Re: How niche was mecha in America before Transformers?

I didn't even know Speed Racer was Japanese until I was in my teens in the 00s. And I'm not even from America. Even now I still see it as mainly American series even though I know the original is Japanese. I am just that wedded to the dub version. Also helped that the show actually has a strong West...

Re: what kind of paint do MS use in their world?

Nanomachines son! (in Gundam 00 anyways) Well, PD also use nanolaminate paint. I would say the only main similarity between the two is that they both operate at the nanometer scale. Otherwise the tech are very different seemingly. The nanomachines paint in Gundam 00 can actively change the color at...

Re: Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans MSV is Here!

If Urðr-Hunt gets translated to English I'll try it because I super love IBO and wouldn't pass a chance at a sidestory with original animation of it. Moreso if the anime staff came to work on it like in this case.

Re: Color of Beam Sabers

2nd Mechanics uses 緑 (midori) and 赤 (aka) respectfully. It's a small table so they just state the kanji for the Color section and just leave it at that. For what it's worth Page 39 of 1st Mechanics (which exclusively covers Season 1 stuff) has a similar chart that also uses the same kanjis 緑 (midori...

Re: Color of Beam Sabers

(AFAIK, the only Gundam setting where there is an actual in-universe explanation for the color difference is Anno Domini, where beam weapons powered by true GN drives are pink and those using Tau drives are red or orange.) Yeah pretty much, the sourcebooks in the series confirms the color so it's n...

Re: The Official Gundam: The Witch from Mercury Anime Thread Mk I

Is it possible for the pandemic to have disrupted that pattern though? I'm sure production schedules would have some disruption these almost two years. Especially if the episode count turns out to be one cour (very unlikely historically but always a possibility) than the usual two or four.

Re: Practicality of Seatbelts in Zero Gravity

In 00, one of the sourcebooks/sidestory note they have some sort of system on the surface of the seat where it will keep you still even high forces act on you but if the pilot just moves slowly to get up (say when the mobile suit is parked) then they can get up easily. This is somewhat akin like how...

here's hoping the MC is a female MS pilot. heck, we might even get some Yuri pair. i'm all for that~ Yuriism aside, the only example i can think of that has some peeps living on mercury is Sailor Moon. and that was the backstory/past. are there any other shows that heavily featured Mercury with a s...

Re: Unique Mechs.

The mechs don't get a lot of screen time within the show; which is a shame really because they're so cool and detailed It is possible that the reason they were so detailed was because they were not planned to have many appearences. It's a novel released in chapters, followed by accompanying photos to help tell the story. Mainly text based.

Manga tells the story entirely by panel pictures with light text to represent dialogue or thoughts. Mainly visual based.

Re: Which units in the Gundam 00 universe are confirmed to have/use GN composite armor?

So, minor update but while discussing and researching a different 00 tech topic with someone, came across a chart in the Final Mechanics book that links GN Drive and GN Drive Tau with "Armor" usage. Basically the chart explains the typical energy flow of Original/Tau Drive MS. I drew a cha...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

Also, it's not like TLJ was some rogue production. Lucasfilm approved of his script and let him do what he wanted, so they obviously didn't have a problem with his approach then. Yes I agree, Chris. Not an unapproved rogue more like someone who wanted to take it in a very different than Abrams' fee...

Re: The Official Macross Delta Anime Thread Mk I

It really doesn't feel like anyone bothered to plan it out at all, and after The Force Awakens was poorly received by its die-hard fans the writing process became reactive rather than proactive. JJ Abrams did write a full treatment for the two sequels as a guideline but Rian Johnson really wanted t...

Re: Things that makes a mech looks "cheap" or "industrial"

For me, one aspect I use personally is that the closer it looks to a normal human, the less cheap it looks since presumably in these cases the human look is the ideal visually, and likely requires the use of more advanced technogy and/or costs. This is assuming the category itself is humanoid mechs ...

Re: Strength of Mobile Suit Types?

The Graze Ritter from IBO is also a ceremonial type, with almost no sortie records and battle data prior to what we see in the show. Specs wise it's actually more mobile than the regular Graze, as a result for being tuned for orbital combat. Aside from pilots being trained in nice looking aerial for...
