GPO-2 Backup Weapons....

Post by fire_lupine » Sun Jul 01, 2012 11:54 pm

Once the nuke is fired...is it really only left with the saber and the vulcans?

I've only caught the bit of it where the GPo1 gets trashed and then Kou takes the GPO1fb out against the Val-Varo ...Are the GPO2's vulcans really that damaging to other mobile suits?

yes it has thick armor and the beam saber...but if the enemy stays out of CQC range..it can plug away at the GPO2 till it dies correct?

GP02 looks fat, but it's fast. And it has good defences.

Streaming probably won't happen anytime soon but the DVDs shouldn't be hard to find at decent prices.

The intent for the GP02A was to have the GP01 escort the unit. the only armaments it has are 2 beam sabers and the vulcan guns.

Yeah, the GP02's sole purpose is delivery of a nuclear warhead; any other weapons are incidental and only for absolutely critical defense. Over the years some side-sources have handed it extra weapons; Super Robot Wars occasionally gives it the same beam rifle as the GP01, there have been two different beam bazookas (one EFF and one Zeon), and most recently there was the MLRS. But for the base GP02A, all it's supposed to do is nuke, and defend itself if someone tries to stop it.

See, here is the problem with this question.

Once the NUKE is fired. THE NUKE. It's not like us saying "Once the beam rifle is destroyed"

It's once we've fired a weapon of mass destruction which makes a sizable area and everything in it glow for several centuries.

Firing that nuke pretty much ends any fight.

Yeah, except you don't use a nuke in a standing fight, unless you want to join your opponent as atomic dust.

The GP-02A was an single mission prototype it was optimized to deliver one nuke an target survive and get home. the only concession was it received the standard RX-78 built in weapons 2X vulcan guns and 2x beam sabers. the intent may have been to have the GP01 provide escort to the target.

Or, to put it another way, the GP02 was designed to be used by the Federation, with its shiny new space fleet and superior resources, not the bedraggled Zeon remnants. So far as the Federation is concerned, having a special unit wander on in, nuke something, and then wander on out while GMs do the clean-up is entirely doable.

I imagine the GP02's place in battle is similar to the Nahel Argama's hyper mega particle cannon, as used in Unicorn Episode 3. That's probably the same reason why the GP02 concept was never really pursued again.

all the EFSF gave for the design spec was to have an gundam fire an nuke and survive being near ground zero. whats telling is the fact that the bazooka's model number is the only part with an reference to former zeonic staff being involved.
