Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk
The thing is, Gaelio doesn't even have to accuse McGillis of anything to screw up his plans. McGillis' plan relies on being the de facto head of three of the Seven Stars -- if Gaelio is known to have survived, then he's the rightful leader of the Bauduin family, and that along torpedos McGillis' pla...

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk
You can see during the final battle of the first season that the attack that disabled the Kimaris missed the cockpit. Or, well, it actually hits the cockpit, but the armor on the cockpit hatch successfully diverts the blow. Screenshots here . My question isn't how Gaelio survived the mecha battle, b...

Re: Magical Girls
So not so much "I think the series is dying" as "I don't like the direction the series is going". Which is fair (you don't have to like where the series is going), but the two aren't really the same thing.

Eh? With Vivid Strike airing now, the third movie (which has been on life support for a few years) given a release date for next summer, and season two of Vivid itself set for sometime in 2017, why would you think that?Henyo wrote:i still think the Nanoha series is on life support now.

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Mecha Thread Mk
Gaelio, theoretically, is more plausible IMO because IIRC unlike Mika against the Graze Ein, Fabulous McGillis didn't directly stab the Kimaris's cockpit, so there's a possibility that he survived. If you watch closely, McGillis actually does stab the Kimaris in the cockpit... but the hit is deflec...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Regarding the comparison between the Gundam's beam rifle and a battleship cannon, I always figured that that was simply a reference to the fact that the beam rifle could one-shot a Zaku with a direct hit, just like a battleship cannon. After all, as far as battlefield tactics are concerned, "ca...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Hm, regarding the ambiguity of weapon power ratings -- whether that's input or output power, etc -- do we ever get a rating for the Dom's beam scatter gun? It occurs to me that that would be a good way to check on that. Since the beam scatter gun is a pre-ecap device that isn't run by an overpowered...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
This seems to be one of those things that's pretty clear from the animation and yet denied by the Japanese publications. Well, no one ever claimed that Gundam's technical information all makes sense. I guess this is one of those times where we just have to write them off as crazy and move on with o...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Yeah, for the most part it seems physically impossible that mobile suit fusion reactors would actually "melt down" or somehow undergo a nuclear explosion. They do seem to react violently when hit by beam weapons, but the Japanese publications normally claim that's just the propellant, fue...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Hey guys. I didn't read the whole thread, so maybe this was addressed already, but can someone explain to me how a fusion reactor could be detonated ? The very idea seems to go against my understanding of physics. This is a quirk of Gundam's fictional physics. The Universal Century timeline uses Mi...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
What's particularly interesting about the claim that the beam spray gun doesn't have an e-cap is that it seems to imply that the GM is capable of transferring not just electrical power to hand-held weapons, but also Minovksy particles. We know that the Gundam can't do this (recall the amusing instan...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Huh, I hadn't seen the claim that the beam spray gun wasn't e-cap based before. That's especially interesting given that the GM has a lower generator output than the Gundam, which supposedly isn't powerful enough to support a proper reactor-driven beam cannon. How do they reconcile that one?

Re: The Official Gundam Build Fighters Try Anime Thread Mk-V
Although I gotta say, the kid's reaction to when the little girl disappeared was hysterical. That made me wonder what they knew about what actually happened during GBF's climax, personally. They clearly knew that it involved out of control plavsky particles, but apparently they didn't know about fo...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
Figured I'd toss in something something I discovered recently. Out of curiosity, I decided to look into how dangerous the holes that mecha occasionally poke in colony walls are. I found a formula (at Atomic Rockets, specifically here ) for determining how long it takes for a compartment to depressur...

Re: The Official Gundam Build Fighters Try Anime Thread Mk-V
How old you think that girl is? Keep in mind that 8 years has pass between GBF and Island War. That's the other thing that's a little squirrely about the whole deal. It's hard to guess the ages of characters in anime, but if I had to, I'd say she's around seven or so. Certainly not any younger than...

Re: Random Gundam Tech Tidbits
The thing that I find really striking about that image is the ZZ's High Mega Cannon, which is both really powerful and really tiny compared to almost everything else. If they can cram a 50 MW beam cannon into a Gundam's head (even amid the camera equipment and the like), then what's the point of hav...

Re: The Official Gundam Build Fighters Try Anime Thread Mk-V
Which makes me think that the Try special might just be a setup for the GBF special. The daughter's visit is in some way a reason for Reji and Aila to vist their old friends again. It was pretty heavily implied in Try that Aila and Reiji are already visiting Sei and China. There's a brief scene whe...

Re: The Official Gundam Build Fighters Try Anime Thread Mk-V
Yeah, I wasn't particularly impressed. The first half was the same boring harem shenanigans from the series, which wasn't interesting then and isn't interesting now. The second half is spamming overpowered attacks and persevering through the power of plot armor. The epilogue raised more questions th...

Re: Is the Gundam fins optimized for communication?
Visually identifying commanders in a combat zone is usually a bad idea -- it basically puts a giant "shoot me first" sign on them. This is why soldiers don't salute officers in combat zones, among other things.

Re: Is the Gundam fins optimized for communication?
The antennas we're talking about are supposed to be communication antennas, so sensor range isn't part of the equation. Sensor range is the distance at which you're able to spot targets; communication range is the distance at which you can send and receive transmissions.
