did I just see at the end? @[email protected]

So the super jiuce that made Coulson's revival possible was extracted from some kind of alien? O.o

That was..........rather overkill for keeping medical technology secret. I'd see it if it were for weaponry or cyber weaponry, but that felt like way too much for keeping medical technology secret, even if it was alien in origin.

I wonder what Fury is going to have to say to this, though.
Next week, LADY SIF and Asgardian dueling in what looks like it'll be a multi-parter based on the "Uprising" title.
Yeah, that was indeed a twist that you could sort of see coming but the display of it made it worthwhile.

VICTORIA HAND IS HYDRA.

Okay, there's a chance she might not be. (they didn't say so anything about her in the movie) Maybe she's wondering what the heck is going on, because in the next episode preview we saw her trying to convince Simmons that Coulson was the bad guy. But I doubt it.

But anyway, yeah, it all comes together now. The bus team has been fighting the new Hydra hidden within SHIELD all this time.

I was definitely caught off-guard that Sitwell was Hydra though. Expecially when he just appeared in this latest episode of SHIELD. (he was in the movie, so I wonder how the timeline lines up then) They did a good job of making him a casual character rather than a big figure in either the movies or Agents of SHIELD which helped to hide him possibly being a bad guy, too. I do wonder what Coulson will have to say about it since they've been shown to be pretty tight.

So, is Agents of SHIELD really going to be only one season? SHIELD was been torn down at the end of CA 2 to stop Hydra and all the SHIELD characters moved on to new lives. Fury has gone off the grid to hunt down Hydra, Hill joined Stark Enterprises, Natasha is on a journey to find herself, other characters joined other government agencies, and Steve is off to find Bucky. But without SHIELD, there can't be any Agents of SHIELD.

If SHIELD really does turn out to be ending with just one season, I'll admit it'll impact my enthusiasm for this series. It'll definitely feel like we've been milked, and it'll feel disappointing to see how Agents of SHIELD had so little impact on the Marvel Cinematic Universe (as in none at all) while the movies conversely had such big impact on it.

Though the only things we haven't gotten an answer for is the plot behind Skye and GH.

But we still have a good number of episodes left until the finale. (whether it be season or series) Are they really going to stretch this Uprising Arc for all those episodes? It only takes a few days for Cap and co. to take down SHIELD.

Yeah. Actually, I'm okay with this save for one part, which I'll get to in a moment.
First off, tonight's episode does indeed directly parallel with the climax of The Winter Solder, so it helps a lot to have seen that first as the episode spoils quite a bit of the movie's plot as things happen quick, fast, and in a hurry unlike Shinji's speculations from last week. Speaking of spoilers, I'm gonna spoil tonight's episode here, so don't click on that show spoiler button if you have not seen it.

Zoinks hits the fan and we find out who the real Clairvoyant is. It's a SHIELD agent all right, but not who we have been led to believe. As I said above, I'm cool with the why things play out in this episode and who the real Clairvoyant is until the very end. What. The. ZOINKS. WARD?!?!

That's some dropping the ball, writing staff. Drama for the sake of drama is rarely, if ever, a good thing, and IMO it sure isn't here. You've not next week to pick up that dropped ball and score big, or I am gonna be very disappointed.

They also replace the SHIELD shield with the Hydra logo at the end this time. Also this deserves repeating: What. The. ZOINKS. WARD?!?!

As one of the (apparently few) people who always thought this show was good, this episode was a cut above the rest. So much happened, so much will never be the same. I'm glad I saw Winter Soldier opening weekened so I got the most out of it.

Though it's a bit problematic how

Garret isn't a grand villain in his own right, but just another HYDRA flunky. Kinda defuses some of the intrigue of the whole Clairvoyant plot. Unless later episodes reveal that he was just playing along with HYDRA for his own ends.

I figured was coming the moment Ward insisted he escort Garret. I want to think Ward is just pretending to help Garret, but those two dudes got clear head shots. It's a shame, as Victoria had really proven herself this episode. I always figured it would be Triplett that would also be HYDRA, trying to get close to Simmons to use her for their own ends. But his reaction to Garret's betrayal seemed pretty genuine.
In regards to the future of the show, it's unknown if it'll be renewed for a second season or not. However the showrunners have said this season will end with major things wrapped up with some stuff left open for a continuation (even if they need to go to Kickstarter). Source.

On that point, TV series trackers like IMDb have made season selections for shows getting a next season like Elementary and Castle and such, but they don't have any 2nd season selection for Agents of SHIELD.

