Assisted Technologies for Human Adaptation to Space?

I want to ask about the technology that helped the first generation immigrants to fit in with their new environment in UC. Is there any material that mentioned it, and if so, then how advanced is it?

This question has more implication than what it seems at first glance. Most important of all, it explains how the Earth Federation, instead of sending the best and brightest of mankind into space, forced millions poor and exploited people to be the first-generation colonists. Space is an extremely harsh place, both to human's physiology and mental. That is why real-life astronauts spent years just to train for a trip that may lasted for a few months. They are all well-educated, at excellent health, and fully prepared.

Maybe alongside a vast majority of the lower class, each space colony has an Elite groups that take on the job of running the space colony? That will explain the highly-aristocratic society that is the Principality of Zeon.

Note: Anyone notice that in every Gundam series, characters do nothing before they exit or enter the atmosphere? In real-life, before their spaceships return to earth, astronauts have to go through physical training to re-adapt themselves to the surface's condition.

The very first people are the highly educated and middle class people. In the beginning of the colonization project, the immigrants are not forced up there, but volunteered, and mostly pay their own transportation of goods. I don't remember the exact dates, but if I recall right, at least some time in the 0030's things started to change, and EF started to force people to immigrate to space. In mid-0040's came the major split of point of view of spacenoids, where they developed the view of Earth is sacred and to preserve it, all mankind should immigrate to space, yet the EF discovered the major flaw in the original plan of immigrating all people, that is, space colonies are not all the self sustainable, and needed support from Earth, which led to a halt of immigration program in 0051.

I recall there's a little bit more details some where stating at a certain point of time the volunteers became less than the people wanting to move back to Earth(sounded like the 0030's) which forced the EF to change the plans to stop volunteering and started forcing people to space.

But this should answer your problem, there are indeed more educated people up there to begin with.

BTW, I am of the view that UC simply took the 1970's High frontier material to be true and assumed that people have little problem in adapting to the ~1g colonies that are large enough and need nothing special to stay there. Most people inside just need to work industrially and perform simple tasks to maintain a normal society, with some technical support in fixing the air and water circulation systems just like our utilies on Earth, but nothing more.

Yeah, the whole point of Island 3 colonies (the type seen in the Universal Century) is that the living environment is extremely similar to conditions on Earth. Same level of apparent gravity, same general atmospheric makeup (if not quite equal to full sea level pressure, but not unreasonably thin, either), etc. Most of the health issues of real-life astronauts comes from living in microgravity -- remove that, and most of the problems go away.

Supplementary note: O'Neil calculated a 1 metre diameter hole on an Island 3 colony leaking air will take a few hundred years to drop the atmospheric pressure to dangerously low level. Well above reasonable/sufficient time to repair the leak.

Re: Assisted Technologies for Human Adaptation to Space?

So, it is like this: During the last century of the old A.D calendar, colony technology was perfected, and government/governments (whether they have agreed to unify into the federation or not) funded the building of these colonies, with the workers are all professionally trained. The last decade of the A.D and the first of the U.C saw hundred thousands hopeful people migrated to these colonies. The rest is as MythSearcher said above.

Okay, then, what about the matter of resources? Do these builders extract mines near their sites, or transfer the materials from earth to build colonies? And when is the Jupiter Fleet and other resources-carrying fleets become a thing?

Just like the High Frontier plans.
First they built bases on the Moon, mine the resources there and launch them to L2 with mass drivers. With mass catcher in L2, taking the resources and shoot/transport them to other L points and build the first colonies. This is likely in the late years of AD. It should take a few decades at least to build the first Island 3, since the building started in 2045, it is likely to be at least 2070 or 2081(calculated from dates and days of a few published sources) before switching to UC0001.
At the same time, with the help and support from the moon bases, they moved asteroids back to the L points for more resources, these included Luna 2~5, ABQ, Solomon, Pezun, etc.
Von Braun, the first moon city was completed in 0027.

Some of the rare earth metals, fossil fuel products and by-products can only be obtained on Earth(no idea why the REM is limited, but that's one of the reasons of OYW's Earth drop operation)

First Jupiter fleet launched on Oct 0070 and back in Dec 0074.(Pretty fast compared to the CE exploration, which took 7 years to and 7 years back, a total of 14 years, and man, did they spend too little time there doing research.)
I don't think the Jupiter fleet really became a thing until the Jupitris(since it returned in 0087, I assume it sailed sometime in 0083 or maybe even later, since in CDA, it only took them a few months to get back to Earth Sphere from Axis), where they actually built the Jupitris II, knowing the success of it. Before that, the Jupiter fleet seemed to be more like an exploration/adventure, and lots of people in it either died or developed psychiatric problems.
The travelling time had since seemed to decrease by a LOT, and only took a few months to and from Jupiter, and still, Earth seemed to be able to send packages to the Jupitris class on route(Evolve 10) which is an incredible feat.

Re: Assisted Technologies for Human Adaptation to Space?

So the mass driver technology has already been perfected long before U.C 0001? Thanks for letting me know?

That opens up another question, however. If the method of material transportation in the early days of Universal Century did not include spaceship, does that means we can expect the spaceships of that time actually looked less like ship, and more like real-world rockets and shuttles? Or maybe by then they had already perfected the use of nuclear engine in spaceships, and therefore could build ships the size of two or three stadiums (A.K.A there were military-use warships in the scale of Columbus and Magellan-class before U.C 0070?)

Don't know about that early, but Nuclear Fusion generators do exists before Dr. Minovsky discovered the M particles. Magellan did exist before the discovery of the particle. The plan started about 9 years earlier than the discovery of the particle and 4 years before the discovery of the strange effect in the Minovsky Ionesco generator.

The UC0001 Salamis looks like this: http://www.mahq.net/mecha/gundam/unicor ... alamis.htm
Definitely not the scale of UC0070 ships.

That reminds me: It is said somewhere that Dr. Minovsky witnessed the Chernobyl meltdown during his childhood. So it can only means that they built another nuclear plant on the ruin of the old one... Yeah...

That version is not canon.
It appears in the manga Stampede, which has an AD-UC switch year in 1969, but the official timeline had the switch after 2045(not in, but after)
