Pre-0070 Federation Warships

I have a question, it kinda has to do with something I have planned in the works.

Prior to the 70's Armament Reinforcement Plan in the Universal Century, did the Federation have any space warships, or were their space-based battleships all built afterwards?

The 70s Reinforcement plan involved adding mega beam cannons and Minovsky reactor engines to the existing fleet of Salamis cruisers and Magellan battleships iirc.

Are you sure? The main articles say they were first deployed in 0070

According to the current timeline, the Salamis and Magellan were introduced in U.C. 0070, just a couple of months after Zeon developed the mega particle cannon and two years before Doctor Minovsky defected to the Federation. Logically, then, these ships wouldn't have been modernized until after U.C. 0072.
