Meet Your Mods

To make sure we don't turn out to appear as evil, hateful lurkers that only ban people and lock threads, we have created this little section right here.

We'll tell a little bit about ourselves, Real life and internet life, then whatever else we deem appropriate. (hyperlinks to stuff = win, in this topic)

It will be one moderator introducing him or herself once ever X amount of time, then another interval will continue with a new moderator.

Compulsory Question: Fav and not so Fav things about your duties; here at mechatalk.

All Users Go ahead and ask us anything you want. If you'd like to leave a comment, that works too. Don't be shy. Just about anything will 'go' here

Something I've always been curious about is how all the mods know each other.

I can answer some of this. It's a bit of a mix. Some of our staffers like lalahsghost, Rei, Vash, Scyron and VR7 are longtime members of the #mahq IRC channel, with some going back more than 5 years when it was first created. Some mods know each other from the previous MAHQ forum, or from other anime forums.

Oh yeah, solid snake!

There's a few stories I know about chris that would make you "ROFL", or a few that would make you cringe~ I guess you'll just have to find out when we get around to him...hehehehe

Hey everyone, I'm [redacted] , known to you all as Cardi Doorl.

Let's see... what to say? I was born in Orlando, Florida and lived there for most of my life (with brief interludes in El Paso, Texas; and Herdern, Switzerland) but I now live in northern Virginia. I'm a Freshman at George Mason University (major: Undeclared!?)

What else... I'm Hispanic (Cuban, to be exact), and I'm an anime geek (I bet none would've guessed). But besides the obvious anime and Gundam stuff, I enjoy running so I can get some fresh air, as well as just killing time with my group of friends. I play a little guitar (I'm godawful at it, and my guitar's pretty much broken so I've been out of practice for a while:|), I can speak German way way way better than I speak Spanish (which always surprises people) but I consider myself able to learn languages quickly, and I'm a compulsive knuckle-cracker (always charming!). Although I'm not as vocal about it, I'm into the Beatles as much as a certain other mod here is into Van Halen.

I've been around MAHQ for a while; frequented to main site since, I dunno, 2000 or something, and joined the forums in 2002, at least. I've always been involved primarily with the RPG community here, even in its kinda-early days. After all, the very reason I joined the boards was because I used to do those godawful e-mail RPGs, and I wanted to try something better. Now I'm one of the three mods in charge of managing the RPG community here, which has been nothing but enjoyable. I also look after the Advertisements and Junk Guild sections.

Anyhow, if I think of anything else, I'll add it, but feel free to ask questions, make comments, hurl vulgar insults, or confess undying love! ;)

Ah, good question. I usually say Dragonball Z, as that was the first time I watched one while being aware that it was a Japanese production in translation (as well as being aware of the term "anime").

I did sporadically watch Voltron when I was even younger, though, but of course I was unaware that Japan had anything to do with it. If you want to get really really technical, then Voltron would be it.

That would be Mr. Kimura, a charming character - the only major male one - from Azumanga Daioh (one of my absolute favorite anime series :D). Here's a pic without the hat pulled over his face, which he only wears in one scene in one episode.

And yes, his mouth is always agape like that. He's just a creepy fellow.

Ha, I also watched Voltron without knowing but i did notice a difference when GI Joe and He-man (so gay) came on afterwards.

Will Fritz draw more characters from the U.C. rpg? I think its a cool idea. Makes the character more likeable and helps to picture every scene.

I guess you'll have to ask good ol Fritzy when he's up ;)

But if I have to give an answer, then the only truthful one I can give is: I sure hope so.

Howdy. I’m A.P. Abendroth, but around here I’m Fritz Ashlyn.

Hometown: Bay City, Texas
Currently Living In: Corpus Christi, Texas
College: Sophomore at Texas A&M University at Corpus Christi (transferring to main A&M campus soon)
Major: Criminal Justice (going to Law School eventually)
Work: Not at the moment, although I could sell a ketchup popsicle to a woman in white gloves.
Car: 1996 Dodge Stratus (maroon)
Things of Interest: I can trace my lineage back to 13th century German nobility: Coat of Arms

I’m from the Gulf Coast. Born from (mostly) German ancestry thanks to the huge influx of German Methodists to south Texas, with a little British thrown in from my mother’s side of the family (so I’m just a big whitey if you couldn’t tell from that). I can speak German and Spanish, although the best I can do in the latter is hold a simple conversation (I can read it a lot better than I can construct original sentences). I play the bass guitar and the trombone.

I joined the MAHQ board in May 2002 after using the site for a while before that for tech specs. I started my board career as a sidekick of sorts to another member (Eidle Vascht) who joined to start an RPG, and now I’m a mod for the RPG and Modeling & Merchandise sections.

...I don’t have a MySpace, I’m not on Facebook, and I don’t do DeviantArt. In lieu of that, I made a police sketch of myself with the magic of the internet: ...didn't come out as well as I had intended....

Let's try again, this time in a style more fitting with the board: Me. I did that one a while back, so I'm clean shaven now, but it looks more like me than the sketch.

EDIT: To answer Lalacat's questions.

Born: October 10, 198X (I share the same birthday as Judau Ashta)
Places I've Been: The entire American south, and as far west as Nevada (Vegas, baby!). The only place outside of the U.S.A. I've been is Mexico, since it's so close.

I don't know why...But your coat of arms reminds me of doctor zoidberg from futurama. Anyways, how did you trace your lineage back so far? I'd like to do that for myself and see what comes up.

Wow Fritzy, now I know who to go to, to talk about Ger/Span stuff, or to make really interesting sentences in general! Great job!

Oh, I guess you can just edit your orig post, but when were you born, and where else in the Nation/World have you visited/lived at?

Well, it's sort of an ongoing project that I became aware/a part of a few years ago. Thanks to decent record keeping from US Customs, I can go back in the US to New Orleans in 1863, and from there I can trace back to Germany. From German records we've managed to get as far back as the late 1200s.

Here's some people I'm related to:

Mjr. Gen. William H. Abendroth, and Gen. Abendroth with Pres. Eisenhower:Da Prez.

Amandus Augustus Abendroth, mayor of Hamburg in the 1830s.

And, Hermann Abendroth, composer. Featured on a stamp.

Whoah, makes me want to talk to my uncle now; he did a similar family-tracing kinda thing years ago that took us all the way to Medieval France (at least, what was France at the time - I believe the area is in Spanish hands now). Makes me want to take a closer look at those records to see if anything's interesting.
