In the wing TV series the Gatling shoots beams... I'm assuming they are plasma bolts instead of lasers
in the Endless Waltz OVA its switched over to projectile ammo... so how big is the caliber that thing uses? and is there a real world equivalent for it?
also where is it storing all that ammo? in the Glory of losers the gundam has an ammo storage on its left shoulder but in the OVA the ammo storage seems to be nonexistent.

Re: Gundam Heavyarms's - what calibre ammo does its gatling use?
I don't have any model kits for Heavy Arms but the kits often list miscellaneous info like caliber size, location of ammo and line art showing the internals of a MS.
Considering the size of the MS I imagine it's very large compared to today's arsenal. For a real world analogue take a look at the Avenger autocannon. It's mounted on the A-10 close air support, a tank-hunter aircraft.

It's almost never lasers in Gundam and is usually some form of charged particle beam, though some settings get more detailed on the topic and others just shrug and say 'yeah, beams'. Guess which one Wing falls into?
It doesn't have official figures, but if you have sufficiently fine tools or a couple of kits in the same scale you could guesstimate it by measuring the barrel diameter or comparing it to weapons with known calibres. My offhand guess (without any relevant kit to compare to) would be that the main gatling is probably 90mm since the G05 Gundam (which actually has a figure provided for its gatling gun) looks to be about the same size compared to the body as the Heavyarms' guns.in the Endless Waltz OVA its switched over to projectile ammo... so how big is the caliber that thing uses? and is there a real world equivalent for it?
If you just mean 'Where is the ammo?' then the answer is in the boxy bit at the back, which is also where you can see spent casings being ejected from.also where is it storing all that ammo?
If you meant 'Where is it storing the ungodly amount of ammo it burns through?' then the answer is that it stores it in the same place that all of Wufei's suits store their extra arm length and Epyon and Tallgeese III store their heat rods: Magic anime hammerspace.

Haven't been able to turn up any information on the bore of its cannons... it may be one of those details that wasn't ever actually decided.
Even Gundam Perfect File doesn't give any guidance on that note.

One of the freeze frame bonus in Wing is the blue print of Vayeate, the dish connecting to the gun has a part labelled "Minovsky Particle Accelerator"
So it is either shooting Minovsky particles or the compressed to degenerate Mega Particle like in UC.
Same for the RX-78's head vulcans. You have no idea how it stored 500 rounds PER side, even when the official accounts says it uses liquid explosives to fire the rounds.(so it is easier to store the explosives with less space)If you meant 'Where is it storing the ungodly amount of ammo it burns through?' then the answer is that it stores it in the same place that all of Wufei's suits store their extra arm length and Epyon and Tallgeese III store their heat rods: Magic anime hammerspace. :P
I have tried to rationalise this as the rounds being sort and stubby(60mm in diameter but 20mm in length) and still had a hard to fitting all of it into the slightly extended part behind the head.
They likely figured that isn't realistic and thus the Mk-II has the vulcan pod instead.

Gundam Wing also features text grabbed from the instructions for the TWAIN plugin for Photoshop when it's supposed to be showing medical data on Heero, so I'm strongly tempted to take that blueprint with a grain of salt and treat it as an in-joke rather than a serious explanation for the setting's tech.MythSearcher wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 10:41 pmOne of the freeze frame bonus in Wing is the blue print of Vayeate, the dish connecting to the gun has a part labelled "Minovsky Particle Accelerator"

in Endless Waltz there is no boxy bit on the back, in fact there seems to be no container anywhere on the mobile suit thats carrying any ammo for the pair of dual gatlings.Arsarcana wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 4:19 pm If you just mean 'Where is the ammo?' then the answer is in the boxy bit at the back, which is also where you can see spent casings being ejected from.

Yes, but at least that is the only time we see anything explaining what kind of beam they are shooting.Arsarcana wrote: ↑Mon May 10, 2021 12:12 am Gundam Wing also features text grabbed from the instructions for the TWAIN plugin for Photoshop when it's supposed to be showing medical data on Heero, so I'm strongly tempted to take that blueprint with a grain of salt and treat it as an in-joke rather than a serious explanation for the setting's tech.
Since nothing is contradicting that in other settings, that is at least one of the fun data shown.
Well, along with the Gundarium and system upgrades we see on the boot screen of Zero system, they have more UC reference than 08th MS team's AMD on the Apsalus.
Re: Gundam Heavyarms's - what calibre ammo does its gatling use?
that looks incapable of holding any ammo
Re: Gundam Heavyarms's - what calibre ammo does its gatling use?
Yeah it’s just like how, in both the series and EW, Wufei’s machines’ “Dragon Fangs” can extend far longer and shows far more individual segments than should be possible, with no place anywhere the extra segments could possibly be stored on the machine

Which is precisely why I already said 'magic anime hammerspace'...
