MSG novel tech question
So I just finished Chapter 2 of the MSG novel and I noticed a difference on the description of the workings of the Gundam's rifle. The novel talks about concentrating and accelerating heavy metal particles whereas I believe most traditional descriptions say beam weapons run on pure Minovsky particles (or GN particles for 00). Significant or just a quirk?

I swear, if a single one of you makes a Dragonforce joke...Arbiter GUNDAM wrote:heavy metal particles
That said, a weapon firing a beam made of molten metal would be closer to the Thanix cannons from Mass Effect;
But no, beam cannons/rifles in UC fire mega particles, which are, by nature, minovsky particles compressed and fused into a high energy state.Contrary to popular belief, Sovereign's main gun was not a directed energy weapon. Rather, its massive element zero core powered an electromagnetic field suspending a liquid iron-uranium-tungsten alloy that shaped into armor-piercing projectiles when fired. The jet of molten metal, accelerated to a fraction of the speed of light, destroys targets by impact force and irresistible heat.

The novels were written before the technical details of mega particles had been established. And by "established," I mean "made up."

As Mark said Tomino wrote the book before the mainstream Tech info, which was most likely written by a range of people over a period of time (Mark probably knows who and when).
The Novel is an alternate to the Anime so any inconsistencies are just quirks of the author.

Wait, you're telling me Minovsky physics is all made up and not a real branch of science that we just lack the means to explore at present? You're breaking my heart here!

I sense a translation typo here.

You sense wrong. Like I said, they hadn't made up the current technological back story yet.AnimeMun wrote:I sense a translation typo here.
Most of the current UC science info comes from Gundam Century, first published in 1981. Before then, there was no indication that "mega particle cannons" were anything other than regular particle cannons with a cool adjective tacked on front.

But didn't MPCs not come out till a little AFTER the first edition of Gundam Century?
