Re: The Official Gundam Thunderbolt Anime Thread Mk I

He's basically a sociopath (at the very least, he's a nihilist.) Without spoiling anything you won't find early in the first volume, he sees the lie that is civilized society. Not only can you get away with killing, you can be applauded and awarded for it - humanity hasn't evolved past violence, an...

Re: Muv Luv *There will be spoilers*

The Kickstarter is now up. They're in its final stretch this week. If they can raise $100k more, they'll be releasing a hardcover codex with lore info. I've already put in $200. TWO HUNDRED DOLLARYDOOS?! . To be honest, I'm not that surprised. There are people on /m/ that pledged $1,000 or even more.

Re: Valkyrization

Yeah, I've seen those ones before. They are quite good. I like the effort and detail that was put into them. Still, they might benefit from another round of refinement. But damn, you have to admire the work. My main gripe with them is the artist doing them in the stylized Frontier aesthetic, rather...

Re: So just how many colonies did Zeon gas, anyway?

And they were both, from a practical perspective, close enough to Earth for colony drops That's not a determining factor. In The Origin, Island Iffish is not shot straight to Earth, but rather sent towards lunar orbit in order to use the Moon's gravity and gain a much greater terminal velocity duri...

Re: So just how many colonies did Zeon gas, anyway?

Actually, the status of the other Sides becomes more confusing the more you think about it. The First Gundam animation indicated that Sides 1, 2, 4, and 5 were completely destroyed - they're crossed off with big X's in the opening narration of one episode, and during the attack on Solomon we're tol...

Re: The Official Gundam The Origin Mecha Thread Mk I

Wow, those Prototype Goufs look awesome! Are they gonna be in The Origin anime? Doesn't seem like it. The HG manual ( 01 / 02 / 03 ) mentions that the existence of the Prototype Gouf was discovered (hence the name) as part of a research project undertaken by Anaheim Electronics in U.C.0082 to learn...

Yes, absolutely. You could almost say it's one of Yas' trademarks. One of his first works for TV was Kun-Kun, a cute series about prehistoric kids.

Re: Railguns or Coilguns in SEED's Linear Tanks?

The levitation distance doesn't have to be huge. It could be very minuscule, in the millimeters, or less. Yes, that's true. But the smaller the distance, the larger the air friction between the round and barrel, negating one of the main advantages of using coils rather than rails for propulsion. Fr...

Re: Railguns or Coilguns in SEED's Linear Tanks?

Well that's a really interesting design. If that sabot is in active contact with the linear accelerators and gets released with the munitions then it's a railgun. If it's levitated then it's a coil gun. I'd say that the sabot is in physical contact with the barrel. Going by the illustration, the mu...

Re: Railguns or Coilguns in SEED's Linear Tanks?

They're all mass drivers, but the railgun sticks a sabot on a rail that's driven by a linear accelerator, while in a coil gun there's no rail, and the linear accelerator acts directly on the munitions. That's where my doubt comes from, originally. In Yamane's illustration of the Linear Tank , you'l...

"Heavy Return Storm Launch" is quite Engrishy. Even for Gundam's standards. Thanks for your reply, Mark. Funny that we haven't seen more of this capsule elsewhere. Ironically, it's pictured right there in the image at the top of the page you linked to. -- Mark Not much "irony" as it being used as th...

Railguns or Coilguns in SEED's Linear Tanks?

While we all know that Gundam Wiki isn't the most reliable of sources, there is a discrepancy about the "conventional" weaponry used in the Cosmic Era. The Earth Alliance's Linear Tanks, Linear Artillery, space fighter series and the Archangel's Valiant guns are described there as linear guns (リニアガン...

Re: What is the final word on Cosmic Era beam technology?

Though on the other side of the argument I don't believe their much that says standard beam weapons are different from the Ion Cannon aside from not being directly labeled as Ion Weapons. The problem with this discussion is that, despite SEED being promoted as "21st Century's Mobile Suit Gundam " a...

The Musai's 'HRSL'?

I found this image in a post on Anaheim Journal (blog that translates mecha data books material to English) about the Musai series. The thing that is attached to the Musai's aft is, apparently, an "HRSL". Other than a couple of passing mentions around here, I can't find any information about it, oth...

Re: Can you move main-belt asteroids to the Earth sphere?

the objective is to apply as little energy as possible to "nudge" the rock out of its Solar orbit toward Earth, and then correct it into a stable orbit at a LaGrange point when it gets close enough. It would actually require at least two maneuvers/burns (Hohmann transfer): one to take the asteroid ...

Can you move main-belt asteroids to the Earth sphere?

One of the most important points of the Gundam franchise in general is its use of asteroids for raw materials and military bases. However, most of the asteroids seen are pretty large objects, apparently brought from the main asteroid belt. 3 Juno (Luna II) is 233 km wide and has a mass of 267 quadri...
