How many people in the Earth Federation live on Earth?
How many people in the Earth Federation live on Earth?
There is understandably a great deal of friction between the Earthnoids and Spacenoids, so how many of the EF personnel actually live on Earth? To police the entire Earth Sphere would take a great deal of people, and they can’t all live on earth, due to the limited population allowed on earth. So does the EF actively seek out Earthnoids for its ranks? Or is it only the higher-ranking members from earth?

They never gave a number of that. The only number we can use is that the colony drop was estimated to have killed about 2 billions during OYW(a post war analysis find out it only killed 1/10 of that and the 90% only lost contact because the satellites are dead and radiowaves blocked by Minovsky paritcles.)
The 2 billion figure includes not just Sydney, but a lot of coastal cities hit by the Tsunami caused by the drop.
I'd estimate the number to be around 3~5 billions considering a few decades ago you still only have around 1 billion on Earth when they are close to freezing the migration project and 90% of human population were living in space with the total pop count at 10 billion.(human population doubles around every 40 years.)

For what its worth, in UC 0050 there are supposed to be 11 billion humans in total, with 2 billion on Earth, according to the old setting note. http://www.ultimatemark.com/gundam/arch ... tting.html
Ofc, that is three decades before the war, so by at the eve of the war there will be alot more.

It is worth noting that that link states Side 3 has a population of 1 billion whereas both Origin & the early-80s compilation trilogy state Zeon has a population of 150,000,000. Those movies also state that about half of humanity lives in space. Although other sources say its about 80% that live in space.John-Luck Pickerd wrote: ↑Tue Apr 20, 2021 2:31 pm For what its worth, in UC 0050 there are supposed to be 11 billion humans in total, with 2 billion on Earth, according to the old setting note. http://www.ultimatemark.com/gundam/arch ... tting.html

It is an interesting source and a good read to get a grip on the old setting notes, but I would not consider that canon.

In Unicorn it's stated that there are 2 Billion people still living on Earth. As for the colonies, Luna, the Jupiter fleets, and Mars, the total is higher. The OYW decimated the human population but it seemingly rebounded fairly quickly.

Re: How many people in the Earth Federation live on Earth?
We had a discussion before about this:
https://www.mechatalk.net/viewtopic.php ... 7&p=385214
I do have to say that my estimations are likely very off in that thread.
I checked after Avengers: Infinity War(For an article I have to write for a astronomy magazine), and human population doubles about every 40 years.
So 0050 with 11 billion will give us something more like 18 billion in 30 years(0079)
So if we have half of that after OYW, we get something like 9 billion, we get around 0.325 pop. growth in 13 years, so
we are back to around 11 billion in 0093.
Consider baby booms after wars, the better medical technology, more space and food to support growth(we have a lot of poor countries with people starving to death), we might be able to cover the extra deaths from Gryps and 1st NZ conflict.

Definitely, on present day Earth the population has grown by billions in only a few decades, so it makes sense that would continue into the Universal Century. In fact that probably adds to the issues between Earth and the Colonies; as the population in space grows it increases the amount of colonies needed as well as their size (look how big the colonies are by Victory Gundam). Also the population of earth would still grow from the descendants of the earth elite, explsaing the additional cities we see in later installments, and also the Federation possibly expelling the descendants as the population grows again (as seen in Gundam Hathway).
