Re: Pacific Rim the movie (2013) - Guillermo del Toro

My argument is that this movie does deliver. It's a good movie (not just a good giant robot movie). It just is marketed poorly. Let me put it to you this way, my mother, stepdad, cousin, my cousin's friend, my wife, my friend and my friends little sister all saw the movie this week. They all loved i...

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

Have either of you guys read anything by Joe Abercrombie? The First Law Trilogy and it's spin offs (Best Served Cold, Heroes and Red Country) are a big recommend from me. In case anyone is curious they should be read in that order (TFL->BSC->H->RC).

I hated RahXephon, but loved Big-O. So far I have a 50 percent sync rate with you. I'm guessing we aren't drift compatible :)

Re: Pacific Rim the movie (2013) - Guillermo del Toro

I'm alright with how the movie is doing. I was originally angry about the weak marketing and lame trailers, but I guess it didn't really matter. According to box office mojo we are two weeks in and it's almost made back it's money (global sales appear to be making up for the luke warm US reception)....

Re: Comic Books (other than manga)

In response to South Burning's Stormwatch experience I'd recommend paying attention to the writers and follow them. The heart of the Stormwatch experience comes from Warren Ellis' run IMO. If you follow him around you get that level of quality on any of the books he writes for, but when other people...

Re: Pacific Rim the movie (2013) - Guillermo del Toro

if you are visiting the mecha talk boards you should see this movie. You are the target audience. I loved it. Is there action? Yes lots of action. Are there lots of good character moments? Yes I loved all the characters (even the kind of bland Raleigh). Everyone goes through an arc so it has more su...

2 thumbs up from me. I didn't think this movie was possible from within the Hollywood system.

When Mako engaged the sword icon I smiled so hard. Also Gipsy did a Rocket Punch :)

Re: Ep. 051: Studio Ghibli & E3

I saw Grave Of The Fireflies when it aired on the old Sci Fi channel anime block. Watched it with my mother and brother and it still tears us up. It was mentioned that most US war movies glorify war. I would say that's true of WWII, and the war of independence. Most other US wars are not remembered ...

Re: Fixing Wonky Gashapon

I've never had to straighten a Gashapon kit, but I have received some resin model kits that were warped due to heat in the past. What usually works is hot water or a hair dryer. You heat up the material and bend it back gently until it cools. I believe how successful this method will be depends heav...

Re: Should I buy a PS2 just to play the Xenosaga trilogy?

The first game was great (complete with tracks by Yasunori Mitsuda a composing god). The execution of the second game killed the franchise for me. I really couldn't finish the second game. I hear (as Quiddity states) that the third game redeems the series. Following the RL drama of the development o...

Re: Macross Kit suggestions

Thanks for the advice guys. That was precisely what I was wondering (whether the transformation caused issues with the model). I have a couple Bandai transforming gundam models and they all tend to have issues with poseability (and stability), which is a big turn off to me. I think I'm going to go f...

Macross Kit suggestions

Was looking around on Hobbylink Japan at VF kits, and I realized that I had almost no knowledge on any of them. The frontier kits looked really nice. I was thinking about picking up a VF-1 and perhaps a VF-25 kit, but I couldn't decide which ones to get. I need some guidance to steer my purchase. Ca...

Re: Chaos Theater Mailbag Drop Box

What is your guys' take on English dubbing for anime music. I'm personally torn. I can understand wanting to hear the original artist, but I also remember fondly stuff like Melissa Fahn's work on El Hazard, Sharyn Scott and Scottie Haskell's work on Tenchi Muyo as well as many others. For those who ...

I spent several year working in the El Segundo area (though I don't live there anymore). I use to go to Meltdown comics on sunset blvd all the time, but that is too far of a drive from Huntington Beach. I did go to Brookhurst Hobbies (http://www.brookhursthobbies.com, 12188 Brookhurst Street Garden ...

Re: Episode 003: The Wheel of Time

I've been interested in starting the Wheel Of Time series, but the number of books you need to read to get caught up at this point is intimidating. Also part of it was fear that I might get invested in a story that might not ever actually see a conclusion. I was very invested in King's Dark Tower se...

Re: Ep. 071 - The False and the Forgotten

I love Robot Carnival. I loved it so much after I saw it on the Saturday morning anime block that I bought one of the dubious Chinese releases for it when Sci Fi stopped airing it. Since there is very little dialogue in it there wasn't much reason not to get it (well except for Presence, which has a...

Earthbound is perhaps my favorite RPG (My brother and I also fished it out of a bargain bin when we were younger). Any game that allows you to plays as a little kid, eat burgers out of garbage cans, and hit garden snakes with a baseball bat is a winner in my book. Also the Runaway Five were awesome....

Re: Ep. 068 - Christmas Bebop!

While Cowboy Bebop might be a bit overexposed now in the states considering the Cartoon Network aired it to death, it's still on my list of top ten favorite anime series. For some reason I never get tired of watching it. Ballad Of The Fallen Angels is definitely my favorite episode. The pace of that...
