Interesting to find out why its actually called "Mars Rays", though I find Flit helping the Vagans avoid dieing from them rather surprising. Maybe his grandson begged him to do it.

I'm not even sure EVERS can even properly call itself an acronym.

Done with chapter 9B of Exa-log. Rogue Bat sure got a surprising nickname...

Explorations of space resources first started after the establishment of the EF government and were carried out using small drones that were sent to the asteroid fields close to earth. The end of the Vagan war and establishment of ties with the Martian sphere then presented an opportunity to expand the exploration operations to other parts of the solar system. An important person connected to the development in this field was the leader of the Bisidian pirates, Asemu Asuno aka Captain Ash. He had correctly predicted that with the rejuvenation of the space colonies and expansion of the associated enterprises, there would be insufficient resources to meet the demand and thus a sharp rise in their prices.

Originally, space pirates were a motley crew who were brought together by their anti-EF sentiments. In addition, all of them also have strong feelings for space and an independent streak. After the war, although the Bisidian pirates received special amnesty from the EF, Asemu noticed that his crew had become restless. He then decided to modify their ship, Baronche, and all their remaining MS into space resource exploration use machines as he felt that the field fit their characters well. Using his connections within Madorna Workshop and various colonial governments, Asemu managed to negotiate with the EF government and other related parties Bisidian’s entry into the space resource development industry. One of the results was the development of space resource exploration use MS, Rogue Bat. This MS was created by Madorna Workshop and was basically a modified version of Shaldoll Rogue.

Rogue Bat’s head is equipped with powerful sensors that can detect UV to IR light emitted from the surface of asteroids and other space rocks for a long duration. The wings on its back serve to increase the MS’s AMBAC capability and contain broad range active radio sensors that are specialised for space resource exploration purposes. The multipurpose beam emitter system on its right arm is for self defense and through fine adjustment of its output can be used for various purposes, such as obtaining resource samples, drilling, seismic measurements through the firing of a strong beam and other activities that are required for geological studies. To facilitate independent long distant mission, 2 fuel tanks can be attached to the wings and the cockpit is also enlarged for increased comfort. Besides Bisidian pirates, the MS are also supplied to other companies in the industry and it won over many pilots, even earning the nickname ‘nurse maid’.

Asemu subsequently transferred the resources he discovered to his crew members, allowing the business to expand to other parts of the solar system. This then led to the term, ‘Bisidian Connection’, being a popular word in the space resource development industry for quite some time. In fact, some of the present large resource development companies have its roots with the Bisidian pirates.

Some information for G-xiphos snake sword:

Modification of the manipulator component into an attachment point is devised by the technicians from the Madorna Workshop. This allows the MS to be equipped with a variety of equipment depending on the situation. Snake sword is one of the customised equipment for G-xiphos and is difficult to master. It can confuse the opponent in close quarter combat and allows G-xiphos to gain the initiative in the attack. The shield’s skull emblem as well as its beam gun and large claws, provide this weapon with both deterrent and destructive power.

A few new things. Firstly, here's chapter 10 of exa-log

The reconstruction of the legendary MS, ‘The Gundam’, is one of the projects initiated to commemorate the end of the Vagan war in AG 201. It is also a part of the historical and cultural protection program promoted by the EF government. The project receives help from Earth-Mars peace science foundation and is led by the Gundam Museum’s lead researcher, Albert Ferguson. In recent years, the project see significant developments as the majority of the core researchers in the field of MS archaeology gathered together to work on it.

‘The Gundam’ is a MS that is depicted in the legends of numerous heritages as the saviour that ended the interplanetary (?) wars and brought peace before the establishment of the Silver Chalice Treaty. An amazing example is that in the region around Tordia, there is a legend about a white MS defeating an evil dragon with its sword. It can be said that the legend has crossed the boundary of reality and into the area of myths, and the spread of such a ridiculous myth was the result of the information control and abandonment of war technology, including MS, caused by the Treaty.

In order to remove such myth like information and to get a step closer to the real image of ‘The Gundam’, the reconstruction project used empirical methods often employed in MS archaeology to conduct a detailed inspection of the vast historical data. There are also large quantities of quality information regarding the development of ‘The Gundam’ in the house of the Asuno family; such as the remains of the portrait of ‘The Gundam’ which was damaged during the early days of the Vagan war and the voice recordings of Flit Asuno, all of which are critical to the outcome of the project. Furthermore the Vagans, who have established ties with earth, gave the researchers access rights to the EXA-DB under their care, allowing them to know more about the technologies used in producing standard MS before the Silver Chalice treaty. This then provides the researchers with confidence that they could reconstruct ‘The Gundam’ using the technologies of that time with a good degree of accuracy.

Despite all these, it is still difficult to restore all the lost information and as a result certain area requires estimation and might not be that reliable. In times like this, the researchers used AGE-1 as a reference as it is a product of the AGE System, which contains all the knowhow of the Asuno family, and existed before the Treaty. In addition, based on the researchers’ knowledge and understanding, AGE-1’s development characteristics are the closest to those of ‘The Gundam’ as it is AGE System’s earliest design. Thus, the fully reconstructed ‘The Gundam’ bears a lot of similarity with AGE-1 in terms of its design, concept, structure, etc.

As very little data exists beyond the machine itself, its only known weapon on record is a sword, which is referenced in things like the Tordia myth as well as in the remains of the damaged portrait. The reconstruction is thus carried out using this information. The sword is tentatively named ‘Excalibur’ and is reconstructed to be as accurate as possible, based on information collected about such weapons that were used in the past. It is impossible to replicate the technologies used then faithfully, but the sword is created using the most advanced material engineering and metallurgy techniques currently available.

