough attention and Gai would be a third wheel.

In the end Gai returned to the Valhalla neither task dealt with; stowed for another day.
