World Cup

Okay, who's watching the World Cup?

I'm about to hit the sack so I can get up at 4.20 AM Australian time to watch our match against Germany.

Go Socceroos!

Re: World Cup

I'm sort of catching bits and pieces of results at times.
I was wondering when someone would make this thread.

A surprising an instance was the England vs USA ending in a draw, that is interesting.

That one's more like a blunder from England's side, when the keeper let 'slip' of the ball he's supposed to hold on and lo, a goal for USA! :D

4-0...

OUCH! I didn't really expect us to win, but I thought we'd do better than that.

What I wanna know is if anyone in this forum collects those World Cup sticker books people seem crazy about. Even the guys at my local pharmacy has 'em.

Found this poll in my dA inbox. Seems appropriate to include it here.

Portugal 7-0 North Korea

Hey, Australia is no longer the team that suffered the worst defeat in this World Cup.

Re: World Cup

So here's to the North Korea team, who will in all likelihood be executed when they get back home.

Re: World Cup

My dad was pretty happy with that result last night, good way to make some pace in the world cup for them.

Re: World Cup

I have quite a few teams that I like rooting for including Brazil, England, South Africa, and BEST KOREA(aka North Korea). Before someone accuse me of being a double crosser, let me explain that neither my country of residence nor my country of origin has made it into the world cup.

As for the South Africa and France match today, I'm very happy about the 2-1 turnout! Serves France right to fight among themselves at a time like this. As for the Korea game yesterday, a 0-0 tie isn't too bad since it could have been much worse. Can you imagine what would have happened to the teams' family if they lost 7-0?

Thanks! :D Team USA needs a lot of rooting right now. Algeria is beatable, but no weak sister team (as Grandpa would have said). It would be nice to get a victory and move upward at 1-0-2.

Re: World Cup

1-0 victory for the USA in stoppage time at that. That combined with an England win means the USA wins, yes wins, group C. Next match is Saturday vs. the group D runner up.

Re: World Cup

Just watched England's win against Slovenia. Looking better, but terrible for a team that has any aspirations of going the distance. Nice to see the USA doing good, as well as the other non-traditional contenders like Ghana and Korea. Brazil is looking good and Argentina looks outstanding. I'm glad the tournament appears to be picking up pace. I've watched about seven games so far and most of it was pretty underwhelming until just recently. Now with competition reaching the round of 16, I hope play will get more intense.

Re: World Cup

Curiously, who here is happy France is gone from the world cup this time?

I am, it might make the game more interesting with one less country renknowned for beating alot of teams who cross their paths.

Re: World Cup

Actually the France vs. South Africa game was one of the more exciting games. I'm not really partial to France staying or leaving, only that the remaining teams make for some great football.

Speaking of which, the Ghana vs. Gertmany game on right now is fantastic. No score in the first 30, but the chances are amazing. This is some of the most compelling play I've seen so far in the World Cup.

Re: World Cup

Australia 2-1 Serbia

We don't qualify for the second round with that score. Oh, well, it was always gonna be tough after losing 4-0 to Germany, but at least we've regained some pride and hopefully respect.

Re: World Cup

I would think so, I mean sure we are out, but we won against Serbia and all.
