I couldn't help but see Giant Instrumentality Rei when I saw Giant Madoka. I was kinda hoping Madoka would pull an Instrumentality and turn everyone into piles of Morning Rescue. The general bleakness of the series also veered me away from TTGL vibes.

Though to each their own. I think of Nanoha being the TTGL of Magical Girl shows, myself.
