Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
We don't actually have much information about Sentinel weaponry, aside from the occasional reference to the beam smartgun using an energy CAP. (In fact, the MG kit manual identifies the block at the rear of the gun as an energy pack.) To me, the bulbs at the ends of the S Gundam's backpack cannons r...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
I don't think we can assume that each of those connectors on the Ex-S backpack is limited to supporting 12 MW worth of beam weapon. After all, there's a configuration of the Core Booster 0088 that has a beam smartgun mounted on a single connector. Most likely, it doesn't matter. On the other hand, g...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Yes, apparently the Ga-Zowmn's hyper knuckle buster uses an E-pack, while those of the Gaza C and Gaza D are connected directly to the generator. So essentially the hyper knuckle buster is a beam rifle, and if E-CAP and E-pack weapons are extra-powerful relative to their listed power output, this wo...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Aaaaand one more followup. In considering all these various permutations of beam rifles, I'm wondering about the ZZ and the Doven Wolf, which really stick out for having vastly overpowered beam rifles. (Nothing else in ZZ goes much over the 4 MW mark.) Do we know for a fact that these so-called &quo...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
It's also possible that we could honor the written descriptions and (selectively) discard the output specs for the CCA weapons. To be honest, some of those figures are pretty wacky, and they only ever appeared in the old kit manuals and Entertainment Bible 3 - they weren't part of the original publi...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
That's a bit beyond the original scope of this thread, but I guess I didn't specify "UC Gundam Tech Tidbits." :-) I think the Data Collection book on Gundam Wing mentioned that they use fusion reactors, but as far as I know X and G are much less clear, and MAHQ probably just copy-pasted th...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
That explanation doesn't sound very convincing, specially when we have units such as the MS-09RS and MS-09H which are known to operate beam weapons without any sort of cable connecting to the chests section. I agree - it's not a very convincing explanation, given that we've never seen any UC mobile...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Aha, a source cite at last! Thank you! Here's what it says in the MG kit manual... A slashing weapon that instantly forms a heat-generating element from high polymer compounds stored in the grip that have undergone a shape memory process, thus forming a huge superheated sword. As the main components...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Hmmm, I might not have made myself clear enough. I mean the 10MW in the chart has already added the energy from the e-cap, but just that in the test itself isn't really using an e-cap for efficiency purposes. Sure, but that still means that the output specs we have for every other weapon are basica...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
I am to the view that te input voltage meaning more like the actual pressure given to the M praticles. during the testing of the beam rifle effective range, it may not be using a e-cap at all(since that will be rather inefficient), but just testing the rifle's ability. So if you test it out at that...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
On comparing E-CAP weapons to standard mega particle cannons: If we take the PG manual of RX-78 into account, the beam rifle of RX-78 maybe able to get up to 10MW output.(from p.9 figure with output power against effective range & destructive power) Which would not be very far off from the 12MW-...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
This seems to be one of those things that's pretty clear from the animation and yet denied by the Japanese publications. Kind of like how the Nu Gundam's fin funnels obviously form a physical barrier (basically an early version of the beam shield) and yet the published sources insist that it's just ...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Yeah, for the most part it seems physically impossible that mobile suit fusion reactors would actually "melt down" or somehow undergo a nuclear explosion. They do seem to react violently when hit by beam weapons, but the Japanese publications normally claim that's just the propellant, fuel...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
If we take those Nu Gundam power outputs seriously - which I don't think we necessarily have to, since they come from the kit manuals and Entertainment Bible 3 rather than being part of the original published specs - then they're actually really strong evidence for the theory that these "output...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
An addendum: I noticed some references in the Japanese websites to the Gundam 0083 drama CD ("Artillery Battle at Lunga" or however you care to translate it), so I went and looked that up. There's some interesting stuff in the booklet! For starters, we get Aristide Hughes's reminiscences a...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Definitely an interesting side discussion! This is all going to be a bit vague and contradictory, since the world of Gundam techno-backstory is currently in a pretty bad state of repair. Aside from the MG and HG-UC kit manuals, there's been very little genuinely new information on UC mobile suit tec...

Re: Late UC Reactors: switch to He3-He3?
The He3-He3 reaction would have heavier reactants (6.03 mass units versus 5.03 mass units), and it produces barely 2/3 as much energy per reaction, so this seems like it would be inferior in terms of fuel efficiency. I've seen some Japanese publications claiming that, from F91 onwards, the fuel used...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
It's not recharged by the mobile suit's reactor. Remember that the beam bazooka has its own internal generator that provides the energy (i.e. Minovsky particle) supply - all it needs from the mobile suit is electrical power.

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Well, we know that there are two ingredients to activating a UC beam weapon - a supply of energy in the form of Minovsky particles, and the electrical power required to compress the particles into mega particles and fire them out of the weapon. Since E-caps store particles in a pre-compressed form, ...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Regarding the Gelgoog beam machine gun (the one used by the MS-14Jg, but also included for the MS-14A in the original MG kit), if it has a power condenser instead of an E-Cap (or beside one), does that mean that the weapon can actually replenish it's mega particles as long as its connected to a MS ...
