Re: What books are you reading?

Once again catching up, I finished The Forever War , which I greatly enjoyed. After that, I read a pair of old biographies on Patton and MacArthur (By H. Essame and Gavin Long, respectively) that I last read in 2001 (When I was in 5th grade 8)), which were pretty interesting after all these years. S...

Re: What books are you reading?

Heir to the Empire 's 20th Anniversary Edition was as enjoyable as I expected. The annotations were pretty cool on how the book was written and other odds and ends, and the extra short story included with it was pretty good too. I also knocked out Stephen Colbert's America Again , which was really ...

Re: The disappearance of E-Packs?

I still don't see the disconnect between funnel recharging tech and beam rifle recharging tech. The pre-Gryps era attempts seemed to only filter down to a few mobile suits so seemed to still be in the prototype stages whereas after Gryps it became a lot more mainstream for modern MS. Funnels seem t...

Re: The disappearance of E-Packs?

This is what I call into suspicion - I'd like to know what sources listed e-pacs and e-caps for all of these. Mainly because we know the V Gundam's rifle has an e-pac - or, at least, it sure does have a block shaped exactly like one that comes off of it in both the lineart and the MG model, as does...

Re: The disappearance of E-Packs?

I wouldn't quite say that. Going by the mecha profiles, a lot of later MS are listed as having e-caps, not e-packs. For example, the Heavygun and Den'an Gei from F91 are listed as having rifles without e-packs, and randomly clicking through some of the Zanscare profiles shows some MS listed as havin...

Re: The disappearance of E-Packs?

I still think it's highly unlikely due to when funnels first appear with the Qubeley, from Axis, at the very end of the Gryps War. Well before they're around and its tech would have time to be shared, we've already had a decent number of suits that were able to directly recharge their weapons, and a...

Re: The disappearance of E-Packs?

Is it possible that the necessary advancements for the powering of Gryps-era funnels (which recharge on the mobile suit's generator and not from on-board generators like the Elmeth's bits or via e-pacs) led to advanced methods of recharging beam rifles? I highly doubt it. If you go back to the firs...

Re: The disappearance of E-Packs?

Are there any other MS that also directly say their beam weapon's power supply is the MS power plant itself with no e-packs/other things? I have no idea if any other MS are explicitly said to do so in any material like the Marasai manual says it does, but I'd imagine that if a mass production suit ...

Re: What books are you reading?

As a matter of bringing things up to date, I very much enjoyed Ender's Shadow and the rest of the Shadow series ( Shadow of the Hegemon , Shadow Puppets and Shadow of the Giant ), with the middle two books being quite excellent and two of my favorites of everything set in the Ender universe. I then ...

Re: The disappearance of E-Packs?

The theory in question is mentioned in a few official-y places, Mark mentioned in this thread that the HGUC Marasai manual notes that it produces enough energy to recharge the rifle as quickly as it fires, which explains why the Marasai uses a beam rifle with an e-pack, but has no storage on it for ...

-The Dervish - -Hallway- Eckardy floated down the hall from Team 2's ready room back to the hangar, changing his t-shirt as he went and also trying to get the last bit out of a tube of coffee. He had headed to the ready room and managed to quickly wolf down some food, but had expected the rearming a...

Re: Original Role of the Dabude/Dodbay as an EF Land Warship

There seems to be a flaw in the whole theory that the Dabude was originally a Federation machine, which you sorta touched on: It looks nothing like anything else the Feds built. If anything, it reminds me more of the Dopp, the design of which is always attributed to being developed and tested origin...

Re: Railguns in the Universal Century?

While it could probably pierce I-fields, mobile armors like Neue Ziel were so nimble that I doubt a railgun would manage to hit it, given all the interference from Minovsky particles to targeting. Well, I-Fields have no effect on projectiles, so a railgun should be effective against machines withou...

Re: Arbiter's Musings on Gundam Evolve

And I've heard some people claim that the Qubeley pilot is Puru-Two, but I'm pretty sure that's bull. Officially, yes, but it would make sense that Puru-Two would follow Judau to Jupiter. The only problem is that I'm not sure if Puru-Two ever used a Qubeley Mk 2, so I'm not sure where she could hav...

Re: What books are you reading?

After I finished Ender's Game , I then read through Speaker for the Dead , Xenocide , and just finished Children of the Mind . I really enjoyed all three, although Speaker for the Dead seemed to take a bit to really get going, and Children of the Mind felt a bit short (Although that might just be in...

Re: Railguns in the Universal Century?

Very true. Most of my thoughts for it did apply to the early universal century, when beam weapons weren't as common. I mean, look how long it took for Zeon MS to be able to use conventional beam weapons. For the most part you see them using bazookas or machine guns. Even their melee weapons were al...

Re: Railguns in the Universal Century?

The beam bazooka used by Char's Rick Dom isn't a great example, as its large size is largely thought to be due to it having its own power source, since the Rick Dom on its own couldn't power normal beam weapons. Really, there is no need in the Universal Century for railguns. By the time of the Gryps...

Re: Railguns in the Universal Century?

That's basically the case. When we do see the machine guns on the shot lancers in F91 (Which is only like two or three times, IIRC), there is nothing at all special about them. Inspite of being listed as "heavy" machine guns in their profiles, given their size on the shot lancers and whatn...
