I watched its first four episodes... it very good. Never read the novels, but for a sci fi show, it works well so far with the gritty scifi. Not sure if it will reach the heights of the remade Battlestar Galactica or current king Game of Thrones but so far it is the best SyFy show I've seen in years...

I personally like Strong World over Film Z but I do agree Z was a great antagonist and it does feel like this could have been a story arc if Oda wasn't already stressing himself into the grave with more plot line heavy stuff.
