Hmm, well, I can think of some instances but differently to what we're talking about here. Rurouni Kenshin and Saint Seiya, for example, both saw their TV series killed prematurely due to the public intentionally not watching the show and picking up the manga. Both were at their peak of manga popula...

Jesus, why does this thing about monocoque keep coming up? Because it has been the accepted standard for at least 20 years and only recently have things changed, that's why. Keep that text there archived for situations like this and simply post it back up when needed. Also, however frustrating it m...

Jesus, why does this thing about monocoque keep coming up? I know you're asking mostly about the post-CCA era, but monocoque simply doesn't figure as a possibility. According to the current tech of the Universal Century, no Mobile Suits ever had Monocoque frames. It has been quietly swept under the ...

I think it's possible to have a female lead in mecha anime, but I too find it unlikely in Gundam, considering the trends. The closest we've had in a TV series, I believe, are Kihel and Dianna in Turn-A, but of course we're not talking pilots here, but main characters. And Turn A was not exactly the ...

Well, there is a difference between the first anime I watched and what got me into anime... The first anime I watched was Mazinger Z, when I was 4 or so on TV (back in Argentina). A few years later I watched all of Robotech, which I loved and cemented my love for giant robots (alongside Transformers...

God, I have a question so tiny yet somewhat significant I am not entirely sure whether it'll be even within remit or not, but here it goes. What about Mobile Suit tech development in the UC? I dare say some of it was accidental rather than planned, in the sense that certain MS's features and weapons...

I'm actually arguning beyond the mecha topic. It just that in the West, most robots are industial robots in GM factories. Other robots are defense useage, like bomb disposible, or space reserch, like the Martian Rover. But in Japan, they want to build robots with two legs. Not much real use with tw...

Well, I'd say the near future will include some more CCA kits. They wouldn't release the Geara Doga if there wasn't an intention of releasing the more popular MS of that era, ie the Sazabi and Nu Gundam. Other than that, we MAY get an Efreet Custom to go with the Blue Destiny units, but I wouldn't c...

I'm surprised nobody brought up the Gouf Flight Types yet... At any rate, there are indeed very few MS that can actually fly. The V Gundam series as well as the V2 Gundam can both hover without thruster assistance due to the usage of the Minovsky drive. Zanscare MS are basically helicopters, only wi...

To be perfectly honest, I'm looking forward to it more than anything else anime-wise. I am, of course, a huge Evangelion fan. However, in recent years my appreciation of the TV series has declined, in no small part due to the increasing quality of the manga. The manga starts off quite similar to the...

The Apsalus is meant to allow for both enough escape velocity to reach at least the upper atmosphere, as well as the intense friction of re-entry. I cannot think of any Mobile Suits that have that kind of thrust power, neither in UC nor the AU. Maybe the Messala, which has enough thrust to withstand...

Clearly, then, this stuff is just as confusing for Japanese fans. Judging from this example, they seem to have concluded that MS Igloo is an official filmed work, and that published references aren't official even if Sunrise says they are. :-) -- Mark Dammit, it does get complex... I thought Igloo ...

Well, considering how one of the biggest plot 'oversights' is covered in the first Astray story, it's better if they're considered official, really. I was going to ask, however, has there been any discussion on supplemental print materials, ie the 0079 novelisations roman albums and the like? I ask ...

That was a rather interesting post, Mark. Thanks for that! I have to agree with what you say, in that Western fans will take as canon whatever they like since the definition is so loose (and since even Sunrise are not 100% on what's official, considering that vast grey area...). I do find it strange...
