zeta's shield and waverider form

just started watching zeta and this question pop into my mind, since his shield is not like the shield of the wing gundam which is almost indestructable due to it being ade of gundanium, the shield of the zeta is just a regular shield applied with anti beam coating. so would the zeta's waverider form be rendered useless if it's shield is somehow destroyed or lost?

It could still fly. It would have increased air resistance due to exposed, un-streamlined sections, but waverider mode would still work. Landing would also be hard since the forward landing strut is located in the shield but switching to MS mode would alleviate that issue.