So, yeah, possible indicator. :(

I think they should wait till they get the DVD/Bluray sales and digital sales numbers before they make a decision to cancel the show. I think the tie in to the Cap movie will drum up some interest in people who jumped ship mid season, but are waiting for a box set or Hulu/Netflix to get caught up.

I'm still waiting to see what happens this week, but I will say I maintain that the show was really not great in the beginning. The performances, effects, sets, camera work etc were all great. The failure was in the writing. Those early scripts were just weak. With that said around the mid season break the quality of the writing improved dramatically. These last 4 or 5 episodes have all been great. If the show can continue this into the second season I think it will find it's audience again. I'm jazzed for the show again and I really hope they get a chance for a second season.

I'm wondering if Ward might "Vader" Garrett at some point because they do give you a hint of remorse from Ward though he quickly dismisses it. If Garrett starts shooting lightning and telling Ward to give into his anger we can take that as a hint I guess :)

Ward definitely isn't triple agenting Garrett right now because that wouldn't make much sense. I mean they had Garrett. I don't think it was worth murdering three loyal SHIELD agents and setting him free to find out more about HYDRA. Also wouldn't he have just come clean when he arrived at Patton Oswalt's secret COD-athon bunker.

One of the things I am really hoping happens is that

someone shoots Ward in the freakin' face. Ideally, one of the guys on the team.
Even better would be for him to somehow turn on Agent A-hole, and the two of them kill each other off. Or better still, Mike/Deathlok offs them both.
But I still think one of the team should be the one that offs him. Ideally Phil, Skye, or May. Unfortunately, of those three the third looks unlikely, and the second is doubtful, if fitting.
Though speaking of Agent May, that scene near the end where she met up with her mother in the middle of nowhere? Loved it.
That scene was pretty priceless. Though...

Another great episode. They talked about the Darkforce. That was pretty nuts. I'm still hopeful for a Darkhawk appearance. I wonder if they even have the license for that.

I was worried that they would do the Agent Ward enemy among us story for too long, but he made his move already so that's cool. Also I'm starting to like Agent Triplett. I hope they spend more time on him.

R.I.P. Agent Koenig. We kind of all knew you weren't long for this world, but you were fun while you lasted.

I like to call Root by the name Evil Winifred, so yeah. :D (though she's not really evil anymore)

My question is,
Spoiler
Show
why the heck did Hill turn Coulson and his team into the government? She's working for Stark now, and not only did she not turn Fury in, she was also one of the few SHIELD agents he continued to trust after his attempted assassination. It just feels like this contradicts her character as a devoted SHIELD agent especially when the guy she always supported (in the MCU at least) called Coulson out there. What good does it do to turn Coulson in?
But biggest note of the episode, by far, was the line spoken in the next episode preview:

SEASON finale in three episodes.

SHIELD is not done for yet! :D

Between this and the fact that even after some bad power exchanges and corruptions SHIELD continued to exist in the comics, I hope we see SHIELD somehow being rebuilt from the ground up as an official government agency again. This whole incident with SHIELD being dissolved felt off with me from the beginning and I always wondered if they were going to turn things around later.

I agree. It feels like they are setting Ward up for some sort of heroic sacrifice. Even if he was sincerely sorry for all his actions (which I doubt he is) I can't see how they can reintergrate him into the team after he's killed so many agents. May getting welcomed back into the team makes sense. Ward...I can't see anyone welcoming him back now.

Also what is Coulson and his team going to do now. Hill basically cut him loose at the end of this episode. He knows Fury is alive, but Fury is making no effort to get in touch with him. I'm very curious what Coulson's move will be when he has no resources. No flying car. No secret bunker. No intelligence. No fuel for their VTOL aircraft.

Raina: "Skye is just like me on the inside."

So much for building up Ward as a comeback good guy. He shot his dog back so many years ago :( (on Garret's orders I believe) and dropped Fitz and Simmons out of a plane.
Even the dog didn't think he'd do it. :(

Garret was dying from organ failure, but Raina succeeded in replicating the GH serum and shot him up with it. But apparently it did something more potent with him than it did with Coulson and Skye......
Garret: "I can feel the universe."

Episode ends with Coulson, May, Trip, and Skye facing down six Centipede soldiers and a guy with the Berserker staff.

Next Episode: "A season finale that requires a special Marvel guest star." Looks like Samuel L. Jackson might be getting more than just a Marvel One-Shot of screentime. :D.

I might be wrong but I assumed that was the centipede serum kicking in now that it didn't need to do the heavy lifting of keeping Garrett alive anymore. The affect (where Garrett starts glowing red) was similar to the Extremis and Centipede affect we've seen before. If I'm right that means he jumped up to Michael Peterson level just in time for an end boss fight at the end of the season.
