So is there any info on how the TFS were actually created in the Muv Luv universe? Often in alternate timeline/history anime we have some explanation for a modern advancement(Eg Macross reverse engineering the alien technology, Code Geass's mystic power influencing and expanding human history, Aldnoah Zero using ancient technology found on Mars,etc.). So who came up with the TFS? Is Muv Luv supposed to have been a more advanced 20th century prior to the BETA(We do see more advanced Lunar equipment than was actually around in the 60s in the first episode of Total Eclipse)?

There is a wiki for Muvluv you can google and see the development history of the TSF.
They were based on a humanoid worker NCAF-X1 unit that was made for lunar operation (Briefly seen in Total Eclipse). But then the BETA attacked. The F-4 was the 1st TSF and heavily armored.
TSFs are pretty much a alternative version of real life jet fighters. In the Muvluv world, instead of jet fighters, mecha were made to fight the BETA.
The course of technology is very different in the world of Muvluv Alternative especially after World war 2 ended and early into the Cold War.
