The EXAM lineage

With the Pale Rider and its subsequent developments added to the timeline, do you think that we can maybe draw a connection between the EXAM system, the HADES system, the Cyber-Newtype programs with the Psycho Gundam, and finally the NITRO system on the Delta Kai? Not only having the same goal - allowing Oldtypes to possess the abilities of Newtypes - it is very likely that they all inherited and made use of the data from previous researchs.

Re: The EXAM lineage

I'm not very familiar with the post-OYW development of alternative systems based on the EXAM, aside from the fact that the captured Pale Rider would be repurposed into the Todesritter.

However, I do know that the new Blue Destiny manga added a sort of predecessor to the Efreet Custom, though technically it's meant to be a predecessor to the MS-06Z:

http://gundam.wikia.com/wiki/YMS-06Z_Ps ... _Type_Zaku

This machine is supposedly pilot by Marion Welch, the newtype who essentially became the core of the EXAM system.

By the way, supposedly, after the destruction of the last two BD units (units 2 & 3), Marion woke up from her coma, so in theory there shouldn't be anymore EXAM units.

Anyway, the HADES system is supposed to be partially based in the EXAM system, except it doesn't relies on essentially sharing Marion's newtype capabilities with the pilot, which is a plus, but comes with the drawback of causing gradual memory loss.

Now, regarding Cyber-newtypes, the ever increasing & retconned list of test subjects most recently had the OYW addition of two Chimera Corps pilots:

-Uma Lightning
-Ingrid 0

Which already gives Zeon a major head start on the concept right even before the end of the OYW.

All that aside, personally I think the quasi-psycommu system should be considered the most interesting piece of anti-newtype tech. While the machines more commonly associated with it are the AMX-103 Hamma Hamma and AMX-014 Doven Wolf, the system has its origins in the EF's newtype research. I'm not certain if it's specified somewhere which came first, but the first units with the system should be the MRX-011 Mass Production Type Pysco Gundam and the ORX-012 Gundam Mk IV. Incidentally, we could actually accommodate the model numbers of Psyco Gundam series, ORX Gundam series and the Doven Wolf to get this:

MRX-007 Prototype Psyco Gundam
MRX-008 Prototype Psyco Gundam
MRX-009 Psyco Gundam
MRX-010 Psyco Gundam Mk II
MRX-011 Mass Production Type Pysco Gundam
ORX-012 Gundam Mk IV
ORX-013 Gundam Mk V
AMX-014 Doven Wolf

I'm inclined to think that given its size, the MRX-011 (27.2 metros tall) came first and the importance of the ORX-012 might simply be in having miniaturized the quasi-psycommu system so it could be implemented into a regular sized MS. Anyway, the ORX-012 led to the improved ORX-013, which Neo Zeon alter obtained and served as the basis for the Doven Wolf, along the data form the captured MRX-010 and the combat data of the AMX-103.

After the 1st Neo Zeon War some captured AMX-014 until were modified into ARX-014 Silver Bullet & at least one ARX-014P which served to test the Fin Funnels alter used in the RX-93 Nu Gundam. The Silver Bullet lacks the chest beam cannons of the Doven Wolf, and its beam rifle has been modified into a shield. This means that the Silver Bulelt has lost the most powerful weapon in the AMX-014's arsenal, the mega launcher formed by connecting it's beam rifle into it's chest beam cannons. When first deployed, this was the 2nd most powerful beam weapon equipped on a MS, with an output of 40.2 MW, only second to the MSZ-010's Hi Mega Cannon (50 MW), with the third spot taken by the AMX-015 Geymalk's Hyper Mega Particle Gun, with an out put of 30.5 MW.

On the other hand, the Sleeves would produce the YAMS-130 Kraken Zulu and YAMS-132 Rozen Zulu, both of which use the quasi psycommu system of the Doven Wolf with a remote weapons based on the Hamma Hamma's. The later is proven so effective against the General Revil's (the Dogosse Gier class flagship) forces, that I dare say had reached the point where the system could actually be considered to be on apr with a true newtype.

However, the Rozen Zulu takes things a bit further, by incorporating a Psyco Jammer, a system supposed to block psycowaves (which control remote weapons) and disabling the functions of machines that are controlled with psycommu systems or psyco frames. In theory this system should have been the perfect countermeasure against the RX-0, but what would be of the plot if Banagher hadn't to overcome such perfect countermeasure through sheer willpower...

Another bit of trivia: in the novels it is implied that wired remote weapons actually have an advantage over wireless ones when against a newtype. It would seem that Amuro could easily sense the bits, or rather he could sense the psycowaves controlling the wireless bits of the elemth, thus being able to easily shoot them down. However, the same wasn't true for the Braw Bro, introduced after Amuro destroyed two Elmeths in that version, whose remote weapons Amuro can't sense.

The explanation is that since the weapons are wired, Challia Bull is technically not openly sending psycowaves, but transmitting them directly via the wire. In the Gundam Evolve short that is also about the Braw Bro, Amuro can barely dodge the Braw Bro's weapons, unable to shot them down like bits, but once he manages to grab a cable, he then quickly figures out the location of the Braw Bro's main body, indicating that he only managed to read the psycowaves controlling the remote weapons when in direct contact with the wires transmitting the commands.
