Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

Gosh, I just read the first 4 volumes of the manga and the cutoff point for the anime was... so much better than what we got. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying here, it's all the same but it's paced better and tonally it's not such a jumbled mess. Cornelius's pleas resonate as the intended message...

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Re: 0096 Anime Thread Mk I

What a lovely sentiment. I confess that I indeed don't hold that kind of certainty. At least, not of the variety that should implicitly dismiss and condescend to the prospective experiences of the young fans that this series may court as being incorrect and undesirable. Children are not stupid but t...

Re: Try TV special annnounced for August

I don't disagree but I also don't think Try was bad enough to sink further installments. While an ambitious but clumsily constructed sequel like SEED Destiny is hard to follow up on, the fact that Try lacked any kind of external conflict to support the tournament formula actually means that the sett...

Re: Try TV special annnounced for August

Oh, I definitely knew about the original twitter updates. Don't get me wrong. But something like a press release with a due date is a tiny bit different and I was trying to be careful about drawing a distinction. That kind of thing shows that corporate has committed to full production. And as far as...

Re: Try TV special annnounced for August

Considering that we're starting this off without verified sources, I had to do a search to learn anything more about this other than the names of the robots. There's not much but for anybody that's curious, it's definitely a thing that's happening. I guess this is what Studio 3 will be up to during ...

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Re: 0096 Anime Thread Mk I

The thing about resources has nothing to do with money in this case, it's that Studio 1 is already extremely busy. They've been animating Thunderbolt and have evidently been working on a Reconguista movie as well. I don't think they have the time to coordinate between three major projects at once. I...

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

@Gelgoog Jager: I already said I'm not interested in continuing but I'll admit freely that if the part about that being a civilian habitat is true (which I find highly questionable when that thing is facing the sun and is surrounded by an obscene number of solar panels) then you've at least got a p...

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Re: 0096 Anime Thread Mk I

I think it's unrealistic to expect new material at this point. If I'm not mistaking on this matter either, what I recall hearing is that anime studios have to bid on network airtime like billboard advertisements. If Brave Beats was cancelled then they had a contract to fulfill which means that this ...

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk

Ein dying that much earlier makes all the sense in the world and explains why such a major force could have had so little to do with the middle part of the series. CONJECTURE TIME: I wonder then if Carta were originally intended to be hooked up to Alaya-Vijnana. That too would be a perfect explanati...

Re: The Official Gundam Unicorn Re: 0096 Anime Thread Mk I

Another cut to the beginning of the next episode. This one was MUCH smoother. Anyway, how many episodes was the series that this replaced? If I'm remembering it correctly, I think it was 22? At the rate this is going, I estimate that this will end up having that number of episodes.

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

You're obviously highly invested in extended media and I truly respect that commitment. Because of this, I'm also sorry to say that I have to dismiss the continuation of this thought experiment as I find the internal logic of a video game to be irrelevant to the point I was hoping to make. What I'm ...

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

If we go by what could happen in Gihren's Greed, the perfect victory for Zeon actually seemed like the best possible outcome, showing that even the EF characters got good endings, such as Shiro (with both legs) and Aina ending together, as well as Kai & Miharu, Bright & Mirai, etc. All true but let...

Re: Say Mecha Talk, Lets Have a Brave Series Topic!

Also in terms of the Ultra/Tsuburaya references, the first episode was an homage to how Jumborg Ace got his powers. Anyway, I grew up on that corny old Ruby Spears Mega Man cartoon and Fighbird kinda gave me the same vibe. Well, at least in the sense that it resembled the Mega Man show that I though...

Re: Say Mecha Talk, Lets Have a Brave Series Topic!

It's nothing special but I liked Fighbird. It reminded me of a Saturday morning cartoon that I could have grown up with. There's no arguing that it's on the lower end but it was a step HUGE forward from the Exkaiser formula. It's a fun superhero show. Speaking of which... Has anybody here seen Dagwo...

Re: Right Stuf announces [Gundam Release Updates 2016]

Good grief. So then why didn't we get the coveted Animax dub for ZZ? Anyway, this is great news! Build Fighters is a children's show so this will only increase its accessibility. Great choice on Sunrise's part. I hope they do the same for AGE. I've been morbidly curious about that dub for years now....

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

Uh, lets just stop that process of discussion while we still can. I feel like we are coming dangerously close to trying to sort out worldly knowledge from observational preconception in a way that will be flattering to nobody. In short: Don't go there, girlfriend.

Re: The Official Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans Anime Thread Mk

Earlier in the thread, I mentioned that they were at the forefront of the season but I don't think the characters arcs really paid off that much either. I do think that the finale was competent, though. Episode 24 really had me worried but the season did conclude tidily. But I also feel like this sh...

Re: Gundam Wing GOL/FT/MG new stuff THREAD

This mangas ending is going to be super rushed. I don't see this as much different from how the TV series ended :p But then again, I wouldn't put it past Sumizawa to somehow mess it up. Especially if he wasn't just being sarcastic about how burned out he became during Frozen Teardrop. It makes me n...

Re: Cucuruz Doan's Island: The Origin

It's worth noting that despite being rather infamous on either side of the Pacific, Doan's Island is still so well loved in Japan that BONES used it as the basis for Eureka's personal origin story! However, I can also understand Tomino being dissatisfied with the episode if that were indeed the shor...

Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

To be honest, I'm not really concerned with that? I mean, I'm just drawing a humorous contrast about how well such a thing could be made to fit the setting. As far as controversy, we've already seen religious extremism as an overt theme ( and with direct commentary on the real world) in Gundam 00, s...
