Undersea Cities
Undersea Cities
Just how common are Undersea Cities in Gundam? There's Underhook in Victory Gundam (whiich is the only anime that features it) but does anyone know if any of the sidestory Manga/Novel/ Games feature this concept?
Re: Undersea Cities
Although not a city per se, the Gundam Thunderbolt manga features Zeon remnants operating in UC 0080 out of a third Dolos class supercarrier that's submerged under water.

Re: Undersea Cities
I dont think there is any proper city underwater.
According to Destiny Astray, ZAFT operates at least a secret underwater base somewhere in the pacific/indian ocean.

Re: Undersea Cities
As far as I know, Underhook was/is the only underwater settlement mentioned in the Universal Century. It was built as an experimental facility to evaluate the viability of space colonization rather than just as an undersea habitat, so it's likely there aren't any others. The plan was, after all, to move the excess population to space.

Re: Undersea Cities
Underhook being a prototype colonization project makes sense. While it's only shown briefly, the exterior looks kinda like the lunar cities.

Probably inspired by similar projects in real life, like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tektite_habitat funded by NASA.
NASA actually keep working on underwater testing, you also get the newer https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEEMO
Re: Undersea Cities
Also not a city and at the risk of being tarred and feathered for bringing it up, there's the undersea research base Hydro-Gen in G-Saviour.