Next, background of AGE-1 Unit 2 from the Unknown Soldier story

AGE-1 Unit 2 was built to help test out the Assault Jacket and was assembled from Unit 1’s spare parts. When Unit 1 was built, the AGE Builder followed AGE System’s proposal and created a large amount of spare parts. The EF military then had doubts about the results of the AGE System and took custody of these parts. Their plan was that after conducting multiple tests using Unit 1, the data gathered would be used to modify the spare parts and create a ‘perfect’ Unit 2. However, Unit 1 produced shocking results during the tests and was what one can call as perfect. This then caused the technicians to hesitate if they should follow the original plan. In the end, the spare parts were sent to the military’s R&D department for research purposes.

The sudden proposal to build Unit 2 came around the same time as a formal review was being conducted regarding the manufacture of a mass production version of AGE-1. AGE-1’s technologies had been successful applied on existing MS numerous times but the analysis of the AGE System was lagging, and this caused the mass production plan to stagnate. The plan, now known as the ‘New AGE project’ received much needed boost when Flit formally joined the R&D department and then expanded to the construction of Unit 2. The military claimed that the advancement was due to the ‘magic of the Asuno family’ but in reality, it was due to the official participation of numerous well know MS workshop, including Madorna Workshop, under Flit’s name. Flit then persuaded Largan to pilot the Gundam but he did not tell him that it was Unit 2 and was quite apologetic about it.

Lastly, the story's description of Assault Jacket.

Assault Jacket was designed for attacking fortress like Ambat. It is a set of heavy equipment that placed heavy emphasis on fire power but it also contains additional thrusters for effective usage. As a result, AGE-1AJ and AGE-1AJ/2 possess both high speed and excellent mobility despite their bulky looks.

Since it doesn't really belong in the Anime topic... is that really supposed to be the Legilis R in Memory of Eden and somebody in the animation department didnt get the memo about how it has different equipment? Because the suit seen in the PV has Legilis R's colors but lacks the bit control 'spikes' and retains the rifle/shield combo of the original model. Kind of a pointless gimmick if it's just a recolor.

We have the Bandai Web Store-exclusive HG Gundam Legillis Memory of Eden Ver, and it's just a recolor of the regular HG Legillis, so that's indirect confirmation of it being a recolor.

Here's the translation of the AGE-1 Assault Jacket's MS profile.

Like the Wear system, the Assault Jacket is created to increase AGE-1’s versatility, but unlike the former, the AGE System is not involved. It is developed independently by the military’s R&D department and the basic concept is proposed by Dique Gunhale, who joined the EF after the Battle of Ambat. Assault Jacket focuses on upgrading AGE-1’s offensive and defensive capabilities; it also features enhanced sensors (not sure if this is correct), better weapons’ accuracy, and thrusters with higher endurance that allows the MS to operate longer. As it is still in testing stage, it can be equipped on other MS. Final form of the Assault Jacket is created with the development of the Glastron launcher and is known as ‘Full Glansa’. AGE-1 Unit 2 that is built alongside the Assault Jacket can be somewhat thought of as a model for Adele.

Edit: Fix the name

I know it's a bit late to be asking this, but this seemed like a better thread than making one its own. Does the spinning mechanic of the DODS system make sense? The beams in AGE I assume are particle accelerators like the other beam weapons in Gundam, would making the packed particles 'spin' without dispersing somehow be plausible and/or even useful in a more realistic scenario?

@Xenosynth: Age's characters rarely make sense, don't ask the sataff to make plausible physics.

The only logic I could find to the DODS is that its plama container is spiral shaped, like a drill bit.

Well, I'm not so much asking about the actual device doing it. I just mean, would particles spinning when fired from a particle accelerator actually make any difference with penetration, etc.

There's more kinetic energy presumably, how much more effective....I dunno probably not that more effective though I'm no expert in the matter.

I always got the impression that while the DODS relies on this mechanism, it's overall effectiveness of the system relies on other stuff like an overall increase in energy output. There could be some actual improvements to the actual beam particles aside from just the spinning around.

I know when the DODS acronym was revealed to us, some have speculated that the "orbital" might refer to more than just the "spiral" effect since orbital is also a term used in chemistry and electron related stuff.

Sciences aside, personally I always find the "drill" effect to be pretty cool in general. Not just in terms of looks but concept to put in an anime. I always imagined it to be some sort of magical pierce effect the AGE System figured out and added to the beam alongside the spinning.

In guessing it's probably vey specific type of technology and effect since it was not applied Photon Blaster technology used on the Sigmaxiss. Assuming that whatever so special about the Photon Blaster is so super that it made the DODS spinning effect redundant, it looks like they're mutually exclusive technology.

Not that I know how the Photon Blaster works either.....photon is supposed to be just light or stuff that moves at that speed anyways. Assuming the name's a hint of how the tech supposed to work and not just a fun/symbolic name in universe.

Actually there was the Swordia Wear on the development chart of the Mechanics and World book way before we knew it'd appear. Other curious units are the Genoace Cannon and the Perfect Defurse(evolution of the Xamdrag, now with long legs). The last sensible cameo would be the G-Xiphos, since it got a model with the anime logo instead of Sid manga one, therefore becoming official.

It's like an AGE Mechanics book or something. Amazing, thanks balofo.

What that AGE-2 wear at the bottom of the last scan? It reminds me of 00 Raiser bit and I don recall seeing it before. Must have been one of those many game wears I just sorta missed.

Exactly - both the AGE-2 wears at the bottom are from videogames - I'm not sure which of the two you're referring to, but the yellow one is the AGE-2 Phoenix, the white one is the AGE-2 Seraph.
